The air in the royal suite was thick, a heady mixture of cedar, musk, and the faint, sweet scent of lilies that seemed to emanate from Selene's very skin. Moonlight bled through the heavy velvet curtains, casting the room in silver and shadow. On the expansive bed, Selene moved with a deliberate, agonizing slowness. She wasn't just adjusting to the sheer scale of Leo's presence; she was weaving a web of desire, piece by piece, strand by strand.
"Selene," Leo growled, the sound vibrating deep in his chest like distant thunder. His large, scarred hands- hands that had crushed skulls and commanded armies, now gripped her hips with a desperate, white-knuckled intensity. He tried to guide her, to force a rhythm that would sate the fire licking at his veins.
Selene leaned back, her silver hair cascading down her spine like a waterfall of moonlight, and she fought against his grip with a surprising, sinewy strength.
"No, Leo," she breathed, her voice a velvety command that brooked no argument. She sank down just a fraction of an inch further, relishing the way his breath hitched and his emerald eyes clouded with molten gold. "I'm in charge tonight."
Leo let out a pained, guttural groan as he felt her warmth envelop him completely. The sensation was overwhelming, a physical manifestation of a bond that was screaming for completion. "I don't enjoy the tease, little Lycan," he rasped, his voice rough as sandpaper.
Selene leaned forward until her chest pressed against his, her hands winding into the thick, dark hair at the nape of his neck. She tilted his head to the side, exposing the corded muscles of his throat, and whispered against his ear, her breath hot and teasing. "Well, get used to it and enjoy it, my King. Because you're in for a very long night." To punctuate her point, she nipped the sensitive skin of his neck, making him hiss in a mix of agony and ecstasy.
"I could just roll you over and take you myself, you know," Leo threatened, though the growl lacked its usual lethality. He was drowning in her, his senses flooded by her aura.
Selene tutted, a playful smirk dancing on her lips as she slowly lifted herself and sank back down. "No, you can't."
Leo's patience snapped. He gripped her waist, his muscles bunching to flip her beneath him, but before he could execute the move, Selene released her aura. It wasn't the soft, comforting glow she usually emitted. This was a pulse of pure, divine authority- the weight of a Goddess asserting herself.
In an instant, Leo's neck snapped to the side. His body went rigid, then slack, as the primal instinct to submit to a higher power overwhelmed his Alpha biology. He groaned- a sound of deep, conflicting pleasure. Male wolves, especially Alphas, were hardwired to loathe submission, but with Selene, it was a surrender that felt like coming home.
"Oh, you like that?" Selene whispered, her movements finally beginning to quicken.
"The people- " Leo gasped, his hands gripping her waist so hard he left faint marks. He was worried about the guards, about the palace, about the sheer magnitude of the power she was putting out.
"I'm only affecting you, Leo. Relax. I've been practicing," she said, her voice dropping to a seductive purr. She leaned down, capturing his lips in a searing kiss that tasted of hunger and unspoken promises.
The pace shifted from a tease to a frantic, rhythmic assault. Every movement hit the mark, sending electric shocks through both of them. Selene felt the familiar heat building in her core, a crescendo of white light that threatened to shatter her. She pulled her aura back as her legs began to shake, the climax hitting her with the force of a tidal wave.
The moment she went limp, Leo's submission broke. With a roar that shook the heavy oak doors of the chamber, he flipped them over. He didn't wait for her to recover. He moved with the terrifying, blurred speed of a Lycan, his movements a symphony of raw, unchecked lust. Sweat dripped from his brow as he turned her, lifting her onto all fours and plunging back into her with an aggression that made her squeal in delight.
"Oh, Leo," she gasped, her fingers clawing at the silk sheets.
"Fuck, Selene," he groaned, his voice cracking as he felt her walls tighten around him. He drove into her one last time, his entire body shuddering as he followed her into the abyss of their shared climax.
*~*~*~*~*
The transition was a nightmare of cold and silence.
Selene awoke not in the warm, cedar-scented embrace of her King, but in a room that felt sterile, wrong, and ancient. The air was thin and smelled of mountain pine and stale smoke. She sat up, the heavy comforter sliding down her naked body, revealing skin that still bore the faint, fading marks of Leo's touch. Her head throbbed, the last memory of the previous night- the rhythm of his heart against her back, feeling like a dream from another lifetime.
Outside the room, hushed yells and the metallic clash of weapons echoed. Selene wrapped the heavy, moth-eaten comforter around herself like a makeshift toga and stalked to the window. Outside, the world was a battlefield. She saw the familiar grey-green landscape of MoonShine territory.
"Where am I?" she whispered, her heart hammering against her ribs. "Leo... please be okay."
She found a dresser in the corner, her movements frantic as she threw open the drawers. They were filled with women's clothes- dainty, floral dresses that didn't suit her mood at all. She pulled on a simple linen dress, ignoring the lack of undergarments in favor of speed. Every second felt like a betrayal of the man she had left behind.
She went to the door and pulled. Locked. Solid oak.
Through the bond, she felt a sudden, violent surge of panic. It was Leo. He was close, and he was losing his mind. His rage was a black, oily thing that threatened to consume their link. Leo, I'm here, she thought, projecting every ounce of warmth and peace she could summon. I'm alive. Find me.
She didn't wait for a key. She channeled her frustration into her heel and kicked the door with a strength born of desperation. With a splintering crack, the wood gave way. Two guards outside jumped, their hands flying to their swords.
Selene didn't give them a chance to speak. She lunged forward, grabbing one guard by his collar and dragging him down to her height.
"Where am I and why am I here?" she growled, her voice vibrating with a power that made the guard's knees knock together.
"I... um..." the guard stuttered, his eyes wide with a terror that surpassed the fear of his Alpha. "You're in MoonShine, Luna. Nik... Alpha Nik came to get you while the King was occupied."
