Chapter 161 - Chapter 161: People Waiting in Anticipation

Furina was quite satisfied with the aliases her children had received. She didn't have many complaints.

Besides, she knew there would be opportunities to change them after future level-ups.

Regardless, compared to the tragic "Bushin Boy" inflicted upon the kid from the Takemikazuchi Familia, her children were incredibly lucky.

.....

Meanwhile, at the Guild Headquarters in the Pantheon.

While the Denatus was in full swing, the atmosphere inside the Guild offices was unusually grim.

"Is it just me, or does everyone look… murderous?"

"I don't think that's it… probably…"

Misha whispered into Eina's pointed elf ears, and Eina replied in an equally hushed tone.

They weren't in their usual front-desk lobby, but in a back office filled with several desks. The spacious room was uncharacteristically silent, a suffocating tension hanging thick in the air.

"Tulle, are you listening?"

"Ah—y-yes! Sorry, Chief."

Hearing her name called, Eina snapped back to reality. Beside her, Misha stood at attention like a cat whose tail had just been stepped on.

Sitting at the desk before them was a burly beastman. He held several pages of Eina's reports in one hand, staring at her with eyes that were almost chillingly calm.

"I will repeat myself. The Focalors Familia's adventuring logs are absolutely not to be released to the public. Their experiences aren't 'adventures'—they are blatant suicide missions for anyone else. Therefore, the Focalors Familia will not be published as a model case for growth for the time being."

"T-That makes sense…" Eina nodded in complete agreement.

Aiden and his party's adventuring records were simply too absurd. Their tactical maneuvers were practically inhuman. If some hard-headed rookie adventurer actually tried to mimic them, it would literally be a textbook case of "try it and die." There wouldn't even be ashes left to bury.

"Next is Flott," the beastman said, shifting his sharp gaze to the pink-haired girl.

"Eep! Yes!" Misha jolted.

"…The documents you submitted to the Denatus this time were incredibly poorly done. Especially the section regarding the Focalors Familia."

"C-Chief—!" Misha's face instantly crumbled as she tried to defend herself. "Their level-up applications were rushed! I didn't have enough time! I worked really hard at the last second, I swear! Please don't say I was slacking off—!"

"It's not that I don't understand your difficulties… but overall, it was still far too sloppy. You were slacking." The Chief's voice carried no trace of sympathy. "If the gods come to the Guild to complain about this, Flott, you will have to deal with them yourself. I can't help you there."

"Waaaah! Eina—!"

Misha let out a tragic wail, burying her teary face into Eina's well-endowed chest to seek comfort.

"You're both dismissed," the Chief ordered coldly.

The two girls fled the office as if their lives depended on it. Instead of heading straight back to the lobby, they navigated a familiar route to the breakroom tucked in the corner of the building.

Operating the familiar magic stone device, two steaming cups of black tea were ready in an instant.

"Ugh, the Focalors Familia really knows how to cause trouble for me…" Misha complained, pouting over her teacup.

"That doesn't really have anything to do with them, does it? You're the one who was slacking off, Misha. I even warned you," Eina sighed, mercilessly exposing her friend's excuse.

"I can't hear you! I can't hear anything—! La la la—!"

Misha immediately spun around, turning her petite back to Eina, leaving the half-elf not knowing whether to laugh or cry. Her peach-pink hair bounced as she hunched over slightly, taking small, defiant sips of her tea.

Seeing her friend act with the exact same shamelessness she had back in the School District brought a wry smile to Eina's face.

"Changing the subject," Misha muttered softly. "I still feel like the Chief and everyone else can't calm down. They look so restless—"

"Yeah, it is definitely different from usual…"

Peeking into the office from the breakroom, the crowd was indeed lacking its usual composure. Many of the normally unflappable staff members were pacing back and forth. Those sitting at their desks kept glancing up at the clock on the wall. The usual scratch-scratch of quill pens on parchment was completely absent.

Truth be told, Eina and Misha vaguely knew why the office felt this way.

"It's past three in the afternoon… The Denatus should be over by now, right?"

"Probably. I imagine they've already sent someone over with the results…"

It was a familiar scene. Whenever a Denatus concluded, the Guild staff would act exactly like this.

At this very moment, the only thing everyone cared about was the freshly baked aliases of the newly leveled-up adventurers. The titles bestowed by the gods always managed to awe the mortals of the lower world. Whether they were undeniably badass or instances of complete social death, everyone craned their necks in anticipation of the Denatus results, acting as if it personally affected them.

Even our strict bosses can't sit still right now? Eina and Misha, who usually watched the adventurers put on this exact same show in the lobby, found the thought amusing. From top to bottom, the entire Guild was just waiting to eat popcorn and enjoy the drama.

"Are you curious too, Eina? Want to know what kind of aliases they got?"

"Me? …Well, yeah. I guess I'm a little curious this time."

"Right? Me too! After all, the adventurers you're in charge of leveled up, so it's only natural you'd want to know."

Just as their conversation picked up, a sudden bang echoed through the room.

The sound of the office door being violently thrown open caused everyone to snap their heads around in unison. Standing in the doorway was a panting, sweat-drenched staff member holding a stack of documents high in the air.

"They're here! The Denatus results are here!" he shouted with all his might.

"Finally!"

"Hey, let us see!"

They moved like lightning.

The staff members who had been feigning composure just a second ago abandoned their duties and practically trampled each other to swarm the door. A dense circle quickly formed, and several parchment sheets detailing the aliases were rapidly passed around.

Soon, gasps of awe and explosive laughter echoed throughout the office.

"Hey, look at this one! [Dark Flame Master]… I'm getting goosebumps!"

"Oh man, that's so strong… As expected of the gods. Us mortals could never come up with a name so edgy… ahem, so cool."

"Yeah, there really is a world of difference between gods and men."

"Look at this! Ouka from the Takemikazuchi Familia got [Bushin Boy]! Hahaha, that's too tragic!"

"Incredible. That's just a public execution. Total social death."

The atmosphere in the Guild Headquarters heated up, largely driven by the male staff. Perhaps sharing a common, questionable taste, they bonded over the names. Even Eina's boss had quietly slipped into the crowd, clicking his tongue in amazement at the titles.

At some point, female employees from other departments had rushed over, screaming in delight as they saw the handsome adventurers they supported receive respectable aliases.

Hearing the cheers, Misha, who had been completely left out of the circle, finally snapped out of her daze.

"W-We're a step behind… Let's go, Eina!"

"R-Right!"

Misha grabbed Eina's hand and sprinted toward the crowd. Watching Misha weave through the wall of people like a loach until she finally snatched a list from a male colleague's hands, Eina couldn't help but picture Aiden and his party.

God, please don't let their aliases be too embarrassing… The mere thought of a title so cringeworthy that it could make her curl her toes in secondhand embarrassment made her heart race with anxiety.
