Chapter 104

Flood Disaster (3)

Everyone sat immersed in their thoughts, wrapped in a heavy silence, as if the very air itself awaited the next decision.

Arthur slowly approached Shin Yoosung, sat in front of her at eye level, and looked at her calmly.

She raised her head toward him, then whispered in a trembling voice:

"Am… am I a bad person, big brother?"

Arthur's heart paused for a moment.

"Why would you say that?"

She lowered her head slightly and replied in a faint voice:

"I heard you… I heard you say that I would destroy Seoul. Am I really bad?"

"No, you—"

But his words were cut off.

Tears suddenly streamed from Shin Yoosung's eyes—hot tears filled with pain, sorrow, and suppressed weakness.

"I'm bad… I know it… And I'll be punished for what I did."

Memories flooded her mind.

The day the scenario began… The day she had to kill her dog to survive. Days of stealing, lying, deceiving. Everything she had done just to stay alive.

And with every act… Tears had been her companion, And pain her constant shadow.

In the present, Shin Yoosung raised her eyes toward Arthur.

Her eyes were dark, empty of life's light. The eyes of someone exhausted by the scenarios, weary of this broken world.

Eyes that begged for death.

"You can kill me now, big brother."

Arthur smiled.

A calm, warm smile, devoid of pity.

"Don't worry, little one. Your death isn't the ending I want… Nor the one my foolish friend wants."

Then he continued in a steady voice, cutting through all doubt:

"I won't let you die. And I won't let anyone kill you. I swear it."

He reached out, placed his hand on her head, and gently patted her.

{The character Shin Yoosung has begun to trust you more}

But she whispered stubbornly, in despair:

"But you have to kill me… I'm evil."

Arthur sighed and looked at her for a long moment.

"If mere stealing makes you evil… Then what does that make me?"

He paused briefly, then spoke more firmly:

"If killing you is the only solution to avoid the disaster, then I'll destroy the scenario itself, I'll break those damned dokkaebis, and I won't let anyone lay a hand on you. Alright? I swear I will protect you."

Arthur lifted his head upward, as if looking somewhere beyond— toward the constellations.

"And if anyone harms you, I swear I will destroy this entire world and everything in it. I will kill all the constellations. I will erase their existence and end their reality. You have my word."

Despite Arthur's fierce threat, no messages came from the constellations.

No mockery. No hatred. No anger. Nothing.

As if, deep down, they knew that if something truly happened… Arthur would do it. He would keep his promise.

Arthur stepped closer and said:

"All you have to do is trust me… and help me end this damned scenario."

She raised her eyes hesitantly:

"But… how can I help you? I'm just a child without a sponsor."

Arthur smiled, then opened the dokkaebi bag.

"How can you say you have no sponsor?"

---

{You have sponsored the incarnation Shin Yoosung with a Growth Package} {You have sponsored the incarnation Shin Yoosung with Growth Package 2} {You have sponsored the incarnation Shin Yoosung with a New Scenario Celebration Package}

---

Her eyes widened in shock.

"Isn't this… expensive?"

"Don't worry, I'm a little rich."

And inwardly, he thought:

'I have plenty of coins, and I'm already strong. Why waste them on myself when I can nurture this girl?

From what I understood from Dokja, her attribute is monster taming, and her future self… is terrifyingly powerful.

If I raise her, I'll gain immense support. And beyond that… I won't let anyone go through that damned feeling again.'

He smiled as he looked into her shining eyes.

"Who… who are you really, big brother?"

"I'm… just someone they call Arthur Narin."

Then he added calmly:

"Five days from now, you'll become stronger than almost anyone here."

---

After some time, Arthur tried to get a bit of sleep, but the messages wouldn't leave him alone.

{The constellation Demon-like Judge of Fire urges you to nurture your incarnation} {The constellation Demon-like Judge of Fire is pleased with your decision} {The constellation Prisoner of the Golden Band finds your decision amusing} {The constellation Miraculous Narrator advises you to strengthen yourself first}

"What are you all talking about? Let me do what I think is right for once! Damn it… every time I try to do something, messages pour in from everywhere."

He raised his head and looked at Shin Yoosung.

She was still training. In front of her was a level-two monster, and she was trying to tame it with full concentration.

"Shin Yoosung, did you sleep?"

"Yes… a little, big brother."

"Sleep more. If you don't, you'll receive a penalty from the scenario."

"Just… a little more."

She closed her eyes, and an orange aura began to swirl around her. The aura compressed, forming a large hand that reached toward the monster.

The monster trembled in fear.

After a few moments, the aura enveloped it completely and subdued it.

