The cliffside overlooking Route 6 felt like quiet heated. The wind, carrying the sharp scent of the ocean from Vermilion, whipped between the two trainers, but neither blinked.
Blue stood with a relaxed posture that didn't match the intensity in his eyes.He looked at Grey with a tense expression.
Grey, on the other hand, was calculating. He knew the history of the boy in front of him. Whether it was the game, the anime, or the manga, Blue was a wall that many trainers broke themselves against.
Third Person POV
With Axew visibly panting from his brutal exchange with Charmeleon, Blue didn't give Grey a second to breathe. He had seen the power of the foreign dragon-type and decided to use to his most tactical pokemon.
"You've got a rare one there," Blue said, his hand already on his second Pokéball. "But it isnt going to be that easy. Kadabra, use Teleport and Confusion at close range!"
In a flash of white light, the psychic-type appeared. It didn't wait for a formal start. With a sharp crack of displaced air, Kadabra vanished and reappeared directly in front of Axew.
"Take it!" Grey shouted, his voice gravelly from the dust. "Then fire a cross Night Slash!"
The mental wave hit Axew like a physical sledgehammer, trying to pin him to the dirt. The dragon's knees buckled, but he snarled, dark energy bleeding from his claws as he fought through the psychic pressure. He raised his arms in a jagged "X" and swung.
Kadabra tried to teleport away, but the dark-type energy seemed to act like a vacuum, dragging the psychic type a bit. The slash caught Kadabra across the chest. The psychic-type screeched, skidding back across the cliffside, its silver spoon shaking after the impact as it had used it to try to stop the momentum a bit which didnt work. Blue's eyes narrowed. He noticed the delay; the "foul" dark energy was lingering on Kadabra's skin, slowing its reaction time.
"That Night Slash is a nuisance," Blue muttered. "Let's remove that move itseld. Kadabra, Disable!"
A pulse of restrictive, violet light shot from Kadabra's spoon. Axew's claws twitched, the dark energy flickering out. The move was locked.
Grey didn't let the setback stop his momentum. "Dragon Dance!"
While Kadabra regained its focus, Axew began the rhythmic dance. A blue aura flared around his bruised limbs, stacking a second layer of speed and raw physical power.
"Teleport!" Blue yelled.
Kadabra began a strong assault, flickering in and out of existence. Each time it manifested, it sent a concussive burst of Confusion at Axew, it was trying a hit and run tactic.
"Dragon Rage bursts! Sweep the area!" Grey commanded.
Axew began spinning, firing small, concentrated spheres of blue flame in every direction.
It was a desperate attempt to force Kadabra out of its teleportation loop. One burst clipped Kadabra's shoulder, forcing it to manifest. Blue saw the opening as Axew slowed from the spin. "Now! Confusion!"
Kadabra appeared directly in front of Axew. Driven by instinct and the adrenaline of the dance, Axew used Strength to brace his body against the psychic grip, lunging through the confusion attack and landing a massive cross-slash with his hands.
The impact was heavy but The Confusion wave finally overpowered Axew, sending the dragon flying backward into the dirt. He was out.
Grey withdrew Axew, looking at the Pokéball with a silent thank you. He needed a way to bridge the distance without getting caught in a psychic loop.
Exeggcute was an option, but a psychic-on-psychic duel was too risky against Blue. He needed to try something different.
"Come on out, Shellder!"
The massive shellder appeared with a heavy thud. Blue immediately raised his Pokédex, recording the data on the unusually large specimen. "Gramps might actually want this... I've never seen a Shellder this size. Where did you find a specimen this big ?"
Grey didn't answer. "Shellder, Spikes! Asap!"
Shellder clamped his shell shut and then burst it open, scattering a layer of spikes across the battlefield.
Grey noticed Kadabra remained hovering an inch off the dirt. Magic Guard, Grey realized.
The spikes wouldn't touch him, but they could be a long term idea for whatever would come next.
Blue smirked. "A wasted turn, Kadabra's Magic Guard can render it useless though I have to say I never thought that new TM would come in this handy. Kadabra, teleport in close—Thunder Punch!"
Grey felt a jolt of recognition. Blue had taught his Kadabra an elemental punch specifically Thunder Punch "Counter Shield: Ice!"
As Kadabra manifested with electricity crackling around its fist, Shellder began to spin at a high velocity.
A vortex of Icy Wind erupted from the seams of his shell, creating a tornado of freezing air. The Thunder Punch hit the spinning barrier and was deflected upward, the electrical discharge grounding harmlessly into the mist.
"What in the...?" Blue's tactical calm slipped.
"Icicle Spear on top of it!" Grey ordered.
While still spinning in the Counter Shield, Shellder began firing shards of ice. Because of the rotation, the spears were launched in an omnidirectional barrage, that hit the entire area. Kadabra, caught in the target of the attack and was pelted repeatedly.
"Teleport!" Blue yelled in a panic.
