Chapter 44 – The Golden Night at the Golden Globe Awards
January 10, 2016 – The Big Day
The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles was in a frenzy.
The 2016 Golden Globe Awards were one of the most anticipated events of the year, bringing together the biggest stars in film and television. But for Jacob Stewart, this night was different.
This was the night his journey, from the streets to the biggest stages in the world, would culminate in something epic.
He was nominated for Best Actor in a Drama Film for his performance in The Revenant.
And the film was nominated in other major categories, including Best Drama Film, Best Director, and Best Original Score.
As the limousine approached the hotel entrance, Jacob took a deep breath.
Beside him, his agent Richard Calloway looked at him with a confident smile.
"Ready to become a Golden Globe winner?"
Jacob laughed.
"I'm not counting on it yet. But if it happens…"
Richard winked.
"If it happens, it'll only be the beginning."
The limousine door opened, and camera flashes immediately exploded.
Jacob stepped out of the car, wearing a perfectly tailored black Giorgio Armani suit. He ran his hand through his hair, adjusting his lapel, and walked down the red carpet.
The buzz among journalists and fans was deafening.
"Jacob Stewart! Here, here!"
"Jacob, how does it feel to be nominated for the first time?"
"Your performance in The Revenant is one of the most talked about of the year!"
Jacob smiled and replied to a Variety reporter.
"It's surreal. I grew up watching this awards show and now, to be here as a nominee… It's hard to put into words."
He posed for a few more photos and greeted industry colleagues. Leonardo DiCaprio, Quentin Tarantino, Charlize Theron, Matthew McConaughey, and Jennifer Lawrence were among those present.
But when he saw Alejandro González Iñárritu, he walked up to the director and shook his hand firmly.
"Tonight is our night, Alejandro."
The director smiled.
"Whatever happens, we've already won, Jacob."
The two entered the main hall, where the awards ceremony was about to begin.
The Beverly Hilton ballroom was impeccably decorated, with luxurious tables laden with champagne and soft lights illuminating the celebrities present.
Jacob sat next to the team from The Revenant, including Tom Hardy, Alejandro Iñárritu, and Emmanuel Lubezki, the cinematographer.
The awards began to be presented, one by one. The atmosphere was tense, with emotional speeches and some surprises.
But then, the first big moment of the night arrived.
The presenter took to the stage and opened the envelope.
"And the Golden Globe for Best Original Score goes to…"
"Ryuichi Sakamoto and Alva Noto – The Revenant!"
The team celebrated as the composers took to the stage to receive the award.
Jacob clapped, sensing this was a good sign.
The film had already won its first victory.
But there was more to come.
The tension rose as the Best Director category was announced.
The nominees were strong. Ridley Scott, George Miller, Todd Haynes, and Tom McCarthy were among the contenders.
The presenter paused dramatically before opening the envelope.
"And the Golden Globe for Best Director goes to…"
"Alejandro González Iñárritu – The Revenant!"
The table erupted in applause. Alejandro stood up and hugged Jacob before going up on stage.
In front of the microphone, the director took a deep breath before speaking.
"This film was a test of endurance for all of us. We filmed in the most difficult conditions possible, and the only thing that kept us going was our passion for cinema and the story we wanted to tell."
He paused and looked at Jacob.
"And, of course, none of this would have been possible without Jacob Stewart's dedication, who gave his all in this role. This award is also yours, my friend."
Jacob felt a shiver down his spine.
It was a special moment.
But he knew it wasn't over yet.
The night progressed, and finally came the category Jacob had been most looking forward to.
His heart pounded as the nominees were announced:
Jacob Stewart – The Revenant
Eddie Redmayne – The Danish Girl
Michael Fassbender – Steve Jobs
Bryan Cranston – Trumbo
The presenter held the envelope for a moment, increasing the tension in the room.
Jacob felt his leg tremble under the table.
Then, the envelope was opened.
"And the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Drama Film goes to…"
"Jacob Stewart – The Revenant!"
For a moment, he froze.
The sound of the applause seemed muffled, as if he were in a dream.
Alejandro patted him on the shoulder.
"Go on, Jacob! This award is yours!"
Jacob stood up, still incredulous, and walked to the stage under a storm of applause and whistles.
He picked up the trophy, took a deep breath, and looked at the audience.
It was real.
He had won.
He looked at the microphone and began his speech.
"I… I don't even know where to begin."
The audience laughed, and he smiled, composing himself.
"Two years ago, I was sleeping on the streets, not knowing what my future held. And now, I'm here, holding a Golden Globe. This shows me that life can change in ways we never imagine."
He paused, taking a deep breath.
"I need to thank Alejandro for believing in me. To the entire cast and crew who faced this challenge together. And, above all, to God, who guided me here."
He raised the trophy.
"This award is for everyone who has ever doubted themselves. Don't give up. Because one day, you could be here too."
The audience rose to their feet in applause.
Jacob stepped off the stage and returned to the table, still in shock from what had happened.
