I walked to her, each step slow and careful like I was approaching a wild animal that might bolt. Aurora watched me with those green eyes that saw too much, lips slightly parted, chest rising and falling with her breath.
"What are you waiting for?" she asked, voice low and impatient.
"Taking my time."
"Well, take it faster."
When I reached her, I didn't immediately touch her. I stood between her knees, looking down at her upturned face. The city lights from the false windows painted her skin gold and blue.
"Last chance to back out," I said.
"Are you trying to talk me out of this?"
"Making sure you want it."
She reached up, grabbed my shirt collar, and pulled me down to her level. "I want it. I want you."
I kissed her then, finally closing that last bit of distance.
Her lips tasted like sugar and cherries, impossibly sweet. The flavor exploded across my tongue, intense enough to make me dizzy. I pulled back for a second, staring at her in surprise.
"Holy shit," I whispered.
