Chapter 114 - The Harmonic Frequency

[ SYSTEM INSTALMENT: REAL-TIME THREAT VECTOR ] Entity: Senior Auditor Malachai Shield Status: Class-5 Imperial Phase-Shield (Frequency: 412.8 kHz / Variable) Allied Status: Captain Alex Shen (Modulating Power Core Output) Tactical Sync Probability: 31.4% (Extremely Volatile)

The concrete dust hung in the air like a silver shroud, illuminated by the volatile turquoise glow of the central grid.

Zeta was already back on her feet, coughing up a spray of pink static bubbles as she braced the handle of her phase-saw against her hip. The gold-lined Directorate runes on her weapon were pulsing erratically, protesting the kinetic back-blast from Malachai's illegal phase-shield.

"Evelyn, I can't pierce that honeycomb mesh from the outside!" Zeta yelled over the comms, her voice straining against the high-pitched whine of the enforcers' lances. "The frequency is shifting too fast. It's actively deleting the kinetic momentum of my blade!"

I stood between Malachai's enforcers and Alex, my Void-Iron claw smoking from the residual friction of the singularity absorption. The Stage 4 algorithms in my brain were running millions of defensive permutations per second, but every single path finalized in a resource deficit. The Auditor's shield was absolute; it didn't just block attacks—it removed them from the local geometry.

Then, the blinding white spark of the industrial plasma cutter flared.

"Evelyn! Get back!" Alex roared.

He didn't retreat. He stepped forward, his eyes burning with the raw light of his Tactical Perception. His human mind was redlining, forcing his brain to decode the shifting visual frequency of Malachai's honeycomb barrier. He jammed his thumb into the plasma cutter's manual override switch, forcing the tool's internal battery to dump its entire reserve into the nozzle.

"Modulating output frequency to four-one-two point eight," Alex muttered to himself, his hands steady despite the chrome enforcers locking their targeting lances onto his skull. "Syncing... now!"

A solid, continuous beam of blinding, white-hot plasma erupted from the cutter. It didn't bounce off Malachai's phase-shield. Because Alex had perfectly matched the shield's vibrational frequency, the plasma beam sliced cleanly into the honeycomb matrix, creating a jagged, smoking fracture in the white light right over the Auditor's left shoulder.

[ CRITICAL WEAKNESS DETECTED ] Source: Industrial Plasma Resonance Target: Class-5 Phase-Shield -> Structural Flaw Isolated. Time to Shield Re-calibration: 1.8 Seconds.

The Auditor's mirror-mask flared with a sudden array of golden error codes. For the first time since he had stepped into the command hub, his silver hands paused their decryption of the vault doors.

"An unauthorized frequency modulation," Malachai's neural broadcast rumbled, a sharp spike of mechanical distortion seeping into our minds. "Enforcer Three, eliminate the engineer."

The enforcer's lance charged, but the 1.8-second window was already counting down inside my head.

"Zeta, clear the path!" I commanded, my voice echoing with a hollow, multi-layered resonance that shattered the remaining glass panels in the room.

"Way ahead of you, Boss Lady!" Zeta screamed.

She launched herself forward, her phase-saw roaring back to life at its absolute limit. She didn't strike the Auditor; she drove the spinning, rusted tip of her blade directly into the ground beneath the feet of the two enforcers. The floorboards violently ruptured, throwing the chrome soldiers off balance as the titanium grid lines snapped like twigs.

With the enforcers' targeting lines broken, I stepped into the vacuum.

My left arm throbbed with an absolute zero cold as I channeled the remaining 85% friction charge directly into my Void-Iron claw. I didn't use a localized lock; I thrust my geometric fingers straight through the smoking fracture Alex had carved into the phase-shield.

My dark, jagged hand clamped onto Malachai's silver shoulder.

Spatial Compression, Level 3: Singularity Collapse.

The space within the Auditor's modified chassis violently inverted. The silver chrome of his limbs, the golden robes of his office, and the intricate circuitry of his mirror-mask were instantly pulled toward the absolute zero focal point of my palm. The white phase-shield shattered into millions of harmless, drifting pixels as his internal core compressed under the weight of its own density.

A deafening, metallic screech echoed through the hub as Malachai's featureless face fractured, the mirror-glass spiderwebbing with violet light before collapsing completely into a hyper-dense, silent stone.

[ SYSTEM NOTICE: HIGH-LEVEL TARGET ELIMINATED ] Entity: Senior Auditor Malachai -> Neutralized. Resource Acquired: Imperial Auditor Core x1 Local Grid Status: Stabilizing. Warning: Directorate Reclamation Fleet Alert Status -> MAXIMUM.

The remaining two enforcers instantly froze, their chrome limbs going limp as the central administrative signal from their Auditor died. They collapsed onto the ruined grating like discarded puppets, their lances clattering uselessly against the metal floorboards.

The room returned to a heavy, suffocating silence, broken only by the low, dying hiss of Alex's burned-out plasma cutter.

Alex dropped the smoking tool, his chest heaving as the tactical light in his eyes slowly faded back into a dull, exhausted grey. He looked at the hyper-dense, crushed remnant of the Auditor sitting at my feet, then up at my solid violet eyes.

"We killed an Auditor, Evelyn," Alex said, his voice a ragged whisper that carried no triumph—only the terrifying weight of what was to come. "The fleet above the tower... they know."

Zeta killed the engine of her saw, slinging it back over her shoulder as she walked over to the desk, her sharp eyes scanning the sky through the shattered viewing windows. The massive obsidian dreadnought was already beginning to hum, its central core shifting from a brilliant white into an aggressive, apocalyptic crimson.

"The invoice is officially open now, guys," Zeta muttered, her usual toothy grin completely gone as she looked at my Void-Iron claw. "We didn't just break a regulation. We just declared war on the entire Western Core."
