Chapter 41 - Chapter 41: Collateral Damage

Flender hesitated. "That's impossible, right? Shrek Academy's reputation is well known in the city. With just a little inquiry, they should easily find the place."

Suddenly, his expression changed. "Is it possible they ran into some kind of trouble and couldn't get away?"

Dai Mubai blinked. That did seem possible.

But it was already late. It would not be convenient to search for them now.

After thinking for a moment, Dai Mubai said, "Headmaster, I heard they often participate in matches at the Great Spirit Arena."

"How about this, during the day we search inside the city, and later in the evening we check the Great Spirit Arena?"

Flender agreed with the suggestion.

After a pause, he asked, "What are the girls' names?"

A few days earlier, the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect had sent him a letter personally written by Ning Fengzhi.

The letter clearly stated that they would send Ning Rongrong to him so that he could help correct her temperament.

Since Wu Qi and Chang Kong had not arrived due to unforeseen circumstances, and he did not know Ning Rongrong's situation, he casually asked.

When Dai Mubai mentioned the names of the two girls, Flender froze once again.

"She didn't come?"

"Headmaster, who?" Dai Mubai asked.

Flender did not respond.

Ning Rongrong's safety was extremely important. If she had not arrived at Shrek Academy, something had most likely happened.

Flender did not dare take it lightly. He immediately wrote a letter to the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect and, that very night, entered Suotuo City to search for Ning Rongrong.

That night, he was destined to find nothing.

At that moment, Wu Qi and the other two had already arrived at Spirit Master Town on the outskirts of the Star Dou Great Forest.

The Star Dou Great Forest was only half a day's carriage ride from Suotuo City.

In the original timeline, the Shrek Seven Devils ran there on foot. But in Wu Qi's view, if one had the money to rent a carriage, why run and suffer for no reason?

Besides, he had no interest in unnecessary hardship.

After entering Spirit Beast Town, Ning Rongrong found everything new and kept looking around curiously.

"Miss Rongrong, when you hunted your previous Spirit Rings, didn't you ever rest in Spirit Beast Town?" Chang Kong asked.

Ning Rongrong shook her head.

When she hunted her first and second Spirit Rings, the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect had already located suitable Spirit Beasts in advance. Sword Douluo or Bone Douluo would take her directly there.

They would depart and return on the same day, never stopping in Spirit Beast Town.

Wu Qi reminded her, "Don't stare around too much. There are all kinds of people here, and many likely have taken lives."

Those with blood on their hands were highly sensitive to their surroundings.

If someone watched them for too long, it could arouse suspicion or even provoke desperate action.

They found a nearby restaurant and finally had dinner.

Inside a private room, Wu Qi released the little deer as usual.

It was Ning Rongrong's first time seeing it, and she immediately became fond of the fluffy creature.

"Brother Wu Qi, is this a Spirit Beast? It's so cute."

"It is a Spirit Beast, and it already has a hundred years of cultivation," Wu Qi replied.

Ning Rongrong was startled at first, but seeing that the little deer showed no aggression, she relaxed and began petting it.

Chang Kong casually recounted some of their shared experiences with the little deer.

This small Spirit Beast had helped them twice.

The first time was in Death Canyon, where it found poison for them, indirectly leading to the death of a Spirit Ancestor.

The second time was before they entered Heaven Dou City, helping them avoid an ambush by bandits.

Strictly speaking, with the Golden Eagle Spirit Douluo secretly protecting them, they likely would not have been injured, nor faced mortal danger.

However, if they had run into trouble so soon after setting out, the Spirit Hall's Hall of Worship would surely have lost confidence in them.

After being brought back, they might not have had another opportunity to leave for several years.

Ning Rongrong rubbed the little deer's fur and smiled. "I didn't expect this little one to be so capable."

In terms of age, the little deer could easily have been her grandmother.

However, among Spirit Beasts, a hundred years of cultivation still counted as a juvenile stage.

When the waiter served the dishes, the two small antlers on the little deer's head did not glow, indicating that the food was not poisoned.

After their previous experience, Chang Kong and Wu Qi closely observed the waiter's movements.

Once the private room door was closed and the waiter showed no suspicious behavior, Chang Kong let out a breath. "Good thing this isn't a shady place."

With so many Spirit Masters gathered in Spirit Beast Town, few would dare tamper with food under normal circumstances.

Their earlier experience was unlikely to repeat.

Halfway through the meal, a loud commotion erupted in the restaurant.

Chang Kong had just stood up to see what was happening when a figure suddenly flew into the private room, smashing into the table and overturning it.

"Damn, our luck is terrible," Chang Kong muttered.

Wu Qi bent down to check the identity of the man lying on the ground.

"He's from Spirit Hall!"

Chang Kong almost let something slip. "Why are they causing trouble for us? What are they doing here?"

Wu Qi looked outside the private room. From his angle, he could barely see people fighting in the restaurant hall.

He then glanced out the window. A large number of Spirit Hall Spirit Masters had already surrounded the entire restaurant.

With such a formation, they were most likely pursuing criminals.

They had simply been caught in the crossfire. With the table overturned, this meal was clearly over.

Moreover, they could not easily intervene.

First, they could not expose their connection to Spirit Hall. Second, they did not know who the criminals were. Acting blindly would only create more chaos.

"Brother Wu Qi, should we climb out the window?" Ning Rongrong pointed behind her.

Wu Qi shook his head.

Not everyone in Spirit Hall knew them. Climbing out now would look suspicious.

If they were accidentally injured by a powerful Spirit Master from Spirit Hall, it would be a ridiculous outcome.

"Close the door. We'll wait until the commotion outside ends," Wu Qi decided.

The three waited patiently in the private room. Before long, the door was struck by a Spirit Ring ability and shattered into pieces.

"Damn it, I can't take this anymore."

Cursing, Chang Kong summoned his Coiling Dragon Staff Spirit. Two yellow Spirit Rings shone beneath his feet.

This time, Wu Qi did not stop him and allowed him to rush out.

Ning Rongrong quickly summoned her Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Pagoda Spirit and provided enhancement.

"Brother Wu Qi, aren't you going to help?" Ning Rongrong asked.

Leaning against the wall, Wu Qi shook his head. "Not yet. It's not time."

Chang Kong carried the Pope's Decree. Once the Spirit Hall members saw it, they would not attack him. At the same time, they could learn the objective of Spirit Hall's mission.

Under normal circumstances, Spirit Hall did not act so recklessly.

Most likely, they were facing extremely vicious individuals this time.

About five minutes later, the disturbance in the restaurant subsided, and Chang Kong returned.

Spirit Hall never needed to justify its actions, so Ning Rongrong did not ask what had happened.

Chang Kong gave Wu Qi a look, and the two stepped outside the private room.

"Brother Wu, it's the Spirit Hall branch from Southwest City carrying out an operation. They've been chasing two evil Spirit Masters from Southwest City all the way here."

Wu Qi understood.

When dealing with evil Spirit Masters, Spirit Hall would indeed use whatever means necessary.
