Fighting was easier than building.
I hadn't expected that, not consciously, but the weeks after Selara confirmed it thoroughly. The battle had been terrible and clarifying, enormous in scale, devastating in cost, but fundamentally legible. There was an enemy and a goal and the thing you were doing was move toward the goal and stop the enemy. The architecture of it, however brutal, was straightforward.
Building something was different.
