Chapter 48 - Chapter Fourty-Eight

Quest: The "Orchid Garden" Initiative

Once back in the South Block, the "Magic" wasn't just for show. Donny and Charlie realized that their Kinetic Resonance could do more than move glasses of water—it could accelerate the Orchid Genesis cure.

* The Mission: The South Block's soil was poisoned by decades of industrial runoff. The Genesis formula needed a "Living Catalyst" to take root.

* The Family Effort:

* Donny & Charlie: Used their twin-link to vibrate the molecular structure of the seeds, forcing them to bypass the "Warden's Sterility" lock.

* Lou: Organized the "No-Badges" into the world's most overqualified gardening crew, using tactical shovels to dig irrigation trenches.

* Johnny: Reconfigured the city's weather-satellites to create a localized "mini-monsoon" to water the crops.

"I'm a warlord, Donny," Lou grunted, wiping mud off his tactical vest as he planted a row of bio-luminescent tomatoes. "I'm the Shield of the South. Why am I holding a bag of fertilizer?"

"Because, Lou," Donny said, sitting on a nearby crate and lazily using his mind to levitate a watering can. "A King who can't feed his people is just a man with a heavy hat. Also, you missed a weed. Left side. Behind the kale."

Lou threw a handful of dirt at Donny. Donny didn't move a muscle; the dirt simply stopped mid-air, hovered for a second, and fell neatly back into the garden bed.

"Cheater," Lou muttered.

The "Twin Power" Training Disaster

Charlie and Donny decided to test their Sensory Overlay in the kitchen. It was a mistake.

"Okay, Charlie, I'm going to taste the soup," Donny said, standing ten feet away with his back turned. "Tell me if it needs salt."

Charlie took a massive spoonful of Sarah's "Industrial Strength" chili.

Donny instantly doubled over, clutching his throat. "Gah! It's lava! Why is it lava?! My tongue is vibrating!"

"It's not that bad!" Charlie yelled, her own eyes watering as she shared the burning sensation. "Wait—Donny, stop! If you sneeze, I'm going to—"

Donny sneezed. A mile away in the armory, a rack of rifles neatly stacked themselves into a pyramid. In the kitchen, every cabinet door flew open at once.

Sarah walked in, saw the floating soup spoons and her husband crying about spicy broth. She just sighed and walked back out. "I'm going to Lou's. At least he only breaks things with his hands."

Quest: The "Viper's Shadow" (The Kidnapping Attempt)

Aether-Biotech finally sent a "Red-Tier" extraction team to snatch Charlie while Donny was "distracted" with the gardens. They thought they were being stealthy. They didn't realize that in the South Block, the twins were the air.

The four kidnappers cornered Charlie in the botanical wing. "Don't scream, little girl," the lead merc sneered, leveling a high-tech dampener at her.

Charlie didn't scream. She didn't even look scared. She just tilted her head. "Donny? They're being rude."

Suddenly, the mercs' shadows began to move independently of their bodies. Donny stepped out from behind a pillar, but he didn't draw a weapon. He just crossed his arms.

Donny closed his eyes. The mercs' guns suddenly became incredibly heavy—weighing roughly 400 pounds each. They slammed to the floor, pinning the mercs' hands underneath.

Charlie flicked her wrist. The oxygen in a two-foot bubble around the mercs' heads vanished. Not enough to kill them, just enough to make them feel like they were breathing through a straw.

"Hypothetical question," Donny said, walking up to the gasping lead merc. "If I 'blink' you to the top of the mountain where my goat friend lives... do you think you can make it down in tactical boots?"

The mercs frantically shook their heads.

"Good answer," Charlie chirped, her eyes glowing green. "Now, let's talk about where the Board of Directors is hiding their 'Black Ledger.'"

The South Block was finally breathing again.

The worst of the trauma was finally over and the crew could finally just live the lives they finally deserve to have and be happy.
