"I activate the Quick-Play Spell 'Amazoness Call'. When it's activated, I can add to my hand—or send to the Graveyard—one 'Amazoness' card from my Deck, except another 'Amazoness Call.'"
"I choose 'Amazoness Ambush'!"
"Amazoness Ambush?!" Kisaragi's pupils tightened.
Kaiba glanced sideways. "What's wrong with that card?"
"It's horrible for Jounouchi's Red-Eyes deck," Kisaragi said quietly. "Looks like Mai did her homework after losing to him."
Mai kept moving.
"Next, I Normal Summon 'Amazoness Princess' in Attack Position!"

"When this card is Normal or Special Summoned, I add an 'Amazoness' Spell/Trap from my Deck to my hand."
"I take 'Amazoness Secret Arts.'"
She set three cards in a neat line.
"I set three cards. End turn." (Hand: 3)
Jounouchi narrowed his eyes. "Only 1200 ATK on the field… but three face-downs. That's the problem."
"My turn. Draw!"
"I activate 'Red-Eyes Insight.' I send a 'Red-Eyes' monster from my hand or Deck to the Graveyard to add a 'Red-Eyes' Spell/Trap—except another 'Red-Eyes Insight'—to my hand."
"I send 'Red-Eyes Fang with Chain'—no, 'Red-Eyes'…" He clicked his tongue and corrected himself, staying in rhythm with his deck. "I send 'Red-Eyes' support to the Graveyard and add 'Red-Eyes Fusion!'"
Mai's expression didn't change.
Jounouchi slammed the card down.
"Now I activate 'Red-Eyes Fusion!' I Fusion Summon using materials from my hand, field, or Deck!"
"I send 'Red-Eyes Black Dragon' and 'Rocket Warrior'—Fusion Summon!"
"Come on out—'Red-Eyes Slash Dragon!'"
A black dragon in metal armor surged into existence, radiating pressure.

"Jounouchi brought out one of his ace monsters on turn one!" Honda blurted.
Mai finally moved—fast.
"I activate Trap 'Lost Wind.' Target one Special Summoned monster: its effects are negated, and its ATK becomes half its original!"
"I'm targeting Red-Eyes Slash Dragon."

"What?! You saw it coming?!" Jounouchi grit his teeth. "Fine—BATTLE!"
The instant he moved to declare an attack—
Mai cut in.
"During the Battle Phase… I activate Continuous Trap 'Amazoness Ambush!'"
A dense jungle erupted across her side of the field.
"This card lets me Special Summon an 'Amazoness' monster from my hand, and it gains 500 ATK until the end of the turn."
"Appear—'Amazoness Queen!'"
A blue-haired warrior queen emerged from the trees, seated on a throne, her massive blade planted in the ground.

"So she can drop a boss that easily…," Jounouchi muttered. "Even so, it's only bigger than me this turn!"
"Battle! Red-Eyes Slash Dragon attacks Amazoness Princess!"
Mai's eyes flicked up. "Jounouchi—while Amazoness Queen is on my field, my other 'Amazoness' monsters can't be destroyed by battle."
"Then I'll take the damage and keep swinging!" Jounouchi shot back.

Amazoness Princess caught the blow—yet a spear shot out from the jungle behind her, piercing Red-Eyes Slash Dragon. The armored dragon flickered… and vanished.
Jounouchi froze. "W-What the hell?!"
Kisaragi exhaled. "There it is."
Mai spoke like she was reading a verdict.
"Amazoness Ambush has a second effect: after damage calculation, if my 'Amazoness' monster battled, I can banish the opponent's monster."
"So every time I fight, my monsters get banished?!" Jounouchi's face tightened.
Yami Yugi's gaze sharpened. "That's brutal. Jounouchi's Red-Eyes wants its monsters in the Graveyard—banishment shuts off a lot of lines."
Shizuka hugged her arms. "Big brother…"
Jounouchi swallowed and set two cards with a forced calm.
"I set two cards… end turn." (Hand: 3)
Mai didn't blink.
"My turn. Draw."
"Battle. Amazoness Queen attacks you directly."
Jounouchi's eyes snapped wide. "Now?!"
Mai's jungle pulsed again.
"During the Battle Phase, Amazoness Ambush effect. I Special Summon 'Amazoness Fighter' from my hand, and it gains 500 ATK."
A blonde swordswoman stepped out—uncannily resembling Mai.
Amazoness Fighter (2200/300) → (2700/300)
"And its effect: it gains 100 ATK for each 'Amazoness' monster I control. I control three—so +300."
Amazoness Fighter (3000/300)
Jounouchi slammed his palm on his Duel Disk. "Then I chain—Quick-Play Spell 'Scapegoat!' I Special Summon four Sheep Tokens to block!"
Mai's voice stayed flat.
"You're still thinking like you're fighting fair."
"I activate Quick-Play Spell 'Amazoness Secret Arts.' It's a Fusion Spell for 'Amazoness.' I send Fusion materials from my hand/field to the Graveyard to Fusion Summon."
"I fuse Amazoness Queen and Amazoness Princess."
A shaman-like figure appeared, chanting. The Queen and Princess became light and merged—
"Fusion Summon—'Amazoness Empress!'"
A more imposing, priestess-like sovereign descended, her presence heavier than the wind at a thousand meters.

Mai's field count dropped by one, and she noted it immediately.
"Since I control one fewer 'Amazoness' monster, Amazoness Fighter loses 100 ATK."

Jounouchi stared at the board—banishment threat active, pressure in Battle Phase, and his own defensive line about to get tested.
"…So this is your answer to me, Mai," he muttered, jaw tight.
Mai didn't soften.
"Duelists don't need misunderstandings cleared up with words," she said. "We clear them up with results."