Selene's blood ran cold. The coward had taken her in the middle of the night, banking on the King's exhaustion.
"Where is that mutt?"
The guard stayed silent, his loyalty warring with the terrifying aura Selene was beginning to leak. Selene didn't have time for a debate. She released her aura in a concentrated burst, and the guard's head snapped to the side in an instant, his body trembling in forced submission.
"He's outside," the guard choked out. "Fighting for your hand."
"The other wolf isn't King Axe, is it?"
"No, ma'am. He's fighting... others. The King's army has just breached the valley."
"Don't follow me," Selene warned, releasing him. "Or I'll resort to things I won't regret."
She burst through the front doors of the pack house and stopped dead. The scene was a chaotic tapestry of blood, mud, and fur. Hundreds- no, thousands, of wolves were locked in a brutal melee. The scent of copper was overwhelming, hanging in the damp air like a shroud.
Her eyes scanned the field, landing on a pitch-black Lycan- larger and more terrifying than any other beast on the field. Leo. He was a force of nature, a whirlwind of claws and teeth.
Beside him, the Seven were a whirlwind of destruction, their unique powers carving paths through the enemy ranks. Kristie sat on a raised stone in the distance, her arms crossed, her face a mask of cold fury and disdain.
"Mine."
The growl came from her left. A dark brown wolf was stalking toward her, its eyes fixed on her throat with a possessive, sickening light. As it lunged to nuzzle her neck- to attempt to mark her by force while she was disoriented, Selene's patience evaporated.
"Shift. Now," she commanded, her aura hitting the wolf like a physical weight.
The wolf collapsed, shifting mid-air into a naked, panting Nik. He looked disheveled, his eyes bloodshot with obsession. "Selene, I did this for you!" he cried, his neck still bent in submission to her power. "I won't give up! I'll kill him! I'll kill them all to have you back!"
Selene looked at him, and for the first time, she used her gift to see his heart. It was a void. A stark, chilling 0% love. He didn't love her; he loved the idea of the power she represented. He loved the victory of stealing from a King.
"I told you, Nik. I rejected you," she hissed, her voice carrying over the din of battle.
The field went silent as she expanded her aura to its absolute limit. Every single wolf, every Lycan, even Leo in his fury, felt their necks snap to the side. The entire battlefield was forced into a horrifying, beautiful tableau of submission.
"Leo," she called out, her voice clear and resonant.
The black Lycan's ears perked. He took a step toward her, then another, his fur shimmering with the blood of his enemies. "Shift back to Leo, Phoenix."
The Lycan obeyed. Within seconds, Leo stood before her in his human form, naked and blood-splattered, his face etched with a mixture of relief and agonizing hunger. Selene looked him in the eye, her violet gaze burning with a sudden, fierce clarity. She knew what had to be done to end this madness once and for all.
"Mark me."
Leo froze, his breath hitching. "Is that what you truly want? Once I do it, there is no going back. Your divinity will anchor to this world, to me."
"Leo," she said, her aura flaring one last time, forcing him to bow his head. "Mark. Me."
He didn't hesitate again. He stepped forward, his eyes glowing gold, and elongated his fangs. He plunged them into the juncture of her neck and shoulder.
The world exploded.
Selene felt the fangs sink in, but instead of pain, there was a rush of absolute, blinding euphoria. It was better than any climax, a completion of the soul that made the physical world fall away. Her vision turned to white, and suddenly, they were no longer on the bloody grass of MoonShine.
They were floating in a realm of pure, unadulterated light.
A white, iridescent glow emitted from their joined bodies, pushing back the shadows of the world. As they ascended, Selene's aura was forced outward, releasing the wolves below so they could witness the birth of a True Queen.
"Took you long enough, Mjesec," a voice said- a voice that sounded like a thousand harps played at once.
Selene blinked. Surrounding them were beings of impossible beauty- neither man nor woman, dressed in flowing white, their eyes containing entire galaxies.
"Sunce," Selene whispered, the name coming to her naturally. "Venera. My family."
"You remember us," the being named Sunce said, nodding. "Then you know the price of the mark. You must choose, Mjesec."
Leo, still holding her, looked around in awe and terror. "What must she choose?"
"She can stay in your world," Venera spoke, her voice like silk. "She will live and die as a Lycan Goddess, tethered to your soul. When her time is over, she returns here forever, never to see Earth again. Or... she returns to us now. She can visit Earth, but only as a shadow- a hologram. She cannot be touched. She cannot lead. She can only observe and guide the fates of others."
Leo's grip on her tightened until it was almost painful. "If she leaves... what happens to me?"
"You will live out your days," Sunce sighed. "You will never have another fated mate. You must pick a chosen one to keep your line alive. And the White Wolves... they will become a myth. Extinct."
Selene looked at Leo. She saw the 300% love radiating from him, even in this celestial realm. She saw his fear, his devotion, and the way his soul was already intertwined with hers. She knew every secret of her fall now- the reason she had been sent to bring love back to a dying race.
"I have made my choice," Selene said, her voice echoing through the heavens.
*~*~*~*~*
As the pair hovered far up in the sky, Nik, back on the ground and fueled by a madness that ignored the divine display, commanded his wolves to try to attack.
"Kill him! Erase the mark before it's permanent!"
Arrows flew, and rocks were thrown, but they bounced off the white light with ease, like pebbles against a mountain. Nik turned to a blonde Alpha beside him- Jack, his eyes crazed. Both men wanted the same prize, and both were willing to burn the world to get it.
"I'll kill you first!" Nik roared at Jack, shifting back into his wolf.
The battlefield erupted into violence once more, a desperate, futile struggle beneath the feet of a Goddess making her decision. They didn't realize that the world they knew was already over.