Sweat gathered on her forehead from the intense concentration.

"I did it, big bro—"

And she fell asleep.

Arthur smiled as he looked at the monster.

It was a small bear with an iron horn on its forehead.

The little bear approached her and gently touched her hand.

Arthur lifted her and placed her on the bear's belly, then sat beside them and lay down as well, so he wouldn't receive a scenario penalty.

Meanwhile, Kim Dokja, Yoo Sangah, and Han Sooyoung were busy training and planning.

Morning came quickly.

Everyone immersed themselves in their tasks.

Arthur trained Shin Yoosung at times, and trained himself as well.

---

|Exclusive Skill: Necromancer| |Proficiency: 90%| |Level: D| |Number of Followers: 20/10|

'I'm one step away from advancing…'

Then he trained his Dragon Form.

---

|Dragon Form| |Hybrid transformation between human and dragon| |Solid defense – powerful offense – high focus| |Level 5| |Duration: four minutes|

'My development in Dragon Form has increased… It has reached level five, and the duration has improved as well. That's good.'

Arthur opened his status window, calmly examining himself, then continued thinking:

'Let's see… how many coins do I have left to develop my body without recklessness?'

He had already understood it from Kim Dokja. Spending coins during battle wasn't true development—it was merely a temporary enhancement; energy that passed through the body and left without leaving a lasting effect.

Arthur had discovered this himself after defeating the Question Disaster. Back then, after the battle ended, his stats had returned to their original state, as if all that power had been nothing but an illusion.

But this time was different.

Arthur sat calmly, focused his breathing, and began to develop his body properly. He didn't merely let the energy pass through— he forced it to settle, to merge, to become part of him.

He restored his stats to what they had been during the Question Disaster scenario… but this time, it wasn't borrowed power.

This power… had become Arthur's true strength.

He still had ninety thousand coins left. Despite what he had spent on developing himself and nurturing Shin Yoosung, that amount alone was enough to be considered a true fortune within the scenario.

The day finally ended.

Arthur looked around. Night had settled, and the fire before them flickered gently. Only he, Kim Dokja, and Han Sooyoung were awake.

Yoo Sangah and Shin Yoosung were asleep, their expressions more peaceful than they had been in days.

Han Sooyoung suddenly broke the silence as she looked at Kim Dokja:

"Hey… I have a question."

"What?"

"What's your story?"

"What do you mean?"

She narrowed her eyes slightly and said:

"I mean… every time I see you, you do something strange. Breaking the throne, not killing the child… Things no normal person would do."

Kim Dokja cleared his throat lightly.

"Ah… no, those things were done by Arthur, not me."

Han Sooyoung smiled meaningfully, then turned toward Arthur:

"We both know Arthur followed your damn plan, right?"

Arthur looked at them, then smiled calmly.

"Well… you could say yes and no at the same time."

He paused briefly, then continued:

"No, I didn't do it because Kim Dokja is my leader or anything like that. And yes, I did it because it was the same idea I was thinking of."

He cast a sideways glance at Kim Dokja.

"Breaking the throne was his idea, yes. But it was convincing, so I carried it out instead of him."

Then his tone shifted slightly as he continued:

"As for not killing Shin Yoosung… as I said before, killing her or sparing her might only change the way we die."

He paused again, then said firmly:

"But if she stays alive, we might have a better chance of facing the disaster. And even if we don't… I'm not the type to support killing children."

Silence fell.

Then Han Sooyoung asked more softly:

"So… what are you two really trying to achieve?"

Kim Dokja smiled as he stared into the flames before him.

"There's an ending… an ending I want to see. That's the reason for everything I do."

Han Sooyoung turned to Arthur.

"And you?"

Arthur exhaled slowly.

"Honestly… I don't know."

He looked at them, then said:

"You both know a lot about what's happening here. You said, Han Sooyoung, that everything happening is from a novel you've read before."

He paused briefly, then continued thoughtfully:

"If this is really a novel… then what's the meaning? All these worlds, all these places… just words on paper?"

He smiled faintly, without mockery or despair.

"As for me, I just do what I want, when I want. Nothing more, nothing less."

He looked at the fire, then continued:

"I'm trying to survive in a broken, damned world. And I'm sure each of you is doing what you do to reach an ending you want."

Then he raised his head and said sincerely:

"But I haven't read the novel. And that's why… I'm just me."

"I don't do what I do to reach a predetermined ending. Nor do I seek an ending that's already been written."

He smiled confidently.

"I do what I do to reach an ending that hasn't been written yet. An unpredictable ending."

Then he finished with a single sentence, calm and heavy with meaning:

"I'm just… living in the moment."
