Chapter 12 - Flying sword

---

"Why are you so quiet today?"

"Is it because your name 'Quiet' Dancer?" he laughed at his own ridiculous joke.

"Don't tell me you still want to go to that place."

"Come on, it's been two months, you should move on."

"You know, you remind me of a song from my previous life. Apocalypse. Oh, I know, it sounds kinda dangerous. But it's actually quite romantic. And nostalgic. And it quite fits your situation."

"Nah, I can't sing for you, that will ruin it. And it was a great feeling when I first heard it. I don't wanna spoil it for you."

"Maybe I'll ask Kai to recreate it so you can hear it too?"

"You do like music, right? I doubt many swords like music."

Raine was moving through the crimson labyrinth. A slender Rapier moved with him, floating at his eye level by his side.

He was in a serious conversation with the floating sword.

"So what will you like to hear next?"

"Did I tell you how I got caught smoking by a teacher in my school?"

"So I was -"

The Sword moved. Swift. It moved towards an entrance in the coral wall and disappeared.

Soon a screech was heard from within.

[You have slain an Awakened beast, Carapace Scavenger]

[Your soul grows stronger]

The Sword returned as swiftly as it had disappeared. Returning to Raine's side.

"Have I ever told you how beautiful you are?" he said looking at the floating sword that still had some blood drops on its surface.

"What, only three hundred times? That's too little. I would make sure it reaches the thousand mark before we reach the Dark City."

The Sword spun in the air, flicking off blood in all directions.

"Too much you say? But that's just how wonderful you are. You totally deserve it."

Raine said. Moving forward leaving the corpse and soul shard behind.

He didn't have anything to carry the shards. No memories. No pockets. Nothing.

He could create something like a makeshift bag. But he didn't bother. That was just a bother to him. Why would he wanna ruin his quality time by carrying weight. For some future profit? Nah, it wasn't worth it. He liked moving this way.

Not to mention when he tried, he had dropped them in water quite a few times.

It happened when he decided to also move when it was night.

He had some shells from Carapace monsters. And he had Quiet Dancer. So he chose to risk it.

Risk Surfing in the dark sea while Quiet Dancer pulled the 'Surf board'.

He had a bit of experience. So it all turned out ok in the end.

Except the times when he had to climb blindly on corals to run from some monsters from the depths.

"Hey, I sense a horde up ahead. About twelve or thirteen." He looked at the sword.

"What do you say? Just like old times, shall we?"

The Sword spun in the air. As if showing a positive reaction.

....

It loved it. It loved killing these noisy creatures. But it hated it too. It hated how noisy this human was.

It even tried to kill him at first. To go back. To its master's grave. But whenever it tried, it always found itself in that dark place. Where it couldn't move, where it couldn't think.

Soon it understood the situation. It was now bound to this human. And it couldn't leave him. Or kill him.

Or it would be destroyed too. It didn't wanna. Not with all the precious memories it had of its master.

So it had decided to travel with this human. To somewhere named Dark City. It would assist him. It would protect him. It would kill his opponents. Just like old times.

Because that's the only thing it knew how to do. That's what it was made for.

....

The scavengers were gathered. About fifteen. All feasting on a giant corpse. Sometimes a fight would break out between them over food. But at the end they would return to the corpse. It was enough. Enough to feed them all. But they had to hurry. Or the sea would take it away. They were totally engrossed in the feast.

That was why they didn't see a blade flying and burying itself in one of the monsters' head. The monster fell without a sound from its mouth.

The others didn't notice anything. Food was more important than the small fights that always broke out between them.

So they didn't notice. Until one of them let out a dying screech. The creatures looked around. They saw three corpses of their fellow kind.

They looked for the attacker. Only to see a sword moving towards one of them. The next moment that one fell too.

The scavengers became afraid. They raised their pincers to attack or defend, whatever the situation called for.

The flying blade was swift. They couldn't catch it. But they still could deflect some of its attacks. But then they weren't able to do that too.

Suddenly strength left their bodies. Like they hadn't eaten in days. Their bodies became weak. So when the flying blade came again, they couldn't do anything.

So they died. One by one. By that Flying blade.

....

Raine saw the last monster die. It didn't take even a full minute from the start of the fight. This was so easy. He had a grin on his face.

This Echo suited him. It worked so well with his aspect. He would weaker the opponents, the Echo would finish the job. Way better then before.

He returned with his physical body to collect the shards from the monsters. He summoned the Azure Blade to slice them open.

A beautiful blade appeared in his hand. Azure with beautiful patterns. Tiny sparks shining inside the steel.

The Rapier floated back to him, just to see that damned sword again. This human was using it again. Even though It was here. It didn't like it.

It moved away.

....

Raine, who was going to slice open the bodies of the creatures to get their soul shards, stopped. He saw the Rapier behaving this way. Again.

He knew. He understood that the blade didn't like this particular blade. It was just too beautiful. And the Rapier wasn't. But he didn't know that a sword would feel this kind of jealousy.

He was stunned at first. Then started to tease the sword. But now, he just put it back in his soul sea and brought out a Katana, one of the many weapons he got from the spell throughout this three months' journey.

"Come on, it slipped from my mind that you hated that sword. But it's a bit on you too, you know."

"If you could also slice one of these bodies, I would never touch any other weapon as long as I had you."

"So come here, practice a bit on your slashing too. What if we faced something with a big body in the future? We should prepare."

The Rapier didn't like it. But it was true. It wasn't made for slicing things. It was made to thrust, to penetrate. So it made sense that the human used another blade than itself. But still, it didn't like it.

It didn't like it as it moved and sliced at the body of a scavenger.

Raine smiled. He greatly enjoyed the company of his new Echo. Even though it had tried to kill him at the start. But that just meant that now they understood each other enough to work together like this.

"You know, I have decided. From here on now, I'm gonna call you TerraPrisma. Cool name right? You have a boring name so I don't use it often. That's why you need a new name."

The Rapier stopped. It turned towards the human. Not expecting something like that.

"Oh, you wanna know the origin of this Name. Ok. I'll tell you. It's a weapon from my old world. It was so powerful, it could kill celestial beings in a matter of minutes. Kinda awesome, right?"

"And that was also a floating blade just like you. Always by its user's side, protecting them from everything. Just like you."

"Oh, but calling you TerraPrisma also doesn't sound good, it's a bit big on the tongue. Ok, so how about just Prisma?"

The Rapier didn't know how to respond to this. It already had a name. Something that even its master was familiar with. So how could it abandon that name and agree to be called something else.

But that weapon sounded strong. And the name was also strong. So it should accept it? It wasn't like it would be with this human forever. So it should be ok. It would be better than just being called hey, or flying blade.

So it spun in the air, to show that it liked that name.

"Oooo, How cute, you are so cute, you are just too cute, did I ever tell you how cute you are?" Raine said with a 'How cute' expression on his face.

He still remembered the first time he read the description of the Flying Rapier. It had made his heart ache a bit. But now, everything was great. Everything was so smooth thanks to his new companion.

He summoned his runes.

He closed the Runes. The Rapier or now Prisma had returned to thrusting at the monster corpses again.

A smile bloomed on his face.

He liked this new Echo of his. He liked it too much. He knew it wasn't common.

But he couldn't help it.

He has been and he will always be a sucker for flying swords.
