Chapter 286 - 284

Chapter 284

The Beginning of Everything

|I created that First Earth, and then I created living beings upon it.

In that absolute darkness, the planet known as the First Earth was the very embodiment of light in my eyes. I never stopped working, nor did laziness ever find its way to me. I created the earth and the stars in the palm of my hand, and began bringing living beings into existence one after another.|

Cain's voice was filled with pride and happiness, proud of what he had created even before the beginning of everything.

Arthur listened to the story quietly. Although he was still trying to comprehend the fact that Cain, his companion throughout his journey, was actually Azathoth's brother, he pushed those thoughts aside and continued listening attentively.

|As time passed, and without my even realizing it—a metaphorical expression, not a literal one, since a being in that form is omniscient—the number of creatures on Earth increased. My creations grew, laws were established, and families were formed. Love, life, death, sorrow, pain, and suffering… I witnessed everything in its most beautiful and most cruel forms.

Some grew weaker, while others grew stronger. I watched millions of years pass peacefully across the First Earth, in a state of majestic tranquility. Because of them, something I had never known before came into being within me… something called life.|

Cain stopped there, and Arthur heard a soft, gentle sigh echoing inside his mind.

|You know, Arthur, life truly is a beautiful thing. I mean, life and death. Happiness and sorrow. Pain and heartbreak. Growth and evolution… It is something so astonishingly beautiful that it is almost unbelievable.|

"Yes… It really is beautiful."

Arthur smiled calmly. The doubt and confusion that had crept into his heart for a fraction of a second vanished completely, leaving not a trace behind.

|After all of that, I made my decision. I would let things take their course.

Perhaps making that decision was truly rash. From that very darkness, universes began to emerge and take shape. Using the will of the universe that I had established with my own hands, I created universes one after another.|

"Wait, wait. I'm sorry for interrupting your story every five seconds, but as you know, this is an overwhelming amount of information… Are you telling me that you created everything? I mean, literally everything?" Arthur asked, not with suspicion, but with pure astonishment.

|Yes and no, at the same time. I created the First Earth, yes. But the other universes, parallel worlds, and everything else, including the worlds of the companions we encountered throughout our journey… No, I wasn't the one who created them. It was the Law of Existence itself.|

"The Law of Existence?"

|That is something I truly cannot explain. Some things require you to reach a certain level of power before you can obtain information about them.

The Law of Existence is one of those things, just like the First Creature, the Great Sacred Library, the Library Guardian, the Owner of the End, and many other things.|

Arthur genuinely understood what Cain meant. He himself had experienced something similar in Kim Dokja's world.

In that world, it was called the Law of Causality.

There had been many occasions when he was unable to speak certain truths about himself because Kim Dokja's world did not possess enough causality to withstand the weight of such terrifying information.

The simplest example was when Arthur tried to talk about the world of Cthulhu or anything he had experienced there. He noticed that his voice would become distorted, and anything he attempted to say would be immediately encrypted by the world itself.

That was the Law of Causality.

Cain cleared his throat quietly within Arthur's mind and continued.

|After that, I began watching everything evolve on its own. Existence, civilizations, death, life, evolution, advancement, separation, fusion, and everything else.

It was unbelievably beautiful, Arthur. So beautiful that I lost track of time simply watching it all and wondering… Did I really create this?|

Arthur smiled quietly. For the first time, he could hear these emotions in Cain's voice.

That nostalgia. That extraordinary, indescribable tranquility.

It was truly beautiful.

|And then the catastrophe occurred.

My father returned with my brothers and discovered what had happened… Let's just say that my father was not particularly fond of the things I had created. He looked upon them as a god might look upon ants, quite literally.

He ordered Abhoth to destroy everything.|

Arthur's body trembled. It was neither anger nor madness.

He trembled because of the sorrowful, pained voice of Cain, his companion who had endured every horrifying ordeal alongside him.

