Author's Note: Ok this might be the most wildest chapter written but there is an idea behind it which will come into a future arc.
Grey's POV
The training for the day had gone quite well. Larvitar had initially struggled to adapt to the intensity of the training, which wasn't particularly surprising considering the difference between what it had been doing in the ruins and the structured training Grey's team went through every day. However, Fraxure had plenty of experience training the others by now and quickly helped Larvitar adjust to the pace.
Larvitar itself seemed to understand something important from the experience. Training every day was the key to becoming stronger. If it wanted to become a strong Pokémon and eventually reach the level of the Pokémon it had watched fighting inside the ruins, it couldn't afford to be lazy.
Apparently, Larvitar had joined the team because it wanted to escape the ruins and become stronger. At least, that was what Grey understood from Exeggutor, who had used telepathy to communicate Larvitar's intentions to him.
The rest of the team had also managed to have a productive training session, with the exception of Persian and Charmeleon. Somehow, those two had developed a rivalry similar to the one Exeggutor and Cloyster had going on.
Grey wasn't entirely sure how it had happened, but apparently Charmeleon had managed to burn Persian's fur during their training. Persian had responded by using Water Pulse and then Thunderbolt to fry the lizard in retaliation.
Grey could only stare at the two of them.
"Well, all ends well, I suppose."
At least nobody had actually been seriously injured.
Grey eventually ended the training for the day and decided to get some rest. Tomorrow was going to be another important day, and he wanted to be prepared for it.
Third Person POV
The next day arrived, and it was pretty chill.
Well, as chill as a day involving a battle against a Frontier Brain could be.
Brandon was scheduled to return today, but before leaving Heart Village, he had agreed to have a quick one-versus-one battle with Grey. It wasn't going to be an official Frontier challenge or anything particularly serious, but Grey still wanted to see how his Pokémon would perform against someone of Brandon's level.
Currently, both sides were standing on an open patch of grass outside the village, ready to battle it out. A referee had also been brought by Brandon from his Battle Pyramid to oversee the match.
Both trainers took their positions.
The referee checked that everything was ready before finally signalling for the battle to begin.
On the right side of the field, Grey released Fraxure.
On the left side, Brandon released Regirock.
Grey immediately decided on his opening move.
"Fraxure, use Dragon Dance."
Fraxure prepared to begin the move.
But something strange happened.
Regirock slowly started walking forward.
Brandon initially thought it was simply moving toward Fraxure, but after a few steps he realised that wasn't the case.
Regirock was walking toward Grey.
"Regirock?"
Brandon immediately tried to give it a command, but Regirock didn't respond.
The Legendary Pokémon continued walking.
It was almost as if something had possessed Regirock.
Fraxure immediately became alert and prepared itself to attack. However, Regirock didn't make any attempt to attack Grey. Instead, it simply continued walking until it was looking directly at him.
Grey was confused.
Regirock then spoke.
"Un... un... UNNNNN!"
The strange cry echoed across the open field.
At the same time, the symbols across Regirock's body began glowing intensely.
Grey stared at the glowing symbols, confused about what was happening.
Then he looked directly into them.
Everything changed.
Grey was no longer standing in the open grass.
He suddenly found himself somewhere completely different.
It looked like some kind of ancient temple.
Grey looked around in confusion, trying to understand what the hell was going on. The surroundings were completely different from the battlefield he had been standing on only moments ago.
Then he felt a chill run down his spine.
Grey slowly turned around.
A giant throne stood before him.
And sitting upon it was a Pokémon that dwarfed Grey by a massive margin.
It was enormous.
Its body was primarily white, with yellow in the centre, while numerous symbols resembling eyes covered its body. Green markings extended across its legs, and the Pokémon stared down at Grey with an expression that sent fear through him.
Grey's eyes widened.
He wanted to scream.
He desperately wanted to scream.
But no sound came out.
His body refused to respond.
The Pokémon sitting upon the throne looked at him menacingly.
Grey knew that Pokémon.
There was no mistaking it.
His lips moved weakly.
"Regigigas..."
Back in the open grass outside Heart Village, Grey's body suddenly went limp.
He fainted.
Brandon immediately rushed toward him from the other side of the field.
"What the hell happened?"
He looked toward Regirock, almost as if expecting the Legendary Pokémon to explain what had just happened.
Regirock itself looked confused.
For a brief moment, it seemed to have lost rational control over its own body. Something had taken over its actions when it saw Grey, and somehow it had placed him under some kind of hypnosis.
Brandon wasn't sure what to make of it.
Fraxure was even more confused.
The Pokémon stared at Regirock, unsure whether it should attack it for what had just happened or simply stay back.
Something inside Fraxure's gut was telling it not to attack.
So it stopped.
For the moment, nobody knew what had just happened to Grey.

Grey slowly opened his eyes and realised he was lying in a bed inside one of the rooms at the Pokémon Center. His body felt a little weak, and for a moment he simply stared at the ceiling, trying to remember what had happened.
Maybe he had fainted.
That would explain why he was here.
But Grey clearly remembered what he had seen.
Regigigas.
He couldn't simply dismiss that as some random hallucination. He had seen the Pokémon sitting on that giant throne, staring directly at him. The memory was still fresh in his mind.
The door opened, and Nurse Joy entered the room. The moment she noticed that Grey was awake, she walked over to check on him before going to bring the others.
A few moments later, Brandon and Steven entered the room.
