There was something in the way Dylan asked her that.
His voice was laced with a familiar warmth and longing, as if it were only natural for him to ask her that on a warm evening like this.
It gave off a pure, homely vibe —the kind that felt good, comforting even, but one Adelyn had never really had.
Her breath hitched, and her face flushed slightly as she tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, humming softly.
"Mhm … I'm home. Have you been waiting for long, Mr. Warren?"
Dylan didn't answer immediately. It was as if something in her words had caught him off guard. Then, after a brief pause, he shook his head.
"No … waiting for you has never been long."
The way his gaze lingered on her as he said those words made Adelyn feel, for a second, as if the seemingly simple words carried a much deeper meaning.
However, when she thought about it again, she couldn't help but chide herself.
What could be so deep about it?
She was overthinking it again.