Richard Calloway, his agent, pulled him into a hug.
"You did it, man. You really did it."
Jacob looked at the award in his hands and smiled.
This was his first big win.
And he knew there was much more to come.
Chapter 45 – The World Reacts to Jacob Stewart's Victory
January 11, 2016 – The Morning After the Glory
The sun was already shining in Los Angeles when Jacob Stewart opened his eyes.
The first thing he saw was the golden Golden Globe statuette on his bedside table.
For a moment, he still felt like he was dreaming.
But it wasn't a dream.
He had actually won the award for Best Actor in a Drama Film.
He slowly stood up, taking the trophy in his hands. The weight of the cold metal against his skin made reality fully sink in.
He had reached the top.
And now, the whole world was talking about it.
His cell phone, which he had put aside the night before, was exploding with notifications.
Messages from friends, directors, journalists, fans…
And then, he saw his agent's name, Richard Calloway, shining on the screen.
Jacob answered, his voice still hoarse from the previous night.
"Richard…"
The agent's voice was pure energy.
"Jacob, have you seen the newspapers?! Social media?! YOU ARE THE MAN OF THE MOMENT!"
Jacob laughed, running a hand over his face.
"I imagine…"
"No, you can't imagine! I'm talking about HISTORIC level! The impact of this victory is far beyond what anyone expected!"
Jacob got up and went to the kitchen, preparing a strong coffee while putting his cell phone on speakerphone.
"Tell me exactly what's happening."
Richard laughed.
"Open any news website. Any one. Your name is in EVERY headline."
Jacob picked up his laptop and opened the main news websites.
The New York Times
"Jacob Stewart wins Golden Globe – A new king of cinema is born"
"Jacob Stewart's meteoric rise reaches a new peak with his Golden Globe Award win. His visceral performance in The Revenant not only secured him the Best Actor award, but also cemented his name among Hollywood giants."
Variety
"From homeless to Golden Globe winner – The unbelievable story of Jacob Stewart"
"Few actors can say they've completely transformed their lives in such a short time as Jacob Stewart. In less than two years, he went from the streets to winning one of the film industry's most prestigious awards. And now, the Oscar rumors are stronger than ever."
The Hollywood Reporter
"The Revenant Dominates the Golden Globes and Becomes the Big Favorite for the Oscars"
"With wins for Best Drama Film, Best Director for Alejandro Iñárritu, Best Actor for Jacob Stewart, and Best Original Score, The Revenant establishes itself as the film to beat this awards season."
Jacob ran his hand through his hair.
This was bigger than he imagined.
He opened Twitter and saw that his name was the number 1 trending topic worldwide.
The posts were a mix of excitement, surprise, and admiration.
@FilmCriticNY: Jacob Stewart delivered the performance of a lifetime. The Oscar MUST be his!
@Cinephile_101: Remember this moment. The day Jacob Stewart became a LEGEND.
@MovieInsider: Hollywood has never seen such a rapid and well-deserved rise. Jacob Stewart is the name of the moment!
@FamousActress: This guy deserves all the good things that are happening to him. Who would have thought John Wick would give us the next great Hollywood actor?
Jacob chuckled to himself, taking a sip of coffee.
People were really rooting for him.
And that meant the Oscar hype was higher than ever.
His phone vibrated with a new call.
This time, it was Alejandro González Iñárritu.
Jacob answered with a smile.
"Alejandro! Last night was quite a night, huh?"
The director laughed on the other end of the line.
"Jacob, my friend, congratulations! I always knew you were special, but seeing you go up on that stage was one of the most exciting moments of my career."
Jacob sighed, still processing everything.
"And now? What happens next?"
Alejandro laughed.
"Now?" Now, we await the 14th.
Jacob immediately knew what he was talking about.
January 14th. The day the Oscar nominations would be announced.
Alejandro continued:
"If The Revenant was already a favorite, now, after this victory, the chance of us winning the Oscar has greatly increased. And, Jacob…"
Jacob sensed the tension in the director's tone.
"What is it?"
Alejandro took a deep breath before saying:
"I really think you're going to be nominated for Best Actor."
Jacob was silent for a moment.
This was the big awards ceremony. The biggest prize in cinema.
If Alejandro, an award-winning and respected director, thought he had a real chance…
Then it could really happen.
Jacob hung up the phone and sat on the sofa, looking at the Golden Globe statuette on the table.
Over the past two years, he had undergone an unbelievable transformation.
From a man without direction, without a roof over his head, without prospects…
To a Golden Globe winner.
Now, the Oscar it was on the horizon.
But he knew that, regardless of what happened on the 14th, he had already won.
Because, in the end, he wasn't doing this for awards.
He was doing it because he loved cinema. Because he wanted to tell stories that touched people.
And, at that moment, he felt a profound sense of gratitude.
He looked up, closed his eyes, and whispered:
"Thank you, God. Thank you for giving me this chance."
He knew his journey was far from over.
But now, he was ready for the next step.
