His lips curved into a thin, merciless smile as the understanding settled into his mind.
"If you want chaos," he murmured quietly as he stepped toward the control array, his voice steady despite the pressure building in the ancient chamber. "I'll give you chaos."
He placed his palm against the glowing runes.
This time there was no hesitation.
He did not force the formation.
He simply followed the knowledge that had been engraved into his consciousness moments ago.
The formation responded instantly.
Deep beneath the mountains, chains trembled.
Ancient sigils fractured slowly.
Seals that had endured for decades cracked open just enough to loosen their restraints.
Then the first roar tore across the Noct Vale Highlands.
The sound rolled through the mountains like a storm breaking open the sky.
Lucifer felt it through the stone beneath his boots.
Another roar followed by another roar even louder then the previous one.
Within seconds the entire mountain range began to stir as suppressed monsters awakened within their territories.
A rank presences erupted across the Highlands like dormant volcanoes finally releasing their pressure. Massive creatures long buried beneath runic restraints surged awake, their instincts feral after generations of confinement.
The Noct Vale Highlands screamed.
For one brief second Lucifer stood frozen as the magnitude of what he had done crashed into his mind.
Then panic struck him like a blade.
What have I done?
The thought flashed violently through his mind as his Perceive ability instinctively expanded across the formation network.
The answer appeared immediately.
Chaos.
Uncontrolled monster activity was spreading across the outer layers of the Highlands faster than he had predicted. Even though the seals had not been completely destroyed, the disturbance alone was enough to trigger widespread movement.
Primordium agents were still inside the mountain.
And now those monsters were awake.
Lucifer's heart began to pound.
Good.That was the whole point.
But that did not mean he could stay here.
If any of those monsters traced the disturbance back to the chamber, or if Primordium discovered the formation's eye, everything would collapse instantly.
Lucifer forced himself to breathe.
He had minutes at most.
"Pearl," he said sharply.
The monkey reacted instantly, scooping up the Spirit Pearl with surprising speed. Lucifer seized it from the creature and pressed his other hand against a different section of the platform where the emergency transport array had been embedded.
Caesar's memories surfaced clearly within his mind.
This formation had not only been designed as a control center.
It had also been designed as an escape route.
The Western Monarch had known that his descendants might one day reach this place. If the chamber was ever discovered by outsiders, they would need a way to escape without crossing the Highlands again.
So he had built a single directional emergency transportation array.
The exit point was fixed.
The outer graveyard of Noct Vale Town.
A place close enough to reach civilization, but far enough from the mountain to avoid pursuit.
Lucifer activated it immediately.
Space folded before him.
Stone dissolved around him as the formation expelled him from the chamber.
The world collapsed inward and then expanded again.
Cold night air struck his face.Lucifer staggered forward onto damp grass as the teleportation ended.
Gravestones leaned crookedly around him beneath a dim sky.
The graveyard outside Noct Vale Town.
His knees nearly buckled as the backlash from the formation rippled through his body. Activating such a large scale array immediately after destabilizing the mountain seals had placed tremendous strain on his core.
For several seconds he simply stood there, breathing hard.
Then survival instincts took over again.
He moved.
A man turned the corner of the path, cigarette dangling lazily from his lips as he stepped toward the graveyard gate.
The man never saw him clearly.
Lucifer struck once.
The body collapsed instantly.
Lucifer dragged him into a nearby alley and stripped the communicator from the man's coat pocket. A modulation card appeared in his hand, humming softly as it altered the pitch and tone of his voice.
When he spoke again his voice sounded completely different.
Higher.Panicked.Somewhat Feminine.
"D Duke Valcrest," he gasped into the communicator. "The beasts... demonic interference... containment has failed... please send help."
He ended the call before any response could arrive.
Then he dialed another number.
"Diego," Lucifer said calmly.
There was a brief pause.
"...Lucifer?"
"Buy the Seal of Silent Vigil," Lucifer replied quietly. "In half an hour at the same meeting place.Any price."
Diego did not ask questions.
"Understood."
Lucifer crushed the communicator in his palm and let the broken pieces fall into the gutter.
He moved again.
Another alley appeared ahead.
Another pedestrian walked alone beneath a dim streetlight.
Lucifer struck again.
Another communicator.
Another false emergency report.
This time the call went to a different contact.
Lucifer allowed a hint of panic into his voice again as he described demonic interference spreading through the Highlands.
The process repeated itself several times.
Lucifer deliberately spread the reports through multiple networks so that information about the disaster would propagate chaotically through the region.
