The guards looked at me without saying a word, none of them dated to.
"Leave" I ordered, my voice firm and controlled.
Maurice and The guards plus eery man who had crowded this corridor tonight with their torches and their radios and their collective inability to handle one woman without knocking her unconscious , all of them dismissed with a single look that left no room for hesitation or lingering.
They filed out without a word.
The cell door swung partially closed behind the last one, leaving the space in the kind of quiet that only existed when every person with a reason to perform had finally left the room.
