Chapter 40 - A Strange Dream II

I'm shivering, but my trembling hands are slick with sweat. That, combined with the irregular drumming of my heart and the jagged edge of my breathing, makes me wonder why the dream has left such a violent mark on my soul. 

It was only a replay of what I had read in this ancient, somber tome—the book Meg had insisted I start with.

The pages speak of a world before the Great Pact, a time of fragile truces that shattered as easily as glass. It chronicles the many wars between the diverse supernatural kingdoms, but the focus is primarily on the werewolves and the vampires. 

I've never understood why these two factions harbor such a bone-deep loathing for one another, but according to this author, they have fought the longest, the hardest, and the bloodiest. They have spilled oceans of gore over petty grievances—territory, resources, even a specific grove of trees.
