Chapter 49 - EXTRA CHAPTER— THE BEGINNING

That afternoon, 云海 was windless. Sunlight poured over the wide streets like a thin layer of liquid gold, coating the entire city. The crowd moved in its usual rhythm, a financial district that never paused.

And within that motion, three individuals stepped into the same intersection—without realizing that this single moment would alter the trajectory of their lives entirely.

宋以燕 stepped out from a shop on the corner, her heels striking the cold pavement in a steady rhythm. Her gaze was calm, unhurried, as if nothing in the world around her was worth more than a passing glance—until she collided with two men walking side by side.

The impact was light, but enough to make all three of them stop.

In that moment, 以燕's eyes did not linger on the man to the right—the one who clearly held the center of gravity—but instead fell directly on the one to the left. Quieter. More restrained. Yet carrying an inexplicable pull. Their eyes met for only a second—brief, but far from accidental.

The corner of 以燕's lips curved slightly. Not a friendly smile, but a proud, almost amused arc—as if she had just discovered something intriguing within a system she already understood too well.

"What's your name?" she asked, her voice not loud, but clear enough for both of them to hear.

傲神 did not answer.

He held her gaze for one beat longer, then turned away and continued walking alongside 傲天 as if the question had never existed.

傲天 cast his brother a brief glance—subtle, unreadable—then turned away as well.

They walked on.

But the air behind them was no longer the same.

After a few steps, when the distance was just enough that no one else could hear, 傲天 finally spoke, his voice low, almost devoid of emotion.

"That girl… is interesting."

傲神 did not respond immediately.

A faint curve touched his lips—unclear whether it was a smile or simply an instinctive reaction to something that had just been triggered.

"Do you like her?" 傲天 asked.

A brief silence.

"…She'll do," 傲神 replied, simple and without hesitation.

Then he turned back.

Not out of thought.

But instinct.

On the other side, 以燕 had just reached her car. Her hand rested on the handle, about to open the door, when a voice called out from behind her.

"Hey."

She turned.

傲神 stood a few steps away. His gaze was no longer as cold as before, but it had not softened either.

He was about to say something.

But before he could—

以燕 stepped forward.

The distance between them closed instantly. She leaned in slightly, her lips near his ear, her voice low enough for him alone to hear:

"Tonight. Eden Hotel."

One second.

No more.

She stepped back.

Her expression unchanged.

Then she turned and walked away—

without waiting for a response.

傲神 stood still.

For the first time in years, his heartbeat fell out of its usual control.

"…Alright," he said softly.

But she was already gone.

One month later.

Top floor of Vũ Corporation.

The city still stretched beneath them—still running, still cold, still precise, as if nothing had ever changed.

傲神 stood by the glass window, not turning around.

"Brother," he said, his voice as steady as always,

"She's pregnant."

A brief silence filled the space behind him.

"What…?" 傲天 paused, a rare flicker crossing his eyes.

"She's pregnant? That fast?"

He let out a short laugh.

Not out of joy.

But surprise.

"I'm serious," 傲神 said.

"…Mm." 傲天 regained his composure almost instantly.

He took out his phone.

"Hello, Mom."

"Prepare a wedding for 神."

"That girl is pregnant."

No explanation.

No discussion.

He hung up.

Then looked at his brother.

"Not bad."

The corner of 傲神's lips curved again, this time more clearly.

"You'll be my best man."

When 傲神 spoke to 以燕 about the wedding, his voice remained steady, without pressure.

"We should get married."

以燕 looked at him.

No avoidance.

No softness.

"No need," she said.

"I have no intention of getting married."

In that moment, something subtle shifted in 傲神's eyes.

Not anger.

But… surprise.

For the first time in his life, the man who stood at the top of a vast financial system was rejected—not because he wasn't enough, but because she simply did not need him.

He did not ask why.

He did not press.

He remained silent.

A few days later, the 武 family came to the 宋 residence.

Not to negotiate.

But to confirm.

以燕 sat across from them, her gaze calm, unpressured, unyielding.

"That works," she said.

"My condition is this—武 and 宋 will neither compete nor form an alliance."

"And the child… will not be used in any strategy."

The room fell silent.

A condition.

But in truth, a boundary.

A line she drew across the entire system.

傲天 looked at her.

For a long moment.

Then nodded.

"Alright."

No objections.

No further negotiation.

Because everyone understood.

That life…

did not belong to the board.

And for the first time in many years, in a city where everything could be calculated, there existed something that none of them had the right to control.

Not love.

Not hatred.

But a beginning.

A beginning… that had never been part of any plan.
