Chapter 125 - Chapter One Hundred and Twenty-Five

During break at Diamond Snow Secondary School, a messenger summoned Celine to the principal's office. Celine, her new limited edition Chanel rucksack slung casually over one shoulder, glided gracefully down the plush hallway. The polished marble floor gleamed under the soft glow of recessed lighting, and expensive paintings adorned the walls, adding a touch of elegance to her already sophisticated stride.

Reaching the office door, Celine received a warm smile from the principal as she entered. A few other students, impeccably dressed in their smart uniforms and sporting designer rucksacks, were already there. Unlike Celine's confident stride, they chatted in hushed tones, a hint of seriousness flickering on their faces.

The principal, looking elegant in her attire, politely excused the other students. 'Thanks for coming, everyone. I'll see you all shortly for the meeting.' The students, with a curt nod towards Celine, bowed respectfully to the principal and filed out, leaving Celine alone with the principal.

Celine's gaze drifted to the opposite wall, where a collection of pictures hung neatly arranged. Some were of her siblings, her cousin Michael, and other successful graduates. Important government officials and other distinguished figures associated with the school were also included. The meticulous arrangement of these portraits added a sense of history and prestige to the office, creating an environment that exuded both warmth and a welcoming ambiance.

The tasteful furnishings—plush armchairs in jewel tones and a coffee table adorned with a crystal vase overflowing with fresh orchids—further emphasised the inviting yet prestigious atmosphere, making it a place that was not only aesthetically pleasing but also comfortable and airy.

The principal gestured towards a plush armchair in jewel tones. 'Please, Miss Celine, have a seat. While I...' Her voice trailed off as her smile faltered, replaced by a faint grimace that flickered across her face. A momentary crease appeared between her brows, and her hand, which had been gesturing towards the armchair, darted to her stomach for a brief moment. A subtle hitch in her breath escaped her lips.

Without finishing her sentence, the principal rose abruptly from her chair. Her movements were uncharacteristically hurried, her usual elegance momentarily forgotten. 'Excuse me just a moment, Miss Celine,' she said, her voice strained.

Celine watched in surprise as the principal practically sprinted towards the restroom, the polished oak door clicking shut behind her with a soft thud. A hint of curiosity flickered in Celine's eyes as she settled into the plush armchair.

While the principal briefly excused herself to use the restroom, the principal's assistant, a woman with a kind smile and neatly tied hair in a bun, entered the office. She wore a crisp uniform that marked her as a school employee. Her eyes darted between Celine, regal in the plush armchair, and the empty chair behind the desk. A flicker of concern crossed her features for a brief moment before she offered a warm smile.

The assistant carried a tray laden with crystal glasses brimming with ruby red juice and a colourful assortment of sliced fruits. The sweet, fresh scent of the fruit wafted into the room, momentarily distracting Celine.

'The principal asked me to bring these refreshments while you wait,' the assistant explained, her voice warm and professional. She placed the tray carefully on the coffee table with a soft clink and gave Celine a small, polite smile.

Celine offered a curt nod in thanks, her gaze fixed on the vibrant display of fruit. The assistant lingered for a beat longer than usual, perhaps sensing the unspoken tension in the air. However, she offered no further comment and simply turned to leave, her footsteps echoing softly on the polished marble floor.

Gracefully, Celine crossed her long legs, and she slowly reached out and took a glass of juice. It felt cool and refreshing in her hand. The silence stretched, punctuated only by the gentle clinking of ice against the glass as Celine swirled the ruby liquid. Her brow furrowed in thought as she contemplated the principal's sudden need for the restroom and why she had summoned her to her office. Just then, the principal returned, her elegant steps carrying her back into the office, a warm smile still gracing her face.

'Principal, may I enquire about the reason for this summon?' Celine asked, her voice laced with polite curiosity.

'Just wanted to check up on how you're doing,' the principal replied with a smile.

'I'm doing very well,' Celine responded.

The principal smiled appreciatively. 'I was thinking that perhaps there might be something you need. As a transfer student from a prestigious American school with outstanding grades, you might still be adjusting.'

'Still adjusting?' Celine let out a mock laugh, raising an eyebrow in disbelief. 'How can someone who is still adjusting have organised a charity event that was graced by many,' she gestured with an open hand as if showcasing a grand spectacle, 'and also participated fully in the school's fashion week?' She folded her arms, her expression softening slightly. 'Principal, don't worry.' She leaned forward with a reassuring smile. 'You're doing an excellent job as the head of this school. I'm certain no one would dream of replacing you.' Celine gave a confident nod. 'You'll retire at the right time,' she added, cutting to the chase with a firm tone.

The principal cheeks flushed slightly, reaching for her black-rimmed glasses and putting them on, as if to shield her face from the discomfort.

'And in the upcoming election, you have my full support. I'll address this during tomorrow's Student Union meeting,' Celine declared.

The principal smiled and, after a moment of silence, asked, 'Speaking of the Student Union, could my daughter perhaps join?'

Celine's posture shifted. 'While Prince serves as the president of the Student Union, I still hold the authority to answer your question. I assume you understand what it means to be part of Diamond Snow Student Union?'

The principal smiled awkwardly and remained silent. It seemed as though she was anticipating Celine to reiterate the significance of joining the prestigious Student Union in this esteemed school.

'Since you want to hear it from me, I'll explain. As you know, the Student Union of this school consists of students from influential backgrounds...' Celine began.

'I am aware of that, Miss Celine,' the principal interrupted, a touch of desperation in her voice. 'I understand that, given the requirements, my daughter is not eligible to join the Student Union. However, I truly wish for her to join because it would provide her with the opportunity to interact with the cream of the crop from wealthy families,' the principal expressed.

Celine leaned forward, her gaze unwavering. 'Your daughter is undoubtedly intelligent and comes from a wealthy family. Nevertheless, she still does not meet the criteria for Student Union membership. Only the crème de la crème are allowed to join. I'm sorry, but I cannot grant your request,' Celine firmly responded.

Just then, a knock on the door interrupted them. A female teacher entered, handed the principal a document, and quickly left.

'If you were to ask me about the progress here, I wouldn't say that it is faster than the curriculum overseas. Everything here seems to be on par with education abroad,' Celine remarked, slowly rising to her feet. 'I should be going. I have books to review.'

The principal nodded, a hint of disappointment lingering in her eyes, and escorted Celine to the door. As Celine made her way back to the class, she overheard a group of students engaged in a discussion about Michael, Felix, Audrey, Jessica, and Chioma. Choosing to ignore their conversation, she entered the classroom with a composed demeanour.
