Wei Qing paused for a beat, then laughed softly.
"A wandering patrol ranger, huh? That honestly sounds pretty nice."
"At the very least, it beats being locked inside the General's Manor reviewing paperwork."
In the end, he exhaled lightly, brushing aside the unrealistic daydream. "There's no such thing as 'if.' Since I've reached this point, I'll just keep walking forward."
"Jingliu."
"Let me give you one last gift."
A flicker of surprise crossed Jingliu's eyes. Her cool expression tightened, brows drawing together. "A gift? Why all of a sudden…?"
To her, if anything, it should have been the other way around—she ought to be the one preparing something for him now.
Before she could finish, a pinpoint of green light condensed at Wei Qing's fingertips—so fine it was almost imperceptible. It didn't feel like ordinary Abundance power, overflowing with vigorous vitality; instead it was restrained to the extreme, quiet and inward.
He didn't touch Jingliu. He merely guided that speck of green radiance toward the center of her brow.
It sank in like a seed falling into a still lake.
Jingliu felt something in her sword-heart—an invisible film that had bound it for a long, long time—loosen ever so slightly.
"…What is this?" She lifted a hand to her brow. Warmth lingered there.
"A belated thank-you," Wei Qing said with an easy smile, as if he'd casually tossed her an unremarkable pebble. "For the sword you gave me back then."
"Maybe it'll make the road ahead… a little smoother."
Jingliu froze.
For once, real astonishment surfaced plainly on her face.
She could clearly sense that what entered her wasn't a simple infusion of strength—it was something deeper, a kind of harmonizing adjustment.
For ages, the mara signs hidden in her blood—like a bone-deep parasite, growing more restless with time—had always been there, threatening to rise.
Now, it was as if a gentle hand had smoothed it down.
Not erased. That would have been nearly impossible.
But the madness that constantly tried to tear her reason apart had quieted, replaced by a calm she couldn't properly describe.
"…You think I'm old, too, don't you?"
The gift was heavy, but Jingliu asked a strangely offbeat question.
Wei Qing blinked—and then he couldn't help laughing.
He looked at her still-cool face, and yet in those eyes there was the faintest trace of mischief—so subtle it almost felt like an illusion.
Star Calendar 7298, July 5.
A date destined to be recorded in history.
Today was the day of the Luofu's new general's succession ceremony.
The ritual was held at the Seat of Divine Foresight.
By now, the plaza and even the surrounding airspace were packed with solemn, immense crowds.
Every notable figure on the Luofu, envoys from every corner of the Alliance, representatives of countless factions—all had gathered here. Lines of Cloud Knights stood in disciplined formation, armor polished and bright.
General Teng Xiao wore his most formal ceremonial battle dress, standing atop the platform with a stern expression, waiting for his successor to arrive.
The auspicious hour had come.
Bell tones rang out—long, resonant, and clear—spreading in all directions, brushing across layered palaces and countless upturned faces. The commotion in the plaza gradually stilled.
Under the gaze of ten thousand eyes, Wei Qing walked out at a steady pace.
He wasn't wearing an ornate general's robe. Instead, he wore a simple, fitted dark uniform—clean lines, sharp posture.
Those eyes that usually carried a hint of lazy humor were now deep and still, like an unfathomable pool.
Step by step, he ascended the platform and stopped before Teng Xiao and the Alliance's appointed envoy.
Teng Xiao looked at the successor he had trained with his own hands, unmistakable pride flashing in his eyes.
He drew a breath and spoke like a thunderclap, his voice rolling across the square:
"By order of the Xianzhou Alliance Marshal, and witnessed by the Reignbow Arbiter—today, the former Luofu General Teng Xiao retires with merit fulfilled! And I hereby recommend the hero Wei Qing to succeed the position of Luofu General!"
"Wei Qing's merits are outstanding, his strength unrivaled, his heart tied to the Luofu—he is fully worthy of this duty!"
The envoy stepped forward, unfurling a decree that gleamed with gold light, and read aloud:
"…The petition of Teng Xiao is hereby approved. Wei Qing is granted the office of Luofu General, to oversee all military and civil affairs of the Luofu. May you uphold your duties, safeguard this realm, and never betray the trust of the Alliance—nor the expectations of the Reignbow."
When the proclamation ended, Teng Xiao solemnly presented the tiger tally and seal of office—the symbols of the Luofu General's authority—into Wei Qing's hands.
The entire plaza fell silent.
All eyes converged on today's central figure.
No matter whether they were locals of the Luofu or visiting dignitaries, almost no one here was unfamiliar with Wei Qing.
As the Alliance's eighth Emanator of the Hunt, even before becoming one of the Reignbow's Seven Arbiter-Generals, his name was already widely known.
And not long ago, he had accomplished something unprecedented.
He was the only Emanator in existence walking two Paths at once—the Hunt and the Abundance.
Wei Qing's gaze swept the crowd.
He saw many familiar faces.
Friends who were genuinely happy for him, eyes full of relief and congratulations.
He also saw Herta and Ruan Mei—both members of the Genius Society—rarely present in person. Herta looked impatient, as if thinking, Hurry up and finish so we can get to work. Ruan Mei remained quiet, watching with her usual calm, observant composure.
At last, Wei Qing's eyes returned to the present.
The tiger tally and seal—heavy with meaning—rested in Teng Xiao's palms, waiting.
"Wei Qing," Teng Xiao said, his voice carrying both expectation and gravity, pushing the symbols forward another fraction. "I hope you will continue the Luofu's glory."
Every gaze locked onto the hand that was about to accept authority.
A changing of eras.
The opening of a new chapter.
Wei Qing took them gently—his face solemn.
"From this moment onward, the office of Luofu General is formally passed to Wei Qing!"
Cheers exploded like a tidal wave, surging into the sky.
"For the Xianzhou!"
"For the Luofu!"
In that very instant—especially after the recent purge of one of the Alliance's greatest enemies, the Abundance Emanator Shuhu—the world watched with fervent anticipation.
And under that collective expectation, the Hunt cast its gaze down.
No one was shocked.
This was what every Arbiter-General of the Reignbow was meant to receive.
What people truly wondered was this:
Wei Qing was already an Emanator of the Hunt. Now, with renewed favor—how far would he walk along the Path of the Hunt?
Could he one day reach the Marshal's level?
No one knew the answer.
But everyone was waiting to find out.
