Chapter 102 - Chapter 102 The Third Round

Chapter 102 The Third Round

In the second round of the Contest, Ash, just like in the first round, completely crushed his opponent and successfully advanced to the third round.

Gary and Giselle were also not to be outdone, both making it to the third round.

In the third round of the Contest, according to the rotation order of the fields, Ash entered the Ice Field, and his opponent was named Pete Pebbleman.

In this round, Ash's first Pokémon was the Ralts that had just hatched not long ago. Relying on its deep skill pool, it managed a 1-for-1 trade with Pete Pebbleman's Elite Wenxiang Frog.

In the second round, Pete Pebbleman sent out Cloyster.

Pokémon: Cloyster

Attribute: Water + Ice

Gender: Male

Level: Gym Beginner

Ability: Skill Link

Seeing his opponent send out a Gym Beginner Pokémon, Ash's mouth curved slightly: "I choose you, Tauros!"

His leader Tauros was a Gym Beginner before the special training, but now its strength has steadily advanced to Gym Advanced. Although its attribute doesn't have an advantage, its level completely overwhelms Cloyster.

"Tauros, use Thunderbolt!"

Tauros condensed electric energy on its two horns and unleashed a powerful Thunder Shock at Cloyster.

"Oh my! Ash's Tauros actually used an Electric-type move, Pete Pebbleman is in danger!"

The commentator shouted passionately into the microphone.

"Cloyster, hide in your shell, you must hold on!" Pete Pebbleman commanded somewhat flustered.

He originally thought Ash would command Tauros to use Tackle, but instead, it was a powerful Electric-type move. This was too devious.

He had never encountered this kind of play where an Normal-type Pokémon is sent out and immediately uses a powerful move of another type.

After all, Tauros is not an Electric-type Pokémon. Although Thunderbolt could somewhat restrain Cloyster, the damage was still limited, and it didn't defeat the opponent in one hit.

Seeing that his Pokémon still had the ability to fight, Pete Pebbleman quickly launched an attack: "Cloyster, use Ice Beam!"

"Tauros, don't give it a chance to breathe, Fire Blast!" Ash commanded again.

Tauros's Fire Blast not only dispersed the Ice Beam fired by Cloyster but also knocked Cloyster out with its eyes spinning in circles.

"Cloyster has lost its ability to battle. Please send out your next battling Pokémon, Pete Pebbleman." The referee on the side waved the flag to indicate.

"Damn it." Pete Pebbleman gritted his teeth and threw out his trump card Pokémon, "Go, Arcanine!"

Brock looked at the Arcanine with its smooth and shiny fur on the field and said, "The Fire-type Arcanine is also very well-trained. I wonder what Pokémon Ash will send out."

"Ice Field, Fire-type opponent, Ash should choose Blastoise," Misty said.

Pokémon: Arcanine

Attribute: Fire

Gender: Male

Level: Gym Intermediate

Ability: Flash Fire

"Do opponents in the third round already have this kind of strength? Or did I encounter a Elite Pokémon?" Ash was somewhat surprised by Arcanine's strength.

"Go, Jigglypuff!"

"Polei~"

Jigglypuff, holding a microphone, landed steadily on an ice pillar.

"Huh? Jigglypuff?! Is it really okay for Ash to be so reckless?" Misty was very confused about Ash sending Jigglypuff into battle.

"That Jigglypuff is not weak, but the opponent's Arcanine is also not to be trifled with. If this round is lost, Ash's Tauros might not be able to defeat Arcanine," Brock analyzed.

Trainers who can make it to the third round generally have strength. Brock admitted that most of Ash's Pokémon are very strong, but being so reckless truly has the possibility of an upset.

"Wow! Ash has sent out Jigglypuff. I wonder if Pete Pebbleman's Arcanine can take down Jigglypuff?"

"Arcanine, use Fire Blast!"

"Jigglypuff, quickly dodge."

Arcanine spit out a large character-shaped flame towards Jigglypuff. Jigglypuff took a deep breath, its entire body swelled up a circle, and then, with its small mouth pouted like a deflating balloon, it quickly moved out of the Fire Blast's attack range.

Jigglypuff's evasion method made everyone's eyes widen: "What kind of devious trick is this again?"

"Jigglypuff is a Balloon Pokémon. Its body structure is different from other Pokémon. It's very light," Ash bluffed.

In fact, he wasn't sure where Jigglypuff learned this trick, but it definitely had something to do with Team Rockets. Anyway, the principle might roughly be similar to a deflating balloon.

"Jigglypuff, play Arcanine's lullaby!"

"Bobululu bubolibu"

Jigglypuff stood on another ice pillar and began to sing.

Arcanine couldn't tolerate it at all. Its lower eyelids were fighting, and it only lasted less than three seconds before Arcanine began to snore in deep sleep. Not only Arcanine was affected, but Arcanine's Trainer, Pete Pebbleman, and even the referee on the sidelines also fell asleep.

Seeing Arcanine not giving him face, Jigglypuff, in a fit of pique, pulled out a pen and scribbled all over Arcanine's face.

This scene stunned the surrounding audience. Even the commentator was dumbfounded. They thought Ash was going to give up and were waiting to see Arcanine sweep through two Pokémon to end the battle, but it was knocked out in less than one song, and Jigglypuff could even draw on Arcanine's face. The most important thing was that the Trainer was also hypnotized, so even if Arcanine knew Sleep Talk, no one could give it commands.

The outcome of this battle was clear at a glance. Finally, under the announcement of the temporary referee, Ash won the third round and advanced to the next round, and the next battle field was the Grass Field.

During dinner, at a certain restaurant.

Brock said, "Ash, your arrangements today were too reckless. On the Ice Field, if Jigglypuff lost, Tauros might not have been able to consistently win against Arcanine."

"Brock, I know what you're worried about. Sending a Fire-type Pokémon to an Ice Field, that guy was aiming to change the field. In terms of moves, Tauros might not lose."

The moment Ash saw Arcanine, he knew what his opponent was thinking. If Arcanine wasn't fast and didn't have high burst damage, he would have even sent out Togepi to let the opponent witness what the Serene Grace ability was all about.

"After one more round, it will be a 6V6 battle. Ash, you should be more steady. Those who can pass three rounds of contests are generally not too weak," Misty also said.

"Don't worry, for the next battle on the Grass Field, I already know my opponent, so there's no problem," Ash said confidently.

Having read the original novel, he knew that for the next opponent, the only one he truly needed to guard against was the Bellsprout that understood how to use softness to overcome hardness. The other Beedrill and Scyther were trained very generally.

"Ash, I'm waiting to battle you, so don't mess up!"

Gary walked over to remind him.

"Gary, you're the one who needs to be careful. Your opponent tomorrow is not ordinary. It's a Rock Field, and your opponent is also skilled in Rock-type Pokémon."

Ash knew that in the original novel, Gary was too careless in the fourth round and was narrowly defeated by his opponent's Golem.

Gary snorted, "Hmph, you don't need to remind me. I've already prepared."

"I hope you really are prepared, otherwise our official battle might have to wait until the Silver Conference in the Johto region."

"Eh, Ash, you've already decided on your next travel region?"

Ash's words greatly surprised Misty and Brock.

"Not really, but among the recent Alliance Conferences in the major regions nearby, the closest one being held is the Silver Conference in the Johto region next year."

Ash still planned to visit the Orange Islands, after all, that Snorlax that could do the butterfly stroke was really appealing, and that Lapras was equally appealing.
