Early morning.
Rokuro was still half-asleep when a knocking sound woke him up.
He dragged himself out of bed, got dressed, and washed up. After seven or eight minutes, he finally made his way to the door and opened it.
Standing outside was a silver-haired Anbu with hair like a bird's nest.
No need to guess—
it was Kakashi.
Rokuro curled his lip.
"What, is the old man that eager to see a genius like me?"
Kakashi looked at him and said flatly,
"Hurry up. Lord Hokage is extremely dissatisfied with you. If you keep stalling, you'll probably be stuck doing missions until you drop."
Hearing that, Rokuro's eyes lit up with excitement.
Doing missions until he dropped?
He loved the sound of that.
What annoyed him most was not having missions to do.
Missions meant experience.
He looked at Kakashi eagerly.
"Are you serious?"
Kakashi was momentarily speechless.
He stared at Rokuro like he was something strange.
"Why are you happy about this, you brat? You really are weird. Everyone else avoids missions like the plague."
Rokuro immediately replied,
"Of course they avoid them! That's because they don't truly care about contributing to Konoha. A good kid like me sincerely wants to serve the village—that's why I'm willing to take on missions!"
Kakashi's expression stiffened.
He didn't believe a word of it.
Still—
Rokuro being willing to do missions was technically a contribution.
After thinking it over, Kakashi shook his head.
"Forget it. Hurry up, Lord Hokage is waiting."
Rokuro suddenly turned serious, then plopped himself down right at the doorway.
"In order to get the old man to give me more missions so I can better serve Konoha, I've decided to let him wait a little longer!"
Kakashi was completely speechless.
Dealing with a bizarre brat like Rokuro, he genuinely didn't know what to say anymore.
What he said earlier had just been meant to scare him.
At the same time, he intentionally mentioned more missions so that when the Hokage assigned Rokuro a large batch of tasks—keeping him away from Konoha for a long time—he'd be mentally prepared.
But now—
that preparation clearly wasn't necessary.
This brat practically wished for more missions.
After a moment of silence, Kakashi sighed and spoke bluntly,
"Forget it. I'll just tell you. Lord Hokage has already prepared a pile of missions for you as punishment for your recent troublemaking. Since you like missions, hurry up and go accept them."
"Why didn't you say that earlier?!"
Rokuro instantly jumped to his feet, rolling his eyes at Kakashi.
"If you'd said there were missions, I would've sprinted over ages ago! Hurry up, let's go! Don't waste my time—I've got merits to earn for Konoha!"
As he spoke—
With a few quick leaps, Rokuro vanished into the distance.
Kakashi muttered under his breath and quickly followed.
Who would've thought—
that someone would actually want to take on dangerous missions?
For most ninjas, unless they were broke, they wouldn't go out of their way to accept missions.
They usually waited for assignments.
Voluntarily taking missions when they had money was practically unheard of.
Rokuro was truly an oddball among oddballs.
Hokage's Office
Hiruzen had already arrived early in the morning.
After smoking half a pipe, Rokuro suddenly burst in through the window and shouted eagerly,
"Old man, where are my missions?!"
Hiruzen had long expected this reaction.
Even boring D-rank missions were something Rokuro did with enthusiasm.
If given higher-level ones, there was no way he'd refuse—he might even be thrilled.
And now—
it was exactly as expected.
This kid was unusually passionate about missions.
Even Hiruzen couldn't quite figure out why.
After a moment of thought, he set down his pipe, looked at the excited Rokuro, and snorted.
"You little brat—you caused such a huge mess, and you don't even have the decency to apologize?"
Rokuro snapped out of his excitement and shrugged.
"Aren't I here to atone by doing missions? Hurry up and give me the list—I want to make up for it as soon as possible!"
Hiruzen lifted his pipe and smacked Rokuro on the head.
"If you keep talking nonsense, I won't give you a single mission! I'll have you locked up in Root!"
Rokuro immediately straightened up, his tone turning serious.
"Alright, old man. Whatever you want, just say it. I guarantee I won't talk nonsense anymore. That should satisfy you, right?"
Hiruzen nodded, picked up his pipe again, and took a slow drag.
