Chapter 85 - Chapter 85: Su Yun, the Millionaire!

What Gu Hai didn't know was that Su Yun wasn't afraid of him at all. In fact, she had always believed that he was "incapable," so whenever she was with him, she felt completely safe.

After Gu Hai left, Su Yun got straight to work. Like a wild horse set free, she plunged into the river and began selling pile after pile of magnetic stones to the system.

When she finally stopped and checked her balance, she was stunned.

13,046,790.4.

In just that short time, her balance had increased by more than three million!

She was no longer just someone with ten thousand yuan—she was now Su Yun, a millionaire!

What was Gu Hai's ten million compared to this?

If she worked a little harder, she could become Su Yun, a multi-millionaire!

"Hahaha… hahaha… hahaha…"

Su Yun stood with her hands on her hips, laughing loudly, feeling like her future was shining brilliantly.

By the time Gu Hai couldn't resist coming to look for her, Su Yun's balance had already exceeded fifteen million. She was no longer laughing wildly, but instead wore a cool, smug, almost villainous grin.

Standing by the river, shaking her leg, she looked every bit like a newly rich upstart.

The sight made Gu Hai feel uneasy all over. His voice even softened a little. "Su Yun… I didn't see anything just now."

Su Yun waved her hand casually. "It's fine. Even if you saw something, it doesn't matter."

She was a millionaire now—being seen a little wouldn't cost her anything!

Besides, it was Gu Hai.

Thinking this, Su Yun glanced downward at him and sighed inwardly: What a pity.

In that brief moment earlier, she had clearly felt that Gu Hai seemed quite "spirited"… what a waste…

Hearing her words, Gu Hai secretly felt delighted.

Su Yun didn't allow him to look at others, yet she didn't mind him seeing her. That meant she must have feelings for him too—he wasn't in unrequited love!

Lost in his romantic thoughts, Gu Hai didn't even notice that more than half the stones in the river were gone.

Afraid he might notice something strange, Su Yun quickly stopped showing off. She grabbed his hand and pulled him along. "I've already checked this side—there's nothing here. Let's go over there and take a look."

Gu Hai, still dazed, let her pull him along, his heart filled with happiness.

After passing through some grass, they arrived at a small slope.

Su Yun had already made over five million today, so she casually picked up a stick and started poking around. Unexpectedly, her luck was excellent—after just a few sweeps, she noticed something in the dirt reflecting light.

She crouched down to dig, but Gu Hai stopped her gently. "Don't do it yourself. Let me handle this kind of work."

In just a few motions, Gu Hai cleared away the dirt and uncovered something resembling an ancient bronze mirror—though it looked quite different.

The surface of the mirror was engraved with complex characters and strange patterns that were hard to understand.

Su Yun couldn't help but touch it. Instantly, the system prompted—

"Ding! One Qin-era astronomical mirror detected. Well-preserved. Recovery value: 1,000,000. Sell?"

Su Yun: "…"

She had gone numb.

After half a day of treasure hunting, Gu Hai rode back into the city with Su Yun. On the way, he deliberately stopped by the supply and marketing cooperative to buy her a pack of peach pastries.

Holding the pastries, Su Yun didn't know whether to laugh or cry.

As soon as they reached the entrance of the courtyard, they saw Su Baoguo and the neighborhood children running back with their school bags, all drenched in sweat.

The air was filled with the aroma of stewed chicken.

The children sniffed eagerly, and Su Baoguo said proudly, "It must be my mom cooking chicken! She said yesterday she'd stew chicken for my second brother-in-law today!"

Sure enough, when they entered the courtyard, the smell was coming from Su Yun's kitchen.

Madam He sat at the door fanning herself and listening to the radio, speaking in a sarcastic tone, "Some people shouldn't pretend to be rich when they're not. My son-in-law is a truck driver—that's why he can bring us roast chicken. As for your so-called son-in-law, what is he even worth? Does he deserve to eat chicken?"

Su Baoguo snorted and immediately rushed over, shouting, "You're the worthless one! Your whole family is worthless! No—your whole family isn't even worth anything! You clean toilets every day and stink so badly, but you don't even wash yourselves. You smell from two miles away—ugh!"

From the kitchen doorway, Chen Xiue called out, "Xiao Wu, what are you arguing with that old widow for? Hurry up and bring your second brother-in-law inside to eat!"

"Got it!" Su Baoguo responded loudly.

Su Yun noticed He Hua peeking from the kitchen. Seeing the expectant look in Gu Hai's eyes, she decided to act a little childish for once. She took out a peach pastry, bit into it exaggeratedly, and said:

"Wow, Gu Hai, the peach pastries you bought me are so fragrant—so delicious!"

Gu Hai narrowed his eyes with a smile, his tone indulgent. "Then I'll buy them for you every day."

Su Yun nearly choked. She whispered, "You can't eat these every day—you'll gain weight."

"It's fine. You're so thin—you should eat more!"

As they talked, they entered the house.

Inside the He family's kitchen, He Hua clenched her teeth so hard her eyes nearly bulged!

Today, Chen Xiue had slaughtered their own rooster and stewed it with mushrooms and kelp, making a big pot of chicken.

She also prepared stir-fried bamboo shoots with pork, shredded potatoes, and scrambled eggs with chives.

Before the meal, Chen Xiue filled a bowl with chicken and asked Su Baoguo to share it with the children waiting outside, drawn by the aroma.

Seizing the opportunity, Su Wenshan quietly took out a bottle of liquor.

But this time, Chen Xiue didn't tolerate it. She immediately scolded, "Drink? You still want to drink? After drinking last night, you almost got late for work this morning—have you forgotten?"

Su Wenshan tried to argue, "But Gu Hai is here—I'll just have a couple of drinks with him."

Hearing this, Su Yun turned to Gu Hai and said, "Drinking is bad for your health. You already have issues—don't drink anymore."

Gu Hai immediately agreed, "Alright, I'll listen to you."

But… what did she mean by saying he already had issues?

Why didn't he know about that?

Seeing this, Chen Xiue glared at Su Wenshan. "Look at Gu Hai—so obedient and sensible. And look at you! At your age, don't you know your own health condition?"

Then she paused, curious. "Xiao Yun, what health problem does Gu Hai have?"

Gu Hai was also curious, staring straight at Su Yun.

Su Yun coughed awkwardly and improvised, "That was a slip of the tongue. I meant that drinking isn't a good habit—it can cause health problems. Like Dad—didn't his blood pressure come back high during his last check-up?"

"That's right!" Chen Xiue chimed in. "Even Doctor Jiang next door said your father should drink less, but he never listens!"

Su Wenshan protested, "Doctor Jiang is a gynecologist—why should I listen to her?"

Chen Xiue put her hands on her hips. "Then listen to me! You're not drinking tonight. Do you hear me?"

Su Wenshan: "…"

What else could he do?

If he didn't listen, he'd be in serious trouble.

In the end, he didn't get a single sip of alcohol that night.

After dinner, Gu Hai once again rushed to wash the dishes.

With a glance from Chen Xiue, Su Yun automatically went to help him.

When only Chen Xiue and Su Wenshan were left in the main room, she smiled and nudged him.

"Old Su, did you see that boy Gu Hai? When our Xiao Yun spoke to him just now, he didn't even dare talk back. He's clearly honest and reliable. I think this match is definitely going to work out—we can just wait to drink our son-in-law tea!"
