The council chamber remained silent for several breaths after Damon walked out. The grand doors shut behind him with a heavy sound, mirroring the rage of its ruler.
But the silence felt louder than the Emperor's voice had moments ago.
The guards stationed along the walls remained still, with their hands resting over their swords and expressions unreadable.
One of the Lords looked at the one beside him. Then, quietly…the whispers began. Lord by Lord, everyone started to say something.
"Another escape? How on earth is that possible?" one asked, leaning to his neighbor.
The man eyed him, "It happened once. What makes you think it can't happen again?"
"The dungeon is guarded at all hours."
"His Majesty already suspects someone in this room. Thinking about how the prisoner escaped is the least of our problems."
"Impossible," the one leaning, shook his head, "Never in my years would I ever think I would be suspected of treason."
"Well, first time for everything."
