Fami clenched her fists, forcing herself into a fighting stance as tears welled in her eyes.
"I… I am the Hunger Devil, Fami! You poor soul being kept in the dark… I will save you!"
Cael almost laughed.
This girl had to be insane.
Calling herself the Hunger Devil? Then who the hell was his wife?
His gaze turned cold as he continued gathering power in his hand.
"Heh… Death Devil, not bad. Trying to lower my guard by acting weak?"
Devils were liars by nature. Trusting appearances was the fastest way to get killed.
Even if she looked pathetic, she was still one of the Four Horsemen. Her strength should be monstrous.
Cael didn't hesitate.
The charge completed.
Sizzle.
Primal, Dark, Withered Heart Piercing tore forward and ripped straight through her body.
"Eh?"
Fami didn't even react in time. She had just started to throw a punch, and then suddenly, there was a massive hole in her chest.
Her organs spilled out.
Her limbs collapsed, scattering across the ground without support.
The smell of blood filled the air.
"Aaaaaah!!!"
Her severed head screamed as it lay in a pool of blood, tears streaming down her face.
"It hurts! It hurts so much!!!"
Kobeni, watching from the side, nearly collapsed from fear.
Cael placed a hand on her shoulder.
"It's fine, Akai. I've got you."
But his eyes stayed locked on Fami's body.
Her severed limbs were wriggling across the ground like insects.
Not dead.
That wasn't surprising.
A Primal Devil wouldn't go down that easily.
Still… something felt off.
This fight wasn't matching his expectations at all.
Withered Heart Piercing could deal real damage, even to something like this. But this was supposed to be the Death Devil. The one tied to the apocalypse.
So why did she feel this weak?
Cael narrowed his eyes, observing carefully.
Fami's hand crawled toward a plant near the glass door and touched it.
Instantly, the plant withered.
At the same time, her body began regenerating at high speed.
In just seconds, she was whole again.
She grabbed a curtain and wrapped it around herself.
Her body could heal, her clothes couldn't.
"I… I figured out your attack…" she said, wiping her tears. "Come on… round two… this time I won't lose!"
She even made an awkward OK sign.
"Give me three seconds… I'll beat you…"
Cael took a step back, watching her carefully.
Was she serious?
The next second, she leaped forward and brought her leg down in a clumsy kick.
"Justice Execution!"
Cael exhaled slowly, snapped off a sharp piece of a nearby table, and met her attack.
A flash of blood.
Her body fell apart again.
"Eeeee!!! It hurts!!!"
She writhed on the ground, completely broken again.
Her fear was obvious now.
"H-hey! Can we talk this out?! I was wrong!"
Cael stepped forward and planted his foot on her body, pressing the sharpened wood toward her chest.
"What do you want?"
"I… I want to save humanity…"
The tip drove into her heart.
Blood sprayed out.
"Killing everyone is your idea of saving them? Stop bullshitting."
Fami cried harder, completely panicking.
"But I really am the Hunger Devil…"
Cael let out a short, irritated laugh.
"Still lying. You think I didn't see you drain that plant just now? You're not dying from these injuries. That means I haven't pushed you far enough."
He pressed the weapon deeper.
"If you won't talk, I'll keep going."
"No no no!!!"
She nearly lost control from fear.
"I can die! I really can! Please stop! I have four thousand yen hidden in my skirt! I'll give it all to you!"
"..."
Cael stared at her.
"My patience isn't unlimited."
Before he could continue, footsteps echoed from the stairwell.
Loud. Chaotic.
A massive crowd flooded onto the terrace.
Their eyes were empty. Their arms had twisted into blade-like flesh. They rushed forward with unnatural speed.
"What the hell?"
"Cael! Watch out!"
Kobeni swung a folding stool, knocking back two attackers.
Even with blood flying everywhere, the other people on the terrace sat still, drinking tea or scrolling their phones like nothing was happening.
That alone was disturbing.
Then the situation shifted again.
A burst of white mist exploded beside Cael.
A girl with short light purple hair appeared out of nowhere.
Fami.
She looked serious.
"Cael, Akai, this is a trap set by the Death Devil. I've already called my little sister for help. Until then, do not let those dolls touch you. If they do, you'll become one of them."
Her eyes moved to Kobeni.
"Especially you. You don't have Cael's ability to nullify things. Be careful."
Kobeni nodded, trembling.
The white haired Fami on the ground stared at the new arrival in shock.
"It's really you… big sister… you… you!!!"
The purple haired Fami looked down coldly.
"To think you'd go this far just to bring about the apocalypse. If you have even a shred of humanity left, then die already."
The dolls were already closing in.
Cael grabbed both of them.
"Hold on. We're cutting our way out."
Dark energy surged around his body, forming a vortex that covered them.
Then he charged straight into the swarm.
