The chamber trembled violently beneath the assault outside.
Golden cracks spread slowly across the crystal ceiling while distant roars from Vaelthoros echoed through the Sanctuary at the Edge of Dawn like the end of creation itself.
But inside the Heart Chamber…
everything had become painfully still.
Luke stared at Celestia, his chest tightening with every passing second.
"What happens to me if I accept it?" he whispered again.
The Heart of Creation pulsed softly behind them, illuminating Celestia's sorrowful face with golden light.
For a moment, she said nothing.
And somehow…
that silence hurt more than any answer could have.
Finally, Celestia spoke.
"The Heart does not give power freely," she said quietly. "It transforms."
Luke swallowed hard.
"You would no longer remain entirely mortal… nor infernal… nor celestial."
The chamber dimmed slightly around them as the Heart responded to her words.
"You would become something creation has not seen since the age of the First Balance."
Luke's breathing became uneven.
"What exactly?"
Celestia stepped closer slowly.
"A living vessel of Balance itself."
The words echoed heavily through the chamber.
Luke stared at her silently.
Then quietly:
"Would I still be… me?"
That question shattered something inside her.
Celestia gently cupped his face with trembling hands.
"Yes," she whispered immediately. "Your heart will always remain yours."
But her eyes betrayed deeper fear.
Luke noticed.
"What aren't you telling me?"
Outside a crashing sound was heard.
The sanctuary shook so violently this time that part of the chamber wall fractured completely. Golden debris scattered across the floor while darkness briefly seeped through the cracks before the Heart forced it back again.
Vaelthoros was breaching the inner sanctuary.
Time was running out.
Celestia looked toward the collapsing walls briefly before turning back to Luke.
"The more connected you become to the Heart…" she whispered painfully, "the less tied you may become to ordinary existence."
Luke frowned slightly.
"I don't understand."
"You may outlive realms."
Silence.
"You may survive while stars die."
The Heart pulsed again.
"And one day…" her voice nearly broke, "you may be forced to watch people you love disappear while you remain."
Luke froze completely.
For the first time since entering the chamber…
the true weight of the Heart terrified him.
Not because of power.
Not because of destiny.
But because of loneliness.
The same loneliness he had seen hidden deep inside the Father of All's eyes sometimes.
The same loneliness ancient beings carried after surviving countless ages.
Luke looked down shakily.
"I don't want that…"
Celestia closed her eyes briefly.
"I know."
The chamber trembled harder again.
This time screams echoed faintly from outside.
The battle had reached the inner city.
Luke looked toward the chamber doors instinctively.
"Dad…"
Fear clawed into his chest immediately.
Lucien was out there fighting Vaelthoros.
The Spirit Guide too.
His grandmother.
The Sentinels.
Everyone was risking their lives for him right now.
And still…
he was afraid.
Luke clenched his fists tightly.
"I'm scared," he admitted quietly.
Celestia smiled sadly through tears.
"My little star…"
She pulled him gently into another embrace.
"Being afraid does not make you weak."
Luke buried his face against her shoulder again like a child desperate to stay in this moment forever.
"I don't want to lose anyone else," he whispered shakily.
Celestia held him tighter.
"You fight because you love," she whispered into his hair. "That is why the Heart chose you."
The chamber suddenly illuminated brighter than ever before.
The Heart of Creation was responding directly now.
Golden currents spiraled around Luke slowly, almost gently, as though waiting for his answer.
Then a new voice echoed across the chamber.
Ancient. Vast. Alive.
HEIR OF BALANCE.
Luke slowly pulled away from Celestia and turned toward the Heart.
The massive crystalline core pulsed like a cosmic heartbeat.
WILL YOU CARRY THE WEIGHT OF CREATION?
Luke's chest tightened painfully.
Outside the chamber, Vaelthoros roared loud enough to shake the sanctuary foundations apart.
A horrifying crack split through the chamber doors.
Dark primordial energy seeped inside instantly.
Celestia's expression changed immediately.
"No…"
The Heart brightened defensively.
But it was too late.
A massive claw of darkness burst partially through the chamber entrance.
Vaelthoros had reached the Heart Chamber.
Luke stumbled backward instinctively as the Primordial's countless hollow eyes appeared through the fractured doorway.
The creature laughed.
Not with joy.
With hunger.
"AT LAST…"
The Heart pulsed violently.
Golden energy clashed against primordial darkness across the chamber while reality itself began tearing apart around them.
Celestia immediately moved protectively in front of Luke despite being only a resonance echo.
"You must choose now!" she cried.
Luke stared between the Heart… and the approaching darkness.
His entire body trembled.
He was only seven years old.
A child.
Yet all creation now waited for his answer.
Then, through the chaos....
he heard Lucien's voice outside the chamber roaring in fury as infernal flames exploded against the Primordial.
He heard the Spirit Guide screaming battle commands.
The Sentinels falling.
The sanctuary collapsing.
And suddenly Luke realized something.
They weren't fighting because they believed he was perfect.
They were fighting because they believed he was worth protecting.
Slowly…
Luke looked toward the Heart of Creation.
Tears still shimmered in his eyes.
But beneath them now…
there was resolve.
He stepped forward.
"I don't want power," he whispered shakily.
The Heart pulsed softly.
"I just…"
Another violent impact shook the chamber.
Luke looked toward the collapsing doors where darkness tried to consume the light.
Then back toward Celestia.
And finally toward the Heart.
"I just want everyone to survive."
The chamber fell silent.
Then the Heart of Creation answered.
THEN YOU ARE WORTHY.