Kadabra flickered away, appearing near the cliff's edge. Blue was silent, his mind racing. He realized the Thunder Punch was a dud. "Fine. If we can't hit up close we fight at a distance. Confusion! Grab the shell and stop the spin!"
Kadabra's eyes glowed with terrifying intensity. It reached out with a mental grip. Shellder tried to initiate another Counter Shield, but the psychic force clamped down on his shell like a giant vice. The spinning slowed, the ice vortex dying down as Kadabra used its mental capacity to halt the rotation.
Grey was shocked. He'd never seen a Pokémon physically stop the centrifugal force through sheer mental pressure. Blue was using Kadabra's telekinetic abilities to treat Shellder like a spinning top he wanted to stop.
"Toss him!" Blue commanded.
Kadabra flicked its spoon, and Shellder was hurled through the air, slamming into a jagged rock formation.
"Now, the finisher! Teleport into Thunder Punch while he's disoriented!"
Kadabra flickered, appearing above the fallen Shellder.
"Withdraw!" Grey shouted.
Shellder pulled back into his shell an instant before the punch landed. The electrical shock dealt massive damage, but the armored casing took the brunt of the impact.
"Point-blank Icy Wind! Now!"
Shellder popped his shell open and exhaled a freezing gale. Kadabra tried to teleport, but the fatigue from the jumps of teleport and the mental strain of trying to stop shellder finally hit . It tried to block the wind with its spoons, but the cold was absolute.
"Turn it into an Aurora Beam!"
Shellder focused the wind, his internal energy refracting into a concentrated, rainbow-colored lance of light. At this range, the beam overpowered Kadabra's defense, blasting it backward into the layer of Spikes Shellder had set up earlier. The jagged shards tore into Kadabra's back, and it fell limp.
While Magic guard does prevent spike damage it cant do much if rather than a chip damage mechanism ,the very spikes was used to injure after making a pokemon slam into it .
Blue withdrew Kadabra, his face unreadable. He looked at the Pokéball, then at Grey. "I didn't think there were many trainers who could force me onto the back foot besides Red. You're efficient. But my ace doesn't care about your shields. Scyther, come out!"
The Bug-type materialized with a predatory shriek, hovering safely above the spikes due to its flying typing , Grey knew he had to keep moving. "Stay offensive, Shellder! Icicle Spear!"
"Double Team," Blue said calmly.
A dozen Scythers appeared. Shellder fired his spears, but they passed through illusions.
"Agility into Night Slash!"
The real Scyther was a blur. It bypassed Shellder's attempt at a Counter Shield entirely, its blade glowing with dark energy as it delivered a surgical strike to the hinge of Shellder's shell. Shellder skidded across the dirt.
Grey realises going in the back foot here might not work as that scyther's speed is almost as fast as kadabra teleporting but it hits its moves faster and is a tempo faster than shellder can use counter shield , He guessed he would have to go on the offensive
Grey yelled " Counter shield ice offensive version"
Shellder obeys the command by launcing a water gun in backward direction to launch itself at scyther then it starts spining with icy wind and tries hitting scyther
"That move can be used offensively as well?" Blue's mind raced.
He didn't need to be told how devastating the Counter Shield was at close range; he could see the raw power in the rotation. If Scyther got caught in that freezing vortex, the match would head to a dangerous territory. Acting on pure tactical instinct, he abandoned the close-quarters approach. "Scyther, back off! Pelt it with Air Slashes!"
The mantis-like Pokémon beat its wings furiously, narrowly escaping the flying Shellder's trajectory. As it retreated, Scyther launched a barrage of pressurized blades of air. The spinning Shellder, however, was a moving fortress; the icy winds of the shield deflected the Air Slashes as if they were nothing.
Grey saw the gap and pressed the advantage. "Icicle Spear while spinning! Let it fly!"
Shellder complied, releasing a storm of ice shards that spiraled out in every direction. The rotational force gave the spears an unpredictable, jagged flight path. Despite Scyther's incredible speed and its desperate attempts to weave through the barrage, the sheer volume of projectiles was too much. Several spears struck home, the super-effective ice biting deep into Scyther's wings and carapace.
The rotation finally slowed as Shellder's momentum ran out. Blue's eyes sharpened he had been waiting for this exact seond of vulnerability.
"Agility into Night Slash! Now!"
The moment Shellder stopped spinning, Scyther vanished in a blur of speed. Before Shellder could even attempt to restart the rotation, the bug-type was already there. A blade glowing with dark energy slammed into the stationary shell at point-blank range. Shellder tried to exhale a last-ditch Icy Wind, but the attack was paltry and weak compared to the force of the impact. The sheer pain of the Night Slash was the final blow; Shellder's eyes rolled back as it succumbed to its injuries, finally defeated.
Grey withdraws shellder and thinks a bit as to what to use for a third pokemon , meowth wouldnt work that well as scyther was just faster and stronger at hitting compared to meowth and it lacks a solid scattering move to hit the double teams as pay day wont cut it and it would be playing the same hit and run tactics as scyther just with scyther being better at it , going with execgutte would have its own problems as scythers bug typing counters pyschic and grass but execgutte can play more defensively and in a stalling game scyther is already pretty injured we just need to stall and beat it
"Come on out, Exeggcute!" Grey shouted, his voice echoing across the cliffside.