Grey immediately looked toward Brandon.
"What the heck was that? And why did your Pokémon do that to me?"
Brandon had already been thinking about the same question. He told Grey that he had spoken with Regirock after what happened and had tried to figure out why it had suddenly behaved that way.
Apparently, there was some kind of code built into Regirock's programming that had been triggered the moment it saw Grey.
Grey stared at Brandon.
"A code?"
Brandon nodded.
During the battle against Golurk, Regirock hadn't really seen Grey properly. Its attention had been focused almost entirely on the gigantic Golurk that had been rampaging through the ruins. It had been fighting alongside Brandon and Steven, and Grey had only entered the situation in the middle of everything.
This time, however, Regirock had gotten a proper look at Grey.
And that had somehow triggered the code.
Grey was confused.
"What code? And why would it trigger just because it saw me?"
Brandon admitted that he wasn't sure.
Regirock itself was completely fine now and wasn't showing any strange behaviour. Whatever had happened appeared to have been a one-time code or some kind of programmed response that had been installed into Regirock when it was originally created.
Grey didn't understand much of what Brandon was saying.
But there was one thing he did understand.
The creator of Regirock.
Regigigas.
It was said that Regigigas had created the Regis, meaning that if some kind of code had been installed into Regirock when it was created, then Regigigas was likely responsible for it.
And somehow, that code had been designed to make Regirock hypnotise Grey and force him to see Regigigas.
But why?
That was the real question.
Why Grey?
Why had Regigigas, or whoever had created the code, wanted Grey to see it?
And why the hell had something like that been programmed into Regirock in the first place?
Grey had no answers.
He could only think about what he had seen inside that strange vision. There were too many questions and nowhere near enough information to answer even one of them.
For now, he decided it was better to rest.
Brandon also told him that they wouldn't be able to have their planned battle anymore. He had to leave today, and after what had happened, he didn't think Grey should be worrying about a battle anyway.
"I'm sorry about what happened," Brandon told him. "You should just rest for now."
Grey nodded.
Before Brandon left, he did ask one more question.
"What exactly did Regirock do to you that made you faint?"
Grey hesitated before answering.
"I think it hypnotised me."
Brandon raised an eyebrow.
"To do what?"
Grey looked toward him.
"To make me see Regigigas."
That immediately surprised Brandon.
He had expected Grey to describe some kind of strange vision, but the fact that Grey knew exactly what Pokémon he had seen made things much more interesting.
"You saw Regigigas?"
Grey nodded.
Brandon became thoughtful.
He clearly had some theories about why the code might have triggered, but looking at Grey lying in the bed, he decided it was probably better not to overload the poor kid's head with even more questions right now.
Whatever had happened, Grey needed rest.
Grey also felt his eyes becoming heavy again. The exhaustion from the strange incident was catching up with him, and before long, he fell asleep once more.
For now, the questions surrounding Regirock, the mysterious code and Regigigas would have to wait.

There, that's the chapter. I did think about renewing the fight and having Brandon use another Pokémon, but I thought I would save that for the future.
Yes, remember when I asked this question? The answer is Regigigas. That will be the Legendary bonded to Grey. And if you guys are wondering where the code or Regirock came from, why the hell Regigigas did that, and all that, those are things for a future arc that will come much later. Grey isn't ready for that yet, but I will still spoil something to give you guys a hint.
There is a certain game with a certain boss that makes beating Cynthia look easy. There is going to be an arc based around that game.
As for why Regigigas and not another Legendary, to be frank, I didn't want to go with a Legendary that most people would expect or one that is extremely popular, like Mewtwo, Rayquaza, or Giratina.
Second, most of these Legendaries are kind of box-art Legendaries, so they already have a bond with the existing protagonists or will eventually have one. And yes, every protagonist from every game and manga exists in this universe. Some have already started their journeys, while others have yet to begin.
For example, the three Legendary birds kind of mirror Red, Blue, and Green. Of course, Green does catch all three in the manga, but that's secondary, and Red has a bond with Mewtwo. Ash also has his own connection with Mewtwo in the anime.
The Weather Trio have bonds with Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, but so do the Soul Dew twins.
While yes, in the manga, Diamond kind of catches Regigigas, that was more of a plot-armor pull and happened almost by accident, with Regigigas deciding to save Sinnoh. Because of that, I am going to write the Legendaries more similarly to how they are portrayed in the manga rather than the games.
Meaning, yes, their base stats still exist, but Legendaries kind of transcend base stats and govern a specific task that they are the Legendary of.
Let's say Dialga is the Legendary we are talking about. It can govern time, and I mean literally. It can hold people in time, time-skip, slow time, or even reverse time during a battle in this fic.
As for Regigigas, in the manga, it is a Pokémon that fought all three of Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina. While it didn't exactly win, the fact that it was able to fight all three is a testament to its strength.
Yes, Slow Start will exist, but there are ways around it. The way I am going to write Slow Start is that Regigigas needs time to gather its power back because it has been in slumber for so long. It essentially needs time to charge itself back up.
Second, in terms of pure physical power, Regigigas is the strongest. Period. Ignoring Arceus, of course. Base stats won't come into the picture for this fact because it is said to be capable of towing continents and all that. I am using the lore-accurate versions of these Legendaries.
Again, Grey won't catch Regigigas. It will be more like his bonded Legendary that helps him out in certain situations or something along those lines, but that is a plot point for way into the future, definitely only after the Kanto arc.