By the time the authorities began to investigate properly, half the city would already believe the Highlands were experiencing a large scale demonic breach.
The monkey reappeared during the process and enthusiastically kicked one of the unconscious bodies as though assisting with the operation.
Lucifer glanced down at it.
"Later," he muttered.
The creature vanished back into the Soul Palace.
Minutes later Lucifer sat inside a quiet train carriage as the vehicle began moving away from Noct Vale Town.
Outside the windows distant alarms had already begun to echo from the direction of the mountains.
Lucifer leaned back slowly in his seat.
For the first time since triggering the formation, the tension inside his chest began to settle.
You want to hunt me?
Then learn what it means to fail.
The train moved forward through the darkness.
Lucifer sat alone in the carriage while the steady rhythm of steel wheels against rails vibrated beneath his boots. The late hour meant very few passengers traveled this route, leaving most of the seats empty.
Across from him the monkey sat chewing on a strip of dried meat with exaggerated concentration. Every few seconds it would pause and glance up at Lucifer with wide red eyes as if expecting a reaction.
Lucifer watched the creature quietly.
Primordium.
Some called it a heresy cult.
Others whispered it was a shadow church older than the current religious order.
Titles meant nothing.
What mattered was their objective.
They had chosen him.
Not to kill him.
Lucifer Obsidian Valcrest was far too valuable for that.
Second son of Duke Rowan Obsidian Valcrest.
One of the purest bloodlines in the Western Domain.
More importantly, he possessed a rare combination of soul compatibility and latent affinity.
Primordium specialized in creating vessels.
Hosts strong enough to contain demonic entities.
And Lucifer's body was ideal.
They intended to hollow him out.
To carve space within his soul.
For Dragoth The Whisperer.
One of the highest Demon Dukes.
Lucifer's fingers tightened slowly against the armrest.
In the game this had been a fixed event.
A tragedy that could not be avoided.
No matter the route.
No matter the player's choices.
Lucifer fell.
Corrupted and consumed by rage before the main arc even began.
He attacked the protagonists and died shortly afterward.
Lucifer remembered that scene vividly.
It was not rage that stayed in his memory.
It was fear. .... and guilt.
Anthony Parker had watched that scene through a screen.
Anthony Parker had been a good person.
Lucifer Obsidian Valcrest was not.
That difference mattered.
A quiet laugh escaped him before he suppressed it.
The monkey froze mid chew and tilted its head.
Lucifer reached forward and lifted the small creature with both hands.
The movement was unexpectedly gentle.
"Looks like you're stuck with me," he said quietly.
The monkey stared back.
"It's about time we get a name for you.Being my partner, having a cool name is a must."
Lucifer thought for a moment.
"How about shadow?"
The monkey shook its head.
"Null?"
Another shake.
Lucifer tried several more names.
Each time the creature rejected them with stubborn certainty.
Lucifer sighed and rubbed his temples.
"Fine. Since I found you in the Noct Vale Mountains... how about Nox."
The monkey blinked.
Lucifer raised an eyebrow.
"Nox Valcrest."
The monkey's eyes widened.
Then it nodded enthusiastically.
Lucifer sighed.
"Okay alright. No go to the palace to rest."
The creature vanished happily into the Soul Palace.
The warmth left the carriage immediately.
Lucifer's expression cooled again.
They're coming.
The train slowed as it approached the next station.
Lucifer stepped off onto the quiet street.
Diego stood beneath a flickering streetlamp wearing a perfectly tailored brown suit. His smile was polite.
His eyes were not.
Lucifer walked directly toward him.
Without speaking, he reached into his coat and placed a small crystal into Diego's palm.
A peak grade Origin crystal.
Diego stared at it.
His expression changed immediately.
Lucifer spoke calmly.
"Your reward."
Diego closed his fingers around the crystal slowly and nodded.
Lucifer quietly took the box in his hands, turned and walked away without another word.
Later, on a quieter street, Lucifer activated his own communicator.
Selena answered.
They spoke for a long time.
No extraordinary talk considering the history pressing between every pause.
When the call ended Lucifer stood silently for several seconds before lowering the device.
They're coming.
He once again took out a communicator of one of the people he has knocked unconscious .
Another phone rang shortly after.
Michael answered.
Lucifer did not soften his voice.
By the time the train doors closed behind him once again, his expression had settled into something terrifyingly calm.
Fate believed it had cornered him.
Lucifer intended to teach it the difference between inevitability and incompetence.
