"Fifty-fifty, huh?" Otogi muttered, watching the coin.
Dark Bakura lifted his hand.
Heads.
"HAHAHA! It's heads!" he crowed. "That means your Magician's Rod attack is negated—and you take damage equal to half its ATK!"
Magician's Rod froze mid-strike. A resentful spirit seeped out of the staff like black smoke, then slammed into Yami Yugi's chest.

"How can that be…?!" Anzu gasped.
"Tch." Yami Yugi clicked his tongue and set a card. "End my turn."(Cards in hand: 3)
Dark Bakura's grin sharpened.
"Yugi—at the end of this turn, I activate the effect of Dark Necrofear, the monster you destroyed!"
"What? That thing still has an effect?!" Yami Yugi's eyes widened.
"When Dark Necrofear is destroyed by your opponent, during the End Phase it can equip itself to one of your monsters. And the monster equipped becomes my servant—HAHAHA!"
"No way…!"
"I choose, of course—Trick Magician!"
A black grudge rose from Dark Bakura's Graveyard, wrapped around Trick Magician like a parasite, and yanked it across the field to Dark Bakura's side.
"So it steals a monster after being destroyed…?!" Anzu whispered, stunned.
"Don't be surprised yet," Dark Bakura said, almost purring. "My supernatural deck is only starting to bite."
"My turn. Draw!"
He slapped down a Continuous Trap.
"I activate Destiny Board!"
A grotesque board appeared on his field—letters A to Z and numbers laid out like a ritual tool. A pale hand hovered over it, guiding a planchette that scraped softly across the surface.
"Destiny Board…? What is that creepy thing?" Jounouchi asked, already uneasy.
"That's a tool often used in Western séances," Otogi explained.
"Séances?!" Jounouchi's face went stiff.
Shizuka tilted her head. "Like the coin-spirit game… the 'Charlie Charlie' kind of thing?"
"Exactly," Dark Bakura said with relish. "It's a device for communicating with spirits. The grudge of the dead drives the planchette, spelling out what it wants to say."
He leaned forward, eyes gleaming. "Watch closely—this turn, the first letter appears."
The planchette slid… and stopped on D. Blue-green flame erupted above the board, forming a floating letter.
D
"D…?" Yami Yugi murmured.
"Heh heh heh—oh, it won't stop at D." Dark Bakura's voice dropped to a taunting whisper. "At the end of each of your turns, more letters will appear: E, A, T, H."
"D… E… A… T… H…" Yami Yugi's gaze hardened. "DEATH."
"Correct!" Dark Bakura threw his arms wide. "When the message is complete—I win this duel! HAHAHA!"
Anzu went pale. "That means… Yugi only has four turns…?"
Dark Malik chuckled from the side, delighted. "So you're trying to win without even battling. Interesting."
Dark Bakura continued, savoring every second.
"Battle! Trick Magician—attack Magician's Rod!"
The stolen monster struck down Yami Yugi's staff.

"Tell me, Yugi," Dark Bakura hissed, "how does it feel to be beaten by your own monster?"
Yami Yugi didn't answer. His eyes were locked on Destiny Board—cold, calculating.
Dark Bakura set a card.
"I activate the Continuous Spell Second Chance!"
Then he placed one more card face-down.
"End my turn."(Cards in hand: 0)
"Bakura—during your End Phase, I activate Eternal Soul!"
A stone slab rose in front of Yami Yugi, carved with the silhouette of Dark Magician.
Kisaragi's eyes narrowed. "So he has that card now."
Kaiba's brow furrowed at the sight of the tablet. "That looks a lot like my True Light."
"Eternal Soul lets me Special Summon Dark Magician from my hand or Graveyard!" Yami Yugi declared.
Light flared from the stone—Dark Magician emerged in full glory.
Dark Magician (ATK 2500 / DEF 2100)
"Then I activate Magician's Rod in the Graveyard," Yami Yugi continued. "When I activate a Spell/Trap on my opponent's turn, I can Tribute a Spellcaster to add this card back to my hand!"
He tightened his fist.
"I Tribute Dark Magician… and return Magician's Rod to my hand!"
Dark Bakura's smile twitched. He wasn't expecting the sacrifice.
"My turn. Draw!"
"I Normal Summon Magician's Rod!"
Magician's Rod (ATK 1600 / DEF 100)
"On summon, I add a Spell/Trap that lists Dark Magician."
He revealed the card.
"I add Thousand Knives to my hand!"
"And now—Eternal Soul! Special Summon Dark Magician from the Graveyard!"
The stone tablet blazed again.
Dark Magician (ATK 2500 / DEF 2100)
Yami Yugi's mind raced.
I have to destroy the Field and Destiny Board. Bakura knows that. There's almost certainly a counter set… but my turns are limited. Even if it's a trap, I'll step on it.
He slammed down a spell.
"I activate Dark Magic Attack! Since I control Dark Magician, I destroy all Spell and Trap cards my opponent controls!"
"YES!" Jounouchi shouted. "Now he can't protect that board!"
Dark Magician lifted his staff; a wave of magic surged toward Bakura's backrow—
"Too naïve," Dark Bakura said softly. "Trap card—Dark Sacrifice!"
A curtain of black swallowed the spell.
"When you activate an effect that would destroy cards on the field, I negate that effect—then I send a Level 3 or lower DARK monster from my Deck to the Graveyard."
Dark Magic Attack fizzled out, completely erased.
"No—!" Yami Yugi's eyes flashed.
"I send Evil Spirit of Malice to the Graveyard," Dark Bakura continued, voice dripping with satisfaction. "A shame, Yugi. I can see your lines before you walk them."
Yami Yugi didn't stop.
"Then I activate Thousand Knives! Since I control Dark Magician, I destroy one monster you control. I target Trick Magician!"
Dark Magician swept his staff forward—dozens of spectral blades formed and shot across the duel field, impaling Trick Magician in a storm of steel.
Trick Magician was destroyed.
Dark Bakura's smile didn't fade.
Because Destiny Board still burned with its first letter.
