Kairos lay on the soft moss bed inside the wooden cabin, his body still heavy from the aftereffects of the power he had borrowed. The morning light filtered through the small window, casting gentle patterns on the wooden walls. Aria sat beside him on a stool, her violet eyes fixed on his face, watching every small movement as he slowly regained full consciousness.
The system's interface appeared in his vision, soft and calm.
[Host Kairos. Mission complete.]
[The Chrono Echo Crystal you sought has been successfully retrieved and integrated into your Space Bag. It carries strong magic-related resonance — capable of enhancing illusion potency, manipulation of aether flows, and minor reality-bending effects when fully attuned.]
Kairos's eyes widened slightly. He felt a faint new warmth in the bag at his side — the crystal had come to him without him even realizing it during the chaos of the battle.
He looked at Aria, who was still watching him with concern.
"I… I got it," he said quietly. "The crystal we came for. It's with me now. It's magic-related, just like the system promised. I'll give you your share as we agreed. Half of whatever power or value it holds — it's yours."
Aria's expression changed instantly.
Her violet eyes flashed with anger and something much deeper. Without warning, she raised her hand and slapped him hard across the face.
The sound echoed sharply in the small cabin.
Kairos blinked in shock, his cheek stinging.
"You are so injured," she said, voice trembling with barely controlled emotion, "and you're still thinking about useless things? Share? Crystal? You almost died out there! You took on power that could have destroyed your soul, and the first thing you think about when you wake up is giving me a share?"
Tears welled up in her eyes. She tried to hold them back, but they spilled over anyway.
"You have no idea how scared I was," she whispered, voice breaking. "You have no idea how much I…"
She couldn't finish. Instead, she threw her arms around him and hugged him tightly, burying her face in his shoulder as quiet sobs shook her body.
Kairos froze for a second, then slowly wrapped his arms around her, holding her close.
Aria cried against him, the tears soaking into his shirt.
In that moment, memories flooded her mind — clear and vivid.
She remembered the day years ago when she was still a young teenager. She had been with Reck, just five years old then. A hybrid monster had attacked their old neighborhood. The creature was massive, part wolf and serpent, with crystal shards growing out of its spine. It had already killed several people. Reck had been hiding behind rubble, about to be eaten. Aria had been injured herself, bleeding from a deep gash on her side, barely able to stand. She had thought her last remaining family member was going to die right in front of her.
Then Kairos had appeared.
He was just a boy himself, no crystal power, no weapons — only a metal rod in his hands. He had charged the monster without hesitation, drawing its attention away from Reck. He got badly hurt in the process, but he kept fighting until older Crystos arrived. After it was over, when Reck was crying, Kairos had given the little boy half of his own food.
That day, Aria had fallen for him.
She had searched for him for years after that incident, but he had vanished into the slums. When he had first walked into Elysium Veil's sanctum, she had recognized him instantly — her heart had nearly stopped with joy. During the dinner invitation, she had been ready to say yes immediately, but that foolish Crysto had challenged him. In her mind, she had thought: If that idiot hurts even one hair on Kairos's head, I will destroy him.
And then there was the night with the desire-enhancing chocolate. The kiss they had shared in the heat of the moment… she had been so happy the next morning, even though she tried to hide it.
Now, holding him, all those feelings came rushing back.
"I was so scared," she whispered against his shoulder, voice muffled. "I thought I was going to lose you too."
Kairos held her tighter, one hand gently stroking her back.
"I'm here," he said softly. "I'm not going anywhere."
They stayed like that for a long time — Aria crying quietly in his arms, Kairos holding her as if she were the most precious thing in the world.
Eventually, her sobs slowed. She pulled back just enough to look at him, her violet eyes still wet but filled with something warm and vulnerable.
Then, without another word, she leaned in and kissed him.
It wasn't hesitant or shy. It was deep, full of all the emotions she had been holding back. Her hands cupped his face as she pressed closer.
Kairos's eyes widened for a heartbeat — then he kissed her back.
His hands slid to her waist, pulling her against him. The kiss grew deeper, more urgent. Aria's fingers tangled in his hair. Kairos's hand moved up her back, feeling the warmth of her skin through her clothes.
They broke apart for air, foreheads touching.
Aria's breathing was ragged.
"Kairos…" she whispered.
He answered by kissing her again, slower this time, savoring the moment. His lips moved from her mouth to her jaw, then down to the side of her neck. Aria tilted her head, giving him more access, a soft sound escaping her lips.
They shifted on the bed, bodies pressing closer. Aria's hands slipped under his shirt, tracing the lines of his muscles. Kairos's fingers found the hem of her top, gently lifting it. She helped him pull it off, revealing smooth skin that glowed in the soft light of the cabin.
Clothes were discarded slowly, piece by piece. Every touch was careful, reverent. Aria's hands explored his chest, his shoulders, the faint scars from years of survival. Kairos kissed every inch of skin he could reach — her collarbone, the curve of her breast, the flat of her stomach.
When they finally came together, it was slow and intense. Aria gasped softly as he entered her, her nails digging lightly into his back. They moved together in a rhythm that felt natural, like they had been waiting for this moment for years. The small wooden cabin was filled with the sounds of their breathing, soft moans, and the quiet creak of the bed.
Aria's legs wrapped around his waist, pulling him deeper. Kairos kissed her neck, her shoulder, whispering her name like a prayer. Their bodies moved in perfect sync — slow at first, then faster as pleasure built.
Aria's head tilted back, eyes half-closed in bliss. "Kairos… don't stop…"
He didn't. He held her close, their foreheads pressed together, sharing every breath as they reached the peak together.
When it was over, they lay tangled in each other's arms, breathing hard, skin slick with sweat. Aria rested her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat. Kairos stroked her hair gently, a peaceful smile on his face.
For the first time in a long while, the world outside the small wooden cabin felt very far away.
To be continued...