Helplessness weighed heavily upon Cain's voice as he continued in a low tone.

|My father gave that order, but I refused to accept it. That was why I fought Abhoth, and after a long time… I defeated him.|

A heavy silence fell.

|At that moment, my father became furious. He was angry because he saw his own power within me, but not his way of thinking or his laws. Instead, he saw kindness in me… something my father could never accept.

After I defeated Abhoth, I thought he would send Azathoth this time, but he didn't. Instead, he came himself… and began fighting me.|

At those words, Arthur's body began to tremble.

He shook violently with rage, clenching his fists tightly.

"That bastard…" Arthur whispered in a low voice.

Meanwhile, Cain continued his story.

|The battle began and continued for millions of years without stopping. But at the very last moment, through a powerful and precise attack… my father used his ruthless cunning to bring me to the brink of death.

My father was the strongest, yes, but during that battle, I was unbelievably close to matching him. And all of that was thanks to the First Earth I had created and the way it had evolved.

The universe I had created, along with the other universes I brought into existence, granted me a boost in power that allowed me to keep up with my father. But in the end, that boost faded and disappeared, while my father remained unquestionably the strongest.

I don't know whether it was love, pity, or something else… but I saw Azathoth move forward to stop my father from killing me.

When my father noticed him moving, he stopped for a fraction of a fraction of a second. Then he raised his hand… and unleashed a devastating blow against my head.|

Cain's voice trembled, but he continued.

|At that moment, I could think of nothing but the planet I had created. I knew my father would destroy it after my death. I tried to resist, but it was useless. My body refused to move.

But… in the final moments of the First Earth, a black, dark, beautiful shadow emerged. It stood before my body and calmly blocked the blow with one hand, completely at ease, as though it were nothing. A small smile rested on its face.|

"Huh?"

|What?|

"A beautiful, dark shadow wearing an ornate wooden necklace. It spoke in an almost arrogant voice, as though it knew the beginning and the end before they had even been written?" Arthur asked in astonishment, while Cain stiffened.

|How could you possibly know that?|

"You idiot… Damn it, I really am the idiot here.

During my first battle with Cthulhu, that being appeared. It stopped Cthulhu from devouring everything and returned him to his eternal prison."

Arthur fell silent.

He sighed softly before continuing.

"At that time, you were so weak that you could barely function properly. And after my battle with Cthulhu, we were on the verge of death, while you were practically nonexistent.

Just before Cthulhu delivered his final blow, that thing appeared and helped me… No, it didn't help me. It ended everything all by itself."

At this revelation, Cain looked at Arthur in astonishment and disbelief.

|Is what you're saying true?|

Arthur sighed, feeling somewhat incredulous himself, as everything had now become incomprehensible.

"Of course it's true, you idiot. Do you think I'm lying? It really happened. Back then, I thought he was simply some powerful being who had sensed the danger posed by Cthulhu and come to help me, or something along those lines.

But now… now I truly don't understand anything anymore."

|If it was the same shadow, then that is truly strange.

That being was powerful, Arthur. And I mean truly powerful. After he helped me, we were able to defeat my father. But Azathoth intervened. After his intervention… the shadow disappeared once again, leaving behind a few words that inspired me to do what I did later.

Then my one-on-one battle with Azathoth began… until it ended in a draw.

Afterward, we agreed that Azathoth would no longer interfere in the affairs of the universes.

Abhoth tried to rule, conquer, and do whatever he pleased… but Azathoth paid no attention to him.|

Cain took a deep breath.

|After the draw, Azathoth lost most of his power. As for me… well, I lost everything. My body, my power, my soul, my origin… All that remained was a tiny fraction of my power.

I shaped it into a cocoon on one of the planets and entered it. And that was how I became what is known as the System.|

He fell silent for a moment before continuing.

|After I regained some of my power, I saw you and your world. I placed myself inside you… so that I could grow stronger once again, return… and settle my score with my brothers and all the other bastards.|
