Chapter 57 - Chapter 57: Bloody Predator, Crimson Blood Sub Dragon

Chapter 57: Bloody Predator, Crimson Blood Sub Dragon

The Thick Armored Earth Dragon reacted quickly. The moment it sensed danger, it immediately abandoned the food in its mouth.

A low, muffled growl full of warning rumbled out of its throat.

Its short, thick limbs dug firmly into the ground as it turned to face the threat. A layer of yellow light shimmered across its earthy scales, making them look even thicker and heavier than before.

Even so, the aura of the newly arrived predator was clearly superior.

Its body was far more slender than the Thick Armored Earth Dragon's, but that streamlined frame was packed with power. Dark red scales covered it from head to tail, each one gleaming with a metallic sheen under the sunlight.

Most striking of all was the row of ferocious blood colored bone spikes running down its back, stretching like sharp blades from its neck all the way to the tip of its tail.

Its head resembled that of a lizard, with an unusually long snout full of bone white fangs. Deep in its throat, a faint dark red glow flickered.

"It's a Crimson Blood Sub Dragon."

Lin Mo narrowed his eyes slightly. His tone turned much more serious, yet a rare trace of excitement appeared in his voice.

Their luck was truly good.

Over the past 3 days, the Spirit Beasts they had found were all Earth Dragon types with bloodlines on roughly the same level as the Thick Armored Earth Dragon. Most of them were even lower in cultivation, which was why Lin Mo had chosen the Thick Armored Earth Dragon as his target in the first place.

But this Crimson Blood Sub Dragon was completely different.

Unlike the Earth Dragon type Spirit Beasts they had encountered before, this was a true Spirit Beast with Sub Dragon blood flowing in its veins.

Ignoring its age for the moment, its bloodline quality alone placed it among the absolute top tier of this artificial Soul Hunting Forest.

What was even rarer was its attribute. It was a Sub Dragon Spirit Beast with the uncommon attribute of blood and qi.

No matter how one looked at it, this Crimson Blood Sub Dragon, a top predator within this forest, was far more suitable than the Thick Armored Earth Dragon to become Charmander's 2nd Spirit Ring.

At that thought, Lin Mo's gaze immediately swept across the blood colored bone spikes along the Crimson Blood Sub Dragon's back.

Judging by their length, thickness, and the dark red color gathering at their tips, the age of this Crimson Blood Sub Dragon was roughly between 800 and 850 years.

Even if his estimate was slightly off, it could not possibly exceed 900 years.

It fit his expectations perfectly.

Now that the Crimson Blood Sub Dragon had appeared, Lin Mo immediately discarded the Thick Armored Earth Dragon from consideration.

After all, whether in terms of bloodline or overall age, the Thick Armored Earth Dragon was more than one level below the Crimson Blood Sub Dragon.

This was practically the best possible option delivered right to his doorstep.

His fists tightened unconsciously.

Beside him, Charmander also sensed Lin Mo's thoughts. Its body tensed slightly, and the flame on its tail flickered in silence.

It too was filled with battle intent.

Before this, because it had to split its attention to protect both Lin Mo and Ye Lingling, Charmander had never been able to fight with its full strength.

Now that an opponent worth going all out against had finally appeared, it was exceptionally excited.

Just like Tianlin, once it entered battle, Charmander was a complete battle maniac.

Lin Mo quickly began calculating in his mind.

For an ordinary quasi Spirit Grandmaster, the limit for a 2nd Spirit Ring was usually around 700 years.

This was a conclusion verified by countless Spirit Masters and could be said to apply to the overwhelming majority of people.

But for Lin Mo, who possessed twin Martial Souls, that limit was not quite enough.

The enhancement to his physique brought by his twin Martial Souls, especially his Body Martial Soul, had long since made his body far stronger than that of Spirit Masters at the same Rank.

Combined with the training he had gone through during this period, as well as the subtle improvements brought by Blood Burst, his physical fitness had improved significantly.

