**354 Days Until the Trial Gates Open**
The medical bay aboard the *Argonaut* had never been so heavily guarded.
Two Federation Marines stood outside the sealed doors, while another squad secured the corridor leading to the intensive care unit.
Not because Lyra was considered dangerous.
Because she might be the most important person Humanity had ever met.
---
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Hannah Mercer finished another scan before looking toward Captain Rolf.
"Physically, she'll recover."
Rolf let out a quiet breath.
"And the bad news?"
Mercer hesitated.
"She's been in cryogenic suspension for at least..."
She checked the readings again.
"...eight hundred and sixty-three years."
The room fell silent.
Leon frowned.
"That's impossible."
"No."
Flint answered quietly.
"It's advanced."
---
Mercer continued.
"Her body has suffered severe muscle degradation, but whoever built that cryogenic system understood cellular preservation far better than we do."
She looked at another display.
"Frankly..."
"I'm amazed she's alive."
---
Lyra slept peacefully.
Without the emergency lighting of the alien vessel, everyone could see her clearly.
She looked almost human.
Slightly taller than average.
Graceful features.
Pale blue skin.
Silver-white hair.
The only obvious difference was a series of faint crystalline markings beneath her eyes that glowed softly whenever the medical scanners passed over them.
---
Rika stood beside the bed.
"It's strange."
"What is?"
"She doesn't feel..."
Rika searched for the right words.
"...alien."
Leon nodded.
"I was thinking the same thing."
---
Flint was far more interested in the crystalline cube Lyra had handed Leon.
It now rested inside one of the ship's secure laboratories.
No matter what equipment they used, the cube refused to open.
"It's not encrypted."
Flint muttered.
"It simply isn't responding."
---
Leon picked it up.
The moment his fingers touched its surface...
The cube glowed.
Everyone in the laboratory froze.
"It recognizes you."
Rika whispered.
The cube unfolded.
Not mechanically.
The crystal itself flowed apart like liquid glass.
A three-dimensional projection appeared above it.
Stars.
Galaxies.
Ancient symbols.
Then—
A woman materialized.
She wasn't Lyra.
She appeared much older.
She wore robes of deep blue trimmed with silver, and behind her shimmered an enormous library stretching beyond sight.
The recording began.
---
"If you are seeing this..."
"My name is **High Archivist Selene**."
"I speak to those who have inherited our final hope."
The projection slowly turned.
"We were the **Asteri Concord**."
"For over forty thousand years, we preserved knowledge."
Images appeared around her.
Magnificent cities orbiting suns.
Living libraries.
Great universities spanning entire moons.
"We believed understanding would unite the stars."
Her expression darkened.
"We were wrong."
---
The image changed.
Silver warships.
Ascendancy fleets.
Fire.
Planets burning.
"We opposed the Judgment."
"We hid civilizations."
"We preserved forbidden history."
"The Tribunal declared us enemies."
Leon quietly clenched his fists.
---
Selene continued.
"The Keeper was once one of us."
Every person in the room looked at the projection.
Flint spoke first.
"...What?"
"The Keeper..."
Selene smiled sadly.
"...was never a machine."
---
A younger figure appeared beside her.
The same calm face.
The same kind eyes.
Only this version was unmistakably organic.
The Keeper had once been flesh and blood.
"He chose to abandon mortality."
"To guard the Graveyard."
"So that the stories of the fallen would never disappear."
---
Leon looked toward Flint.
"So that's why the Keeper called it a museum."
Flint nodded slowly.
"He isn't protecting ruins."
"He's protecting memory."
---
The recording continued.
"If Humanity has received this archive..."
"Then Helix succeeded."
"They chose well."
Rika frowned.
"Helix knew the Asteri?"
"They must have."
Flint answered.
"They were working together."
---
Another image appeared.
The Helix civilization.
Not as conquerors.
Not as experimenters.
Scientists.
Teachers.
Explorers.
Laughing with Asteri scholars.
Working beside them.
Building together.
"They resisted the Tribunal until the very end."
Selene said softly.
"Their sacrifice gave younger civilizations..."
She looked directly toward Leon.
"...one final chance."
---
The recording paused.
The crystal rotated.
Then displayed a star map.
One system glowed brightly.
Another symbol appeared beside it.
**ARCHIVE PRIME**
---
Flint immediately began recording the coordinates.
Leon looked up.
"What is Archive Prime?"
Selene answered.
"Our greatest repository."
"It contains the collected knowledge of hundreds of civilizations."
"If it still survives..."
Her expression became hopeful.
"...Humanity will not face the Trial alone."
---
The recording flickered.
Power was running low.
Selene's image became unstable.
"There is one final warning."
"The Tribunal is not your greatest enemy."
Every person in the room froze.
"The Judgment exists because something..."
Static distorted the message.
"...is coming."
More interference.
"The Ascendancy fears..."
The recording broke apart.
Only fragments remained.
"...beyond..."
"...the Outer Dark..."
"...do not awaken..."
The image disappeared.
The crystal folded back into its original shape.
Silence filled the laboratory.
---
Captain Rolf slowly sat down.
"So everything we've fought..."
He looked around the room.
"...has only been preparation?"
No one answered.
Because no one wanted to believe it.
---
Elsewhere...
Lyra finally opened her eyes.
She stared at the unfamiliar ceiling of the medical bay.
The sounds.
The gravity.
The smell of recycled air.
Everything was different.
She slowly turned her head.
Leon was sitting nearby, asleep in a chair after refusing to leave her bedside.
She watched him quietly.
Then smiled faintly.
"So..."
She whispered.
"Helix really did find you."
Leon stirred awake.
He blinked in surprise.
"You're awake."
Lyra nodded weakly.
"Where am I?"
"On the Earth Federation ship *Argonaut*."
She looked confused.
"Earth..."
She repeated the unfamiliar name.
"...You're farther from the Core than I imagined."
Leon smiled.
"We've got a lot of questions."
A tired laugh escaped her.
"So do I."
She looked out the nearby observation window.
The Sun shone brightly in the distance.
For a long moment she simply stared.
"I never thought..."
Her voice cracked with emotion.
"...I'd see another living civilization."
Leon followed her gaze.
"Welcome to Humanity."
Tears formed in Lyra's eyes.
"Thank you..."
She whispered.
"...for finding me."
Far beyond Neptune, hidden among drifting debris, the ancient beacon that had reported Lyra's rescue finally received a reply.
Not from the Ascendancy.
Not from the Keeper.
But from somewhere even farther beyond the known stars.
A single transmission echoed across the void.
**Archive Prime acknowledges Humanity.**
**Access request accepted.**
The route to the greatest library in the history of the galaxy had just opened.
