"And let me make something clear," Karl said calmly into the phone. "Earth is technically part of the Nine Realms under Asgard's protection. Odin does not rule Midgard directly — but he considers it within his sphere of responsibility. Thor's exile is a lesson, not an abandonment. So if anything happens to him here, the consequences won't be political. They'll be personal."
There was silence on the other end.
Karl continued.
"Odin is old, yes. But he is still the Allfather. Don't mistake restraint for weakness."
He ended the call and handed the phone back to Coulson.
This wasn't goodwill.
It was a warning.
Odin had conquered the Nine Realms in his youth. He had crushed Jotunheim before and sealed away Hela. His reign was built on war before it shifted toward diplomacy. If Thor were killed on Earth while exiled, Odin's retaliation would not be subtle.
The Ancient One would not intervene unless Earth itself faced dimensional collapse. A conflict between Asgard and Earth governments would not qualify.
Karl understood that clearly.
Underestimating a grieving father — especially one wielding the Odinforce — would be catastrophic.
Inside the containment room, Loki appeared.
Illusion magic flickered briefly before stabilizing.
Thor looked up sharply.
"Brother."
Loki approached slowly.
"Our father is dead."
Thor froze.
Loki continued softly.
"The strain of your banishment was too much. Mother has forbidden your return."
Thor's face fell.
Genuine grief filled his expression.
Outside, Karl listened quietly through telekinetic perception.
Loki's voice remained gentle.
"I tried to argue for you."
Thor lowered his head.
"I never meant for this…"
Loki's image flickered.
Then he vanished.
Karl waited a moment before entering with Tony and Juggernaut.
Thor sat slumped on a small cot, staring at the floor.
Karl sighed faintly.
"Odin is not dead."
Thor looked up sharply.
"What?"
"If Odin were dead, the enchantment on Mjolnir would not remain stable. The hammer still carries his authority. That alone proves he lives."
Thor's breathing slowed.
"And Loki?"
Karl raised an eyebrow.
"Who benefits from you remaining powerless on Midgard?"
Thor's eyes sharpened.
"The throne…"
He stood abruptly.
"Loki."
Despite his brash nature, Thor was not foolish. He was impulsive — not incapable of deduction.
"You were banished for arrogance," Karl said evenly. "Not because Odin hated you. You nearly reignited war with Jotunheim. You disobeyed direct command."
Thor clenched his fists.
"I sought glory."
"You sought war."
Silence followed.
Then Thor exhaled heavily.
"I cannot lift Mjolnir."
He looked at Karl.
"You wield strange power. Are you a sorcerer of Midgard?"
"No."
Karl shook his head.
"Your power does not come from the hammer. Mjolnir is a focus — a conduit. Odin sealed your power and tied its return to worthiness."
Thor listened carefully now.
"You are not the God of Hammers," Karl said. "You are the God of Thunder."
Tony glanced sideways at Karl.
That line felt… important.
"Why was I truly banished?" Thor asked quietly.
"Because you valued conquest over wisdom. Strength over responsibility."
Thor remained silent for several seconds.
Then:
"Seek power within…"
He looked confused.
"You speak like a seer."
Karl resisted the urge to sigh.
"Call it insight."
Thor stood slowly.
His anger had softened.
Confusion remained — but something else had replaced rage.
Reflection.
"Let's leave," Karl said finally. "You won't lift Mjolnir tonight."
Coulson watched them exit but did not interfere.
Jane Foster was arguing with S.H.I.E.L.D. personnel over confiscated equipment.
Thor spotted her immediately.
"Jane!"
Darcy muttered, "Great. Viking Ken is back."
Jane demanded her research data be returned.
Thor looked at Karl.
A silent request.
Karl exhaled.
"Coulson. Return their equipment."
Coulson hesitated only briefly before signaling compliance. Fury's warning about Karl still carried weight.
Thor beamed proudly at Jane as if he had personally negotiated international peace.
Juggernaut shook his head and followed.
Tony observed everything quietly.
Thor lingered near Jane, clearly distracted.
Karl glanced at them.
Yes.
That dynamic was obvious.
He said nothing.