By his own estimate, his current body could already touch the threshold of absorbing a thousand year Spirit Ring.

Even so, Lin Mo still had no intention of taking the risk of absorbing a thousand year Spirit Ring as his 2nd Spirit Ring.

First, his judgment of his own physical condition was only a rough estimate, not an exact measurement.

There were too many variables involved in spirit ring absorption. Blindly challenging a spirit ring beyond one's true limit was simply too dangerous.

One moment of carelessness could result in damaged meridians, or worse, dying from his body bursting apart.

Taking such a risk for a single thousand year Spirit Ring was not worth it at all.

Second, and more importantly, even if his body truly had reached the level needed to absorb a thousand year Spirit Ring, it was still better to choose a high quality hundred year ring with a sufficiently high age.

Just like this Crimson Blood Sub Dragon in front of him.

Without a powerful backer, if he, a mere Spirit Grandmaster, produced a thousand year 2nd Spirit Ring, the attention it would attract would be far too terrifying.

Once that news spread, it would undoubtedly cause a massive uproar.

After all, in another timeline, the stir Tang San caused by producing a ten thousand year 4th Spirit Ring had already been enough to attract the attention of countless factions.

Many forces had tried to recruit him, while those certain they could never win him over had quietly begun planning to assassinate him.

Lin Mo was not Tang San. He had no powerful figure standing behind him.

Without sufficient strength and background, acting too high profile was no different from seeking death with a lantern in hand.

He understood the principle all too well. The tallest tree in the forest is always the first to be broken by the wind.

This Crimson Blood Sub Dragon, with its age of around 850 years, powerful bloodline, and age safely below his current limit, was the most perfect 2nd Spirit Ring he could possibly obtain at this stage.

After making up his mind, Lin Mo silently turned his head toward Ye Lingling and whispered in a firm voice, "Sister Lingling, we're changing targets. Forget the Thick Armored Earth Dragon. I want to hunt this Crimson Blood Sub Dragon. Its Spirit Ring is much more suitable for Charmander."

Hearing that, Ye Lingling lowered her gaze toward the Crimson Blood Sub Dragon, which had already begun completely suppressing the Thick Armored Earth Dragon.

This Spirit Beast gave her a far more dangerous feeling than any beast they had encountered over the past few days.

In the short time they had been speaking, the Thick Armored Earth Dragon, with its 600 years of cultivation and heavy defensive scales, had already had its defense broken by the Crimson Blood Sub Dragon.

That alone proved the Crimson Blood Sub Dragon's strength was anything but ordinary.

Ye Lingling fell silent for a few seconds. After weighing everything, she quickly made her decision.

She nodded, her voice as cool as ever. "Alright. I'll trust your judgment."

She believed in Lin Mo.

After traveling together these past few days, she understood one thing very clearly. Lin Mo almost never fought a battle he was not confident of winning.

Since he dared to target this Crimson Blood Sub Dragon, then he had to have enough strength to deal with it.

At that thought, Ye Lingling subconsciously glanced at Lin Mo and Charmander.

Deep down, she could not help feeling that this boy and dragon still held trump cards she knew nothing about.

If that were true, then with the 3 of them working together, they really might have a chance against a Spirit Beast whose cultivation had not yet reached 1,000 years.

And even if they truly failed, they still had one final trump card.

Ye Linyuan, an 8 ring Spirit Douluo, was protecting them from the shadows.

Though Ye Linyuan was not a battle type Spirit Master, with his 8 ring cultivation, crushing this Crimson Blood Sub Dragon would be absurdly easy.

Meanwhile, the Crimson Blood Sub Dragon had clearly lost all patience.

A wave of scorching blood and qi erupted from its body as its long snout snapped open and lunged toward the Thick Armored Earth Dragon's vital points.

It was obvious that it wanted to kill the Thick Armored Earth Dragon as quickly as possible and claim its prey.
