"Oh, Ms Piper?" Ms Curtis glanced at her and smiled back. She handed Luellen the folders and the coffee tray. "Sorry, Ken keeps texting me. Director has an early meeting today. It completely slipped out of my mind. Organizing a farewell party is surely taxing. Yeah, your office should have given you your invitation. Are you going?"
"Yes. Hopefully, we can get enough rest before the party." Luellen chuckled at the relieved face of Director Lawford's second secretary. That woman manned the office while the first secretary tailed the director.
Ms Curtis nodded. "I know right. Everyone's trying to maximize today's workday. Tomorrow night, we should shine the brightest. Do you know? Mauve is…"
The chatter was soft, but in a jam-packed elevator, their words were strangely the only noise. The other passengers had quieted down as if listening.
