The question still hung in the air when he moved.
Slowly.
Deliberately.
Don stepped closer.
And just as his hand lifted...
My body reacted before my mind could catch up.
Instinct.
Pure, trained instinct.
My fingers moved beneath the soft line of my outfit, reaching into the concealed holster strapped against my thigh. The cold metal met my skin for a fraction of a second before it was in my hand. steady, loaded, aimed.
A gun.
Hidden where no one would think to look.
Because a woman like me?
Should never walk unarmed. Not in a world like this. Not around men like him.
The barrel lifted steady, aimed straight at his chest.
Right where his heart should be.
If he had one.
For a moment...
Nothing.
No one spoke.
No one moved.
Don didn't even flinch.
Not even a flicker of hesitation crossed his face.
If anything, he looked amused.
Unbothered.
Untouched.
Like the weapon pointed at him was nothing more than an inconvenience.
