Chapter 5 - No way back, to Mexico.

"If it's not rude… can I ask what your power is?" Nova asked carefully.

Stacy stayed quiet for a few seconds before finally answering.

"…Okay."

She took a deep breath.

"I can create wormholes. I can travel anywhere three times a day. I can take people with me too… as long as they're holding my hand."

Nova listened silently.

"But there's a drawback," she continued. "When I activate it, it takes around three seconds before the wormhole fully works. If someone moves me during those three seconds, the ability gets cancelled."

"And then?" Nova asked.

"I can't use it again for another hour."

Nova leaned back slightly.

That explained everything.

Why she froze back at school.

Why she looked terrified instead of escaping immediately.

Her ability wasn't instant.

One mistake during activation could completely ruin it.

"That's still insanely strong," Alice said.

Stacy gave a weak smile.

"Yeah… if I don't panic first."

The atmosphere slowly became lighter after that.

For the first time since everything happened, Stacy actually looked relaxed.

Eventually, Nova grabbed a controller.

"You guys wanna play?"

Alice instantly nodded.

"Yes."

Stacy laughed quietly. "You're definitely gonna lose."

"For your information," Nova said seriously, "I'm elite."

"You got stuck in a tutorial last time," Alice replied.

"That game was poorly designed."

The three spent the next hour playing games, arguing, yelling, and forgetting about reality for a little while.

It almost felt normal again.

Almost.

Then Nova's phone vibrated.

He casually glanced at the notification—

before his expression froze.

Breaking News:

3 New Teenagers Found Having Powers.

Security Footage From Stacy's House Leaked Online.

The room immediately went silent.

Stacy slowly looked up.

Alice grabbed Nova's phone.

The screen showed blurry footage from outside Stacy's house.

The police.

The attack.

The sudden disappearance of the man.

And worst of all—

millions of views.

"They leaked it…" Stacy whispered.

"No," Nova said quietly.

"Someone leaked it."

Another notification appeared.

The comments were already exploding with theories.

Experiment subjects.

Government weapons.

Aliens.

Mutants.

Some people were even trying to identify them.

Alice looked genuinely nervous now.

"What do we do…?"

Nova immediately looked toward Stacy.

"How long has it been since your ability got cancelled?"

Stacy checked the time.

"…Over an hour."

Nova stood up instantly.

"Then we leave."

"What?"

"We can't stay here anymore," Nova said. "If the footage spreads more, people are going to come here."

Stacy's parents overheard everything downstairs and quickly rushed up.

Nova explained everything fast.

The leaked footage.

The news.

The danger.

The room fell into silence.

Then Stacy's mother spoke quietly.

"…Go."

Stacy looked shocked.

"Mom—"

"You kids aren't safe here anymore."

Her father clenched his fists but nodded.

"We'll handle things here somehow."

Alice nervously looked between everyone.

"So where are we even supposed to go?"

Nova answered immediately.

"Somewhere far."

A few minutes later, the three stood in an empty alley behind the house.

Stacy slowly raised her hand.

A strange distortion appeared in the air.

Like reality itself was bending.

A circular crack of light slowly opened.

The wormhole.

Alice stared at it in disbelief.

"…That looks horrifying."

"Thanks," Stacy muttered nervously.

Nova grabbed both of their hands.

"Ready?"

Alice immediately shook her head.

"No."

"Too late."

The distortion suddenly expanded—

and the three disappeared.

Meanwhile…

10 days earlier.

Rain poured heavily onto the streets.

A little boy sat quietly beside a broken wall while his older brother performed tricks for passing strangers.

Cards danced between his fingers flawlessly.

Coins disappeared and reappeared effortlessly.

But barely anyone stopped.

Most people simply walked past them.

Some ignored them completely.

Others laughed.

The older brother still smiled anyway.

Because smiling earned more money.

A black car slowly stopped nearby.

The little boy immediately became cautious.

A man in a formal suit stepped out holding an umbrella.

He watched the performance silently for a moment.

Then he approached the older brother.

"You're talented," the man said calmly.

The older brother blinked in surprise.

"…Thank you."

"How would you feel about performing at a government program?"

The boy froze.

"A government program?"

The man smiled politely.

"There's money involved. Real money."

The little brother's eyes widened slightly.

The suited man crouched down slightly toward them.

"You two deserve a better future."

For the first time in a long time—

the older brother looked hopeful.

The three stumbled out of the wormhole seconds later.

Alice almost fell onto the ground immediately.

"I hate this power," she muttered while holding her head.

Stacy looked exhausted too. "You try bending space-time three times a day."

Nova looked around carefully.

Bright signs.

Crowded streets.

Spanish conversations everywhere.

"…We're actually in Mexico," Alice said quietly.

For a moment, none of them spoke.

It felt unreal.

Yesterday they were worried about homework and school.

Now they were hiding in another country.

Nova quickly focused again.

"We can't stay outside too long."

Stacy nodded tiredly.

"My ability still has limits. We need to use it carefully."

The three explored the area a little while trying not to attract attention.

Everything felt unfamiliar.

Different food stalls.

Different language.

Different atmosphere.

But despite everything—

it strangely felt safer than home.

At least for now.

After some time, Nova suddenly stopped walking.

"I need to go back."

Alice looked confused. "What?"

"My parents."

Stacy immediately understood.

"And money," Nova added.

The three found a quieter area nearby.

Stacy took a deep breath and activated her ability again.

The air distorted violently.

The wormhole reopened.

A few seconds later—

Nova and Stacy stepped into Nova's house.

The place was completely silent.

Nova quickly grabbed cash, clothes, chargers, and a few important things into a backpack while Stacy stood near the door nervously.

"What if someone followed us?" she whispered.

"They didn't," Nova replied quickly.

His parents rushed toward them after hearing movement downstairs.

At first they looked terrified—

then relieved.

Nova explained everything rapidly.

The leaked footage.

The news.

Mexico.

His mother looked overwhelmed.

His father stayed silent for several seconds before finally speaking.

"…We're actually running."

Nova lowered his eyes.

"I know."

But after everything that happened—

they all understood there wasn't much choice left.

Stacy reopened the wormhole.

Nova's parents grabbed their hands tightly.

And seconds later—

they disappeared again.

By the time they returned to Mexico, the sky had already become dark.

Everyone looked exhausted.

Even Stacy was struggling to stand properly now.

"We need rest," Alice said quietly.

For once, nobody argued.

The group rented a small hotel room for the night.

Nothing fancy.

Just enough.

The atmosphere inside was strangely quiet.

Nobody knew what to say anymore.

Everything had changed too fast.

Nova sat near the window staring outside at the city lights.

Somewhere out there—

people were probably still talking about them online.

Searching for them.

Making theories.

Meanwhile, Stacy sat silently on the edge of the bed.

Alice eventually looked toward her.

"You okay?"

Stacy forced a small smile.

"…I think so."

But honestly—

none of them were okay.

That night, exhaustion finally defeated fear.

One by one—

they fell asleep.

The next morning felt calmer.

Almost peaceful.

For the first time in days, nobody was running.

Nobody was screaming.

Nobody was pointing guns at them.

After eating breakfast, Stacy prepared to use her ability again.

"One more trip," she said.

"Then I'm done for today."

This time, she brought Alice's parents.

The explanation was difficult.

The panic was worse.

But eventually—

they understood the situation enough to agree.

By the end of the day—

all of them were finally together in Mexico.

Far away from home.

Far away from normal life.

And far away from the people searching for them.
