Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: Beyond the Valley

The Hidden Valley remained peaceful.

Its rivers flowed undisturbed.

Its forests echoed with the songs of countless beasts.

To Kieran...

It was the whole world.

He had never seen a city.

Never met another child.

Never walked a road built by human hands.

Everything he knew had come from Crystal.

And yet...

He was happy.

---

Early that morning...

Crystal and Kieran stood upon a cliff overlooking the valley.

The first rays of sunlight crested the distant mountains.

"Beautiful..."

Kieran whispered.

Crystal nodded.

"It is."

After several moments of silence, she spoke again.

"Kieran."

"Yes, Mama?"

"How big do you think the world is?"

He tilted his head thoughtfully.

"Bigger than the valley."

She smiled.

"Much bigger."

She raised a hand toward the horizon.

"Beyond those mountains lies another forest."

"Beyond that forest are kingdoms."

"Beyond those kingdoms stand empires."

"And beyond the empires..."

She paused.

"...lie countless places even I have never seen."

Kieran's sapphire eyes widened.

"You haven't?"

"No."

"The world is far older and larger than any single person."

---

As they descended the cliff, Kieran's mind raced with questions.

"Are there other children?"

"Millions."

"They all cultivate?"

"Most do."

"Do they have teachers?"

"Some."

"Families?"

"Most."

"Friends?"

Crystal's steps slowed.

"...Yes."

Kieran lowered his gaze.

"I've never had a friend."

The words were spoken so softly that they almost disappeared into the breeze.

Crystal's heart tightened.

She had given him safety.

Knowledge.

Love.

But...

Not companionship.

---

Later that day...

They sat beneath the ancient oak tree.

Crystal produced a weathered map from her storage ring.

Unlike ordinary maps, it seemed almost alive.

Golden lines shifted gently across its surface.

"This..."

She said.

"...is the Melika Realm."

Kieran leaned closer.

"So small?"

Crystal laughed.

"It only looks small because it's on a map."

She pointed toward several marked regions.

"The Gardenia Empire."

"The Gandis Empire."

"The Valeria Empire."

"The Free Territories."

"The Ember Highlands."

"The Emerald Forest."

"There are also countless smaller kingdoms, cities, sects and clans."

Kieran's eyes sparkled.

"So many..."

---

She then pointed toward a dark expanse surrounding the realm.

"This is the Chaos Channel."

"It separates Melika from the other Realms."

Kieran remembered the stories.

"The sea that eats Magna."

Crystal nodded.

"It devours those who underestimate it."

"Even Monarchs tread carefully."

"And only the truly powerful can cross it safely."

Kieran stared silently at the map.

"So..."

"There are people living beyond this?"

"There are."

"Beasts."

"Ancient races."

"Kingdoms older than history."

"And powers far beyond what Melika knows."

---

That evening...

Kael arrived carrying several large fish.

"I brought dinner."

Kieran ran over immediately.

"Thank you, Uncle Kael!"

The Beast Lord smiled despite himself.

As they prepared the meal, Crystal suddenly asked,

"Kael."

"Hm?"

"Have you heard anything from outside?"

Kael nodded.

"Quite a bit."

"The Imperial Academies have begun preparing for their next intake."

"The Grand Academy has already announced its examinations."

Crystal became thoughtful.

"The Grand Academy..."

Kieran looked between them.

"What's an academy?"

Kael chuckled.

"A place where children learn."

"Like Mama teaches me?"

"Similar."

"But with thousands of students."

Kieran nearly dropped the fish he was cleaning.

"Thousands?"

"Yes."

"And teachers?"

"Hundreds."

His mouth slowly fell open.

"...That's a lot of people."

---

Crystal watched his expression carefully.

There wasn't fear.

Only wonder.

That night...

After Kieran had fallen asleep...

Crystal remained outside.

Kael sat beside her.

"You've been thinking."

"I have."

"You can't keep him here forever."

Crystal didn't answer immediately.

The silence itself was enough.

Kael sighed.

"The world is changing."

"The children born six years ago..."

"They're beginning to awaken."

Crystal nodded slowly.

"I know."

"If Kieran remains hidden forever..."

"He'll never discover who he truly is."

---

Far away...

Within the Gardenia Empire...

Princess Alya had begun formal sword training.

Prince Ethan spent his evenings studying history and philosophy.

In Ashfall Village...

Ronan forged his first real knife under his father's watchful eye.

Within the Ash Quarter...

Leon continued caring for the younger children while secretly learning from the mysterious black stone.

Deep within the Emerald Forest...

Liora spoke daily with beasts that many believed incapable of thought.

And beneath the Black Lotus Sanctuary...

Cassian learned that every lesson came with a price.

Across the Melika Realm...

An entire generation was taking its first true steps.

Unaware...

That destiny was slowly guiding them toward the same crossroads.

---

High above the Hidden Valley...

An old hawk circled lazily through the clouds.

It appeared ordinary.

Nothing more than a wandering beast.

Yet its golden eyes lingered on the valley far longer than they should have.

Then...

Without making a sound...

It turned and flew west.

Toward civilization.

Toward people.

Toward a future that was beginning to stir.

Far below, neither Crystal nor Kael noticed the silent observer.

But somewhere deep within Crystal's instincts, a faint unease took root.

The Hidden Valley had remained a secret for many years.

Secrets...

Rarely stayed buried forever.
