Chapter 88 - 88: The Four Sisters’ Game

Pochita stared at Fami with a complex expression. Whenever she appeared, nothing good ever followed. Among the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, the only one who treated it kindly had been its fan, the Control Devil.

The War Devil sought revenge at every turn, while the Hunger Devil's attitude was ambiguous, a pleasure-seeker always chasing amusement. Their Eldest Sister, the Death Devil, remained the most mysterious and terrifying, a Transcendent who had never tasted death, her thoughts impossible to read.

The waiter arrived, stacking the table with desserts.

Makima's gaze darkened. "Persistent, aren't you, Hunger?"

Fami donned plastic gloves, sliced the cake, and stuffed it into her mouth. Her words were muffled but clear. "Since you didn't strike immediately, it seems little sister is in a good mood."

Her eyes pierced Makima's, scanning her soul.

Makima's cold snort came. "Whether it was the Eternal Devil at the izakaya or the jade pendant that sparked the conflict between Cael and War, it was all your doing."

"Mm, yes," Fami admitted, scraping food from the corner of her mouth without a second thought. She never wasted a crumb.

"But unfortunately, Cael's involvement foiled the plan. I didn't uncover anything about the Blackbeard Devil. Little sister, could it be a kin of the Darkness Devil?"

Makima's gaze remained icy. "Hunger, this is a warning. Lay a hand on Cael again and I will hunt you relentlessly. In the human world, I'll kill you. Reincarnated in Hell, I'll chase you there. Every time I see you, I'll kill you."

"Little sister is fierce…" Fami replied nonchalantly, picking up a cup of ice cream. "Why do you care so much about him?"

Makima's expression hardened with contempt. "This is love. A perverted devil like you, Hunger, wouldn't understand."

Fami lowered her eyes. "Devils don't understand love… but isn't little sister a devil too?"

Makima snorted sarcastically. "There are gaps even between devils. How could an idiot whose head is full of food understand love? I don't want to see you, Second Sister. Just finish eating and leave."

"Is that so?" Fami sucked the dessert crumbs from her finger. "Even if I don't understand love, it's clear Cael loves our Third Sister more than you."

After merging with the Justice Devil, Fami's words could pierce Makima's defenses effortlessly.

Makima's composure wavered. The War Devil's existence was a thorn in her heart. She knew too well how deeply Cael loved her. Night after night, the thought made her restless.

As Fami continued munching, the atmosphere thickened. Pochita sensed danger and leapt onto Makima's shoulder, whispering in her ear.

"Woof woof! Makima, don't listen to Hunger. War has the advantage by proximity. Stay proactive like last time and advance your bond with Cael. Problems will solve themselves."

Makima nodded slowly, agreeing inwardly. Once back in Tokyo, she would need a 'session' with Cael to prove her worth against War. For him, she had even executed a circle of Cabinet Ministers.

Fami downed a glass of ice water, eyes glinting. Seeing Makima's thoughts made her smirk. It was illogical… what magic did Cael wield? Two sisters with opposing personalities, yet both deeply enamored?

Should she involve herself? Fami's looks rivaled Makima's or Asa Mitaka's; her only flaw was her insatiable appetite—a trivial defect. Plans could wait. The focus was the Nostradamus Great Prophecy, preparing to eliminate their Eldest Sister, the Death Devil.

Calmly, Fami dropped a bombshell. "Little sister, I can make Cael yours alone. I can help you kill our Third Sister. Then Cael will belong to you forever."

Makima fell silent, interest piqued despite knowing Fami was lying. Pochita's heart raced—were these words humanly possible? No, a devil's logic.

Makima's eyes narrowed. "Hunger, last time you said you'd train Asa Mitaka into the king of war. Now you speak of this?"

"It's just lies. Third Sister didn't meet expectations; my last operation failed," Fami admitted.

"Heh," Makima sneered, "I will claim Cael fairly. I don't need help from a gutter devil like you."

"Don't be polite. I'm definitely helping," Fami said, finishing her seven desserts, head tilting elegantly. "Of the 30 prisoners verifying the Nostradamus Prophecy, 23 die next July when the King of Terror descends. The remaining 7…"

Fami fixed her gaze on Makima. "All will die within 7 days. Their killer? The first devil to lead the world into terror."

Seven o'clock.

Tamano, Tokyo.

A young couple lounged on the sofa, chatting happily.

"Yumi-chan, my boss says I might get a promotion next month!"

"Wow, Ito-kun!"

"Right? Promotion after only six months!"

"Mm-hmm. Does that mean a salary increase?"

Ito's excitement faltered. "Maybe… but more mysterious work might come. Such a pain."

"You'll get used to it."

"Hey, Yumi, if the salary rises, can I buy a car?"

"Ah?! No. Trains are fine!"

Ito nodded. "Insurance and maintenance costs… you're right."

The lights flickered. A pause.

Ito turned to Yumi, asking softly, "Do you think it would be better if we died?"

"Die? Okay then."

In unison, they opened the balcony door and jumped from the ninth floor.
