Chapter 169 - Chapter 169: Conquering the Theatre of Dreams!

The celebration after the third goal was tight and intense, a release of pure adrenaline. Lorenzo sprinted toward the corner flag, and the rest of the squad came roaring in right behind him—Busquets leading the charge, as always, burying him in a massive hug.

"Give me those legs," Busquets shouted over the roar of the crowd, his arms locked around Lorenzo's shoulders. "Give me those feet! I'll swap you my tactical brain, and we'll both win the Champions League Golden Boot!"

Iniesta jogged up, a wry smirk on his face. "If you had his feet, Sergio, you'd still manage to lose possession within three touches."

"I'd lose it within one," Busquets shot back, entirely deadpan. "But trust me, it would be a very intelligent turnover."

Down on the touchline, David Moyes had completely turned his back on the pitch. He stood facing Steve Round, hands on his hips, his jaw tightly clenched as he tried to process the nightmare.

"We brought Fellaini on specifically to contain him, Steve," Moyes said, his voice flat, hollowed out by disbelief. "He completely unraveled him in under ten minutes."

Steve didn't answer. There was no tactical adjustments left to suggest, no magic whiteboard drawing that could fix this. What they had just witnessed in the eighteen-yard box wasn't a structural failure or a breakdown in communication — it was a player operating at a level that the structure had not been built to contain.

From the Ferguson Stand, the rhythmic clapping had changed. It was no longer directed at the dugout. It had become something more general — the sound of a crowd that has understood, collectively and simultaneously, that the evening is beyond rescue.

The remaining twenty-five minutes of the second half had the texture of a match that has already been decided but not yet finished. Manchester United pressed — they had to, the aggregate demanded it — but the connections between midfield and attack had dissolved. Carrick pushed higher, Fellaini sat deeper, and neither arrangement solved the central problem: Barcelona had the ball sixty-eight percent of the time and were in no hurry to give it back.

Hernández worked the channels. He was quick, direct, willing to run — but his frame was small and Mascherano read every diagonal before it arrived. Twice Kagawa found space on the left and delivered crosses that Piqué headed away without difficulty. Once Rooney dropped into midfield and hit a driven pass toward Hernández that Valdés came out to smother.

None of it threatened.

In the 78th minute, the match produced its final sequence.

Valdés gathered a Hernández effort that had bounced off Busquets and struck a long clearance deep into United's half. The ball arced toward the right side of midfield.

Carrick won the first header ahead of Iniesta but mistimed the direction — instead of reaching Rooney, it fell into a contested zone between the two squads.

Lorenzo and Fellaini both moved for it. The acceleration difference was instant — Lorenzo was half a body length ahead before Fellaini's feet had fully responded. The Belgian reached for Lorenzo's jersey, got a handful of fabric, and pulled. Lorenzo shrugged it off and leapt, flicking the header left with his neck.

Neymar collected on the left, having peeled away from Rafael's marking. He turned and drove at the United defence — Rafael chasing, Ferdinand shuffling across to cover.

The counter was live.

Lorenzo sprinted through the centre. Messi moved down the right. Three Barcelona attackers converging on two defenders and a goalkeeper.

Neymar didn't hesitate. He struck a low cross toward the penalty spot.

At the near post, Messi let it run — a dummy, his body shaping to shoot but his feet parting to let the ball pass through. Vidic, who had committed to block Messi's shot, was now facing the wrong direction.

Lorenzo arrived at the far post. De Gea came off his line — the correct decision, the only decision, closing the angle.

Lorenzo met the ball with his left instep and scooped it upward. A chip — delicate, precise, the contact barely audible. The ball lifted over De Gea's diving body, hung in the January air for a moment, and dropped into the net.

Fweet—!

4-0.

The away section erupted. The home crowd produced the sound of seventy-six thousand people watching in complete, resigned silence.

"HAT-TRICK!!" Santiago's voice cracked completely, his vocal cords straining under the sheer weight of history. "LORENZO HAS A HAT-TRICK AT OLD TRAFFORD!! A cheeky, delicate chip right over De Gea — his third of the night, his seventeenth in the Champions League this season! It is a four-nil at the Theatre of Dreams!"

Inés was already pulling up the data, her voice a mix of awe and analytical precision. "Think about how he got them, Santiago. The sixty-yard lob. The breathtaking penalty-box slalom that left four defenders chasing shadows. And now this — a chip with just enough feather-light contact to clear a keeper who actually did everything right. Three goals, three entirely different masterclasses in technique. He hasn't used the same finish twice."

Messi was the first to reach him. Instead of jumping on his back, he just stopped right in front of Lorenzo. He planted both hands firmly on the teenager's shoulders, looking him dead in the eye with a look of profound respect.

"I've played at Old Trafford quite a few times," Messi said, his voice carrying the weight of a man who had won Champions League finals on English soil. "Tonight was the single best individual performance I have ever seen on this pitch. And it wasn't mine."

Lorenzo held his captain's gaze, trying to keep his footing amidst the adrenaline. "Your dummy at the near post opened up the entire lane. That made the goal, Leo."

"The dummy made it look pretty," Messi countered, a genuine smile breaking across his face. "You would have found a way to score anyway."

Right on cue, Busquets sauntered into the frame, completely unfazed by the history being made around him. "Just so we're all on the same page, I won the ball in the build-up sequence. Again. Is anyone tracking this?"

"No," Messi said without missing a beat.

"Noted," Busquets muttered dryly, finally letting out a grin as he pulled them both into a huddle.

When the final whistle blew twelve minutes later.

Fweet—! Fweet—! Fweeeet—!

It felt like a mere formality. The contest had truly ended the moment the third goal hit the back of the net. The fourth was just the exclamation point on a night Old Trafford would never forget.

Manchester United 0 — Barcelona 4.

The Barcelona players gathered out in the center circle, trading tired embraces and low-fives. Near the technical areas, Martino met David Moyes. It was a brief, firm handshake — the unspoken kind shared between managers that says I respect what you're up against, without a single word needing to be muttered.

Up in the warmth of the VIP box, David Beckham stood up, his eyes fixed on the pitch as he began to clap. Victoria glanced over at him, noticing the look on his face.

"He hit it from the exact same spot," Beckham said softly, a nostalgic smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. "And then he went and did two more things on that pitch I never could have."

Outside, the freezing Manchester night began to truly settle over the stadium. The massive floodlights hummed, slowly dimming one by one. But long after the last of the heartbroken United fans had filtered out through the iron gates, the away section remained packed to the brim, their chants echoing into the dark.
