Chapter 190 - One Honest Question

The unsigned documents remained in Lucien's study. Neither of them mentioned them the next morning; they shared breakfast as they always did. They discussed the weather, laughed when Mrs Carter insisted Lucien had still not learnt the proper way to make coffee, and left for work together. It was an ordinary day; neither of them wanted the most important conversation of their lives to happen between phone calls and meetings.

That evening, they returned home just before sunset. The sky outside the living room windows glowed with warm shades of orange and gold.

Lucien loosened his tie as he entered the house. "It feels strange to finish work before dark."

Seraphina smiled while setting her bag on the console table. "I was beginning to think you had forgotten offices were allowed to close."

"I am learning." He said.

"You deserve some credit." She whispered.

"I will accept that." Mrs. Carter appeared in the kitchen carrying her apron. "Dinner is ready whenever you are."