Blue watched the cluster of eggs materialize, his mind immediately whirring Why Exeggcute? He knew the typing inside and out it put Grey at a massive disadvantage against a Bug-type like Scyther. He didn't delve into the "why" for long, though
"Reflect, now!" Grey ordered. A translucent screen materialized in front of the eggs.
Blue didn't hesitate. "Scyther, get in close! Fury Cutter!"
Scyther blurred, its wings buzzing with intensity as it zoomed toward the target. But Exeggcute's multiple heads weren't just for show; their collective eyes tracked the green blur with precision. Just as Scyther entered striking range, the eggs flared with psychic light.
"Confusion! Hold it!"
The psychic grip caught Scyther mid-lunge, freezing the predator in place for a few vital seconds.
"Toxic!" Grey followed up. Exeggcute spat a glob of concentrated venom, drenching the trapped Scyther.
Crap, Blue thought, his brow furrowing. This wasn't the "weak" matchup he expected. "Air Slash, now!"
Scyther beat its wings with a violent flap, sending sharp blades of pressurized air at point-blank range. Exeggcute tried to use Confusion to cushion the impact, but at this distance, the force was too great. The eggs were sent flying across the dirt.
Exeggcute managed to hover back into the air, using its psychic power to stabilize its landing. Grey didn't let up. "Set up Sunny Day!"
The eggs began to glow, channelling fire-type energy into the atmosphere. The move wasn't fully functional yet, but they were making steady progress, the intensity of the light growing as the sun's glow began to artificially swell.
Blue reacted instantly realising it might be for Chlorophyll. "Double Team! Attack from all angles!"
Multiple illusions of Scyther swarmed the area, circling execgutte, Just as the Sun reached its peak intensity, Scyther closed in.
"Wide-range Confusion!" Grey yelled.
A pulse of psychic energy exploded outward in every direction. The shockwave rippled through the illusions, popping the clones and clearing the field.
However, the real Scyther was already inside the guard. It lunged with a Night Slash that bypassed the psychic wave, its dark-infused blade slamming into the eggs for a devastating, super-effective hit. But in that exact moment of contact, Grey's plan clicked into place.
"Leech Seed!"
The seeds latched onto Scyther's carapace just as Exeggcute was hurled away by the force of the slash. The eggs struggled to get back up, looking battered and in very bad shape. Scyther watched them with a predatory smirk, but the expression didn't last. The poison ticked, and the Leech Seeds began to glow, sapping the bug's life force.
"Synthesis!" Grey commanded.
"Oh hell no!" Blue barked. "Scyther, another Night Slash! End it!"
But the Sun was out, and with Chlorophyll active, Exeggcute's speed had improved massively. It channeled the solar energy into a rapid Synthesis before Scyther could bridge the gap.
Using its enhanced mobility, Exeggcute skidded its body through the air, barely dodging the incoming blade, and retaliated with a hard Confusion blast that shoved the bug-type backward.
The momentum had completely shifted. Within seconds, the stalling tactics took their toll. Scyther was barely clinging to consciousness, while Exeggcute had recovered a significant portion of its health.
Blue realized the gravity of the situation—Scyther had no healing moves. He had to end this immediately.
"Double Team Night Slash! Everything you've got!"
Grey looked at the jagged caltrops scattered across the ground from earlier. "Lift the Spikes!"
Using its psychic power, Exeggcute yanked the Spikes off the ground, hovering them in the air like a cloud of glass shards. As the Scyther clones swarmed in, Grey launched the projectiles.
The hovering spikes shredded through the illusions, and several hit the real Scyther, further injuring it.
The bug-type ignored the pain, pushing through the barrage to land one final, heavy Night Slash. Exeggcute countered at point-blank range with a Confusion pulse and a desperate Giga Drain.
Both Pokémon recoiled, barely standing. They glared at each other, swaying on the brink of total collapse. Scyther looked like it might just have the stamina to stay upright until the Leech Seed pulsed green and the poison surged one last time.
The bug-type's eyes rolled back as its health hit zero. Scyther fainted, ending the match and exeggcute looked at the bug type, it was barely active as if even a tiny attack would faint it .
Author's Note: This one took me quiet a while to edit from the draft i had written, will upload the next chapter post this maybe in the weekends now, again if there are any issues just mention it might correct it later tired for now.
Thoughts:
Blue might have won had he used a different set of Pokemon infact even for the current match Grey barely gets lucky from the leech seed and toxic, the thing is Blue had options compared to Grey with just 4 pokemon for now .
Honestly I might have to think up for the sixth pokemon and a buffer for 2 more pokemon which I might add at a later stage after the sixth pokemon is captured .
Also will try to focus more on quality and getting most of my thoughts in the chapter so it might take longer time to upload as this is something i only do in my free time which is quiet less.
How did you guys like the battle?
