Herta stood in the doorway of the lab, her small body trembling faintly with shock and fury.
Those violet eyes of hers were wide open, staring at the scene in front of her as if it were a nightmare that had crawled out of a textbook and learned how to breathe.
Wei Qing held a blade.
His left arm had been severed cleanly at the shoulder.
Golden light flowed at the stump—no blood spraying, no messy carnage—just that eerie, dignified radiance.
And Ruan Mei…
Ruan Mei—the one who was always calm, always restrained—was holding a specially prepared container with an expression so focused it was almost… hungry, as if she were about to receive a priceless specimen.
"Ruan Mei!" Herta's voice shot up, sharp enough to cut glass. "You… you two… what the hell are you doing?!"
She stomped in, eyes flicking between Wei Qing's missing arm and the container in Ruan Mei's hands, then locking onto Ruan Mei with murderous intensity.
"You've reached the point where you need live dismemberment for experimental material?!"
And then Herta did something even she didn't fully expect from herself.
She shoved herself in front of Wei Qing—tiny body, big attitude—like a furious guardian statue, glaring at Ruan Mei as though she were ready to start a war over ethics.
Sure, she didn't like this flashy "Pure Beauty" guy.
She'd never liked him.
But she also wasn't about to stand there and watch her research partner run a butcher shop in a private lab.
Because this scene was beyond absurd.
A "Pure Beauty Knight" voluntarily cutting off his own arm in a collaborator's lab…
And the collaborator not only not stopping him, but looking like she was about to accept it with open arms?
It screamed "something is very wrong."
"Herta," Ruan Mei began, trying to explain, "this isn't what you think—"
"Not what I think?!" Herta cut her off, pointing at the shoulder stump like it was evidence in a criminal trial. "Then what is this? Some new kind of performance art?!"
"Or is this your so-called 'Pure Beauty' sect's latest cultivation method—sever an arm to prove your resolve?!"
Wei Qing couldn't help it.
He let out a short laugh.
Herta whipped around and glared at him, her expression practically on fire.
"You're still laughing?! Are you out of your mind?! Were you controlled?!"
She actually stepped closer and tried to check his eyes, like she was looking for signs of hypnosis or mental corruption.
Wei Qing, quite cooperatively, lowered his head so she could see his face properly.
"Lady Herta," he said with faint amusement, "thank you for the concern. But this was voluntary."
"Voluntary?!" Herta's pitch climbed another octave.
She stared at him, then at Ruan Mei, then back at him, like her brain was trying to compute a math problem using pure spite.
"Voluntary amputation so she can study you?! Dian Dao, did she feed you some kind of brain-melting tea?!"
"You were so 'principled' when I invited you, and now you're being led around by Ruan Mei like this?!"
Then Herta spun back to Ruan Mei, fully entering "judgment day" mode.
"Ruan Mei! I really didn't think you could go this far for research!"
"When did you become this kind of person?! Put his arm back! Right now! Immediately! This instant!"
Ruan Mei exhaled quietly and placed the container on the workbench with care.
She knew that if she didn't explain this cleanly, Herta would tear the lab apart out of principle and pure indignation.
"Herta," she said, voice steady, "calm down."
"Dian Dao's situation is… special. His recovery ability is beyond what you're imagining."
But halfway through her sentence, Ruan Mei stopped.
Because Wei Qing had made it clear he preferred keeping certain things hidden from Herta.
For now.
So she paused—and silently handed the decision back to him.
"Oh?" Herta's eyes narrowed. "So you're suddenly quiet? You can't explain?"
She scoffed, but the fury in her face was already being invaded by something more dangerous.
Curiosity.
"Fine. Then tell me—what did you discover that's worth using this kind of… insane method?"
She jerked her chin toward Wei Qing, suspicion unwavering.
"And don't tell me you're going to claim he's 'fine' just because he looks shiny."
Wei Qing sighed.
He could feel it—if he kept dodging, Herta would escalate until the entire Luofu noticed.
He stepped forward, standing beside Ruan Mei.
"Herta," he said calmly, "Ruan Mei didn't force me. She didn't use any 'evil methods.'"
"This really was my decision."
Herta crossed her arms, chin lifted, eyes sharp.
"Your decision? Great."
"Then explain to me why a sane person would choose to chop off his own arm for someone else's research."
"Unless you can prove that losing an arm to you is about as meaningful as trimming a fingernail!"
Wei Qing smiled slightly.
"Proof?"
"That's easy."
Before the last word fully left his mouth, the golden light at the shoulder stump flared—then shifted, becoming brighter, warmer, and unmistakably alive.
The aura of Abundance wrapped around the wound.
In Herta's stunned gaze, flesh and bone began to grow.
Not slowly.
Not gradually.
It was violent biology—life accelerating into a miracle.
In the span of a breath, muscle knitted, bone formed, skin smoothed—
And an entirely intact left arm returned to his shoulder as if it had never been missing.
Wei Qing flexed his fingers.
Joints clicked cleanly.
He rotated the wrist once, casually, like he'd just tested a new glove.
"Now," he asked lightly, looking at Herta, "do you believe me?"
Herta's mouth hung open.
For a full second, she looked like her entire worldview had been slapped, folded, and shoved into a drawer.
"That… that's…" she whispered, eyes glued to the arm. "Abundance?"
Then something snapped into place in her mind—fast, sharp, and horrifyingly coherent.
Golden blood.
Abundance regeneration.
And the way that aura felt…
Herta's pupils contracted.
Her gaze shot up to Wei Qing's face like a weapon locking onto a target.
"…Wait."
"…No."
"…You—"
Her voice rose, trembling between rage and vindication.
"You filthy 'Pure Beauty' brat—"
"You're Qingzhou!"
