Chapter 70 - Breaking the Hokage Monopoly — The Strongest Uchiha Clan Head

Long ago, Tsunade had proposed reforming Konoha's medical system.

The higher-ups brushed it aside.

"Insufficient funds."

"Low priority."

"Not the right timing."

Excuses.

Kato Dan had stood up in that meeting to support her. That was how they met. How they fell in love.

Then the Second Shinobi War broke out.

Dan died.

Nawaki died.

Tsunade developed hemophobia.

For a medical ninja, fear of blood meant the end of everything.

Disillusioned, she left Konoha with Shizune.

Jiraiya's Mission: Near Impossible

Back in the present, Tsunade's tone remained cold.

Jiraiya already knew this would be difficult.

But he hadn't expected to hit a wall immediately.

He straightened his posture.

"Danzo is dead."

"Root is gone."

"Konoha isn't stable right now."

Tsunade didn't care.

"Good riddance."

"I never liked that old vulture anyway."

Jiraiya added:

"He was killed by Uchiha Akihito."

"He's Hokage Advisor now."

"The old man wants you to become the Fifth Hokage."

Still, Tsunade showed little reaction.

But Shizune's eyes sparkled.

"Uchiha Akihito?!"

"He's that powerful now?"

Jiraiya blinked.

"You know him?"

Shizune nodded enthusiastically.

"We were classmates!"

"All the girls liked him back then!"

Jiraiya felt a sting in his heart.

Another one…

Why had he never been that popular?

Tsunade snorted.

"Hokage is garbage."

"Only fools want it."

"They can't even handle one young Uchiha."

"Hiruzen is getting worse with age."

Jiraiya perked up.

"So you'll come back?"

She glared.

"Did you not hear me?"

The Price of Convincing a Sannin

After a long night of failed persuasion—

Jiraiya had an idea.

If Tsunade loved gambling…

He would use that.

The next day, she lost everything again.

When she realized she had no money left—

She summoned him.

"Two million ryō. Compensation."

He sweated.

But he paid.

Later, over food and sake—

He delivered the real offer.

"The old man sent me with thirty million."

"If you come back, it's yours."

"And the medical department? You'll control it."

"Become Hokage, reform everything."

It was a blatant bribe.

And both of them knew it.

But money was money.

Tsunade finally relented.

"Fine."

"We'll return."

Jiraiya immediately sent word back to Konoha.

Mission complete.

His wallet cried.

The Third Hokage's Calculation

In the Hokage's office—

Hiruzen smiled faintly.

Tsunade was returning.

With her—

Balance would return.

He trusted neither Uchiha ambition nor rapid shifts in power.

The Hokage lineage had endured for generations.

First Hokage.

Second Hokage.

Third Hokage.

Fourth Hokage (his student).

The political capital of the Hokage faction was immense.

Even without bloodline succession—

It was practically hereditary in influence.

He had once hoped Orochimaru would inherit the Will of Fire.

Instead, Orochimaru chose forbidden research.

Danzo's downfall had weakened Hiruzen.

He needed Tsunade.

Because letting Akihito take the Fifth seat uncontested?

Unacceptable.

Meanwhile — Akihito's Rise

Unlike Hiruzen, Akihito was not playing defense.

Danzo's death had reshaped Konoha's power structure.

Root dismantled.

Advisor seat secured.

Clan heads leaning his way.

Even neutral factions were reconsidering their stance.

But Akihito knew something crucial:

Political power meant nothing without legitimacy.

The Hokage title was more than authority.

It was narrative.

It was symbolism.

And for decades—

That symbol had belonged to the Hokage faction.

If he wanted to break the cycle—

He needed overwhelming strength.

And overwhelming support.

Not just power.

Justice.

Vision.

Reform.

Breaking "Hokage Family Rule"

Konoha had never officially been hereditary.

But influence had flowed along the same current for generations.

If Akihito rose too quickly—

It would look like a coup.

If he waited too long—

He'd lose momentum.

Tsunade's return complicated things.

Senju blood.

First Hokage's granddaughter.

Massive prestige.

She was the perfect counterweight.

But—

Akihito wasn't concerned.

Because unlike Danzo—

Unlike the elders—

Unlike even Hiruzen—

He wasn't fighting to control Konoha.

He was reshaping it.

And in terms of raw combat strength?

He had already proven himself.

Defeated the Raikage.

Destroyed Root.

Killed Danzo.

Possessed Mangekyō abilities that defied prediction.

Within the Uchiha clan—

There had been many prodigies.

Many legends.

But none—

Had risen in an era this complex.

None—

Had dismantled internal corruption before reaching the Hokage seat.

None—

Had unified clans while challenging the establishment.

In terms of influence, strategy, and battlefield dominance—

Uchiha Akihito was already becoming the strongest clan head in Uchiha history.

Stronger than Fugaku.

More politically astute than Shisui.

More stable than Madara.

And unlike Madara—

He wasn't walking away from Konoha.

He was taking it over—

Legitimately.

The Calm Before the Political Storm

As Tsunade, Jiraiya, and Shizune leisurely made their way back—

Spending Jiraiya's thirty million along the way—

Konoha stood on the edge of transformation.

Two paths were about to collide.

Senju prestige.

Uchiha resurgence.

And at the center—

The Hokage seat.

The game had changed.

Danzo was gone.

Root was gone.

Now—

The true struggle would begin.
