Chapter 34 - Moving Forward

The mother and son made a last stop by a prestigious library just located at some junction. They requested for some books and a shelf for Moonlight. When they returned, Febia welcomed them softly before making some huge complaint about a certain animal.

Moonlight did not like his return as he figured out Cloud had already gone to school and wasn't coming back anytime soon.

Second, Febia and Phoenix had a slight argument involving the rowl Moonlight brought into the house. Febia stood for the motion that the Rowl should leave, be killed or be taken back to where it came from while Phoenix stood for the motion that the rowl should stay.

Eventually, Phoenix won the debate after bringing out three powerful points that completely discarded Febia's ranting. Febia lost but Moonlight was given a strict rule to follow. One, the rowl must never come in contact with Febia and from that day onward, Moonlight tried his best to keep to that rule.

One day, on a happy morning. Moonlight woke up with a strange sense of threat. He could feel shivers in his bones as he lazily went down for breakfast.

He entered the dining, wearing a black sweater and foamy black trousers. He sat on one of the seats, laid his head on the round table and fell asleep.

The dining and kitchen were together, meaning one could see who was at the kitchen from the dining room. In this case, he could see Phoenix and Febia preparing their breakfast. Though, Febia appeared to just be helping out while Phoenix did the cooking.

Febia joked from the kitchen, "Don't you guys get tired."

Phoenix handed her a dished plate and Febia carried it to the table.

"We Adna's have a perfect temperature. Even if we were to wear the most heat absorbent material in the sun; we still would not sweat."

"Heh, you guys sure are lucky."

Febia returned and Phoenix handed her another plate in which Febia dropped them one by one on the center table. They chatted continuously and repeated the process until the table was full.

"Looks like we did too much," muttered Phoenix.

The aroma of the meal found its way to Moonlight's nose, causing him to wake up.

"But still, someone literally comes by carriage to deliver ingredients." Febia said, setting up the dish accurately.

She cleaned her face and sighed happily at a job well done.

Moonlight inhaled the sweet smell and picked up the cutleries. Specifically, the spoon and fork, however, after a while he threw the spoon and used only the fork.

"Calm down. The food ain't running." Febia said as she took her seat.

Phoenix then chuckled and took her seat.

Moonlight finished his part and stood up to leave. He took a tiny plate filled with a slice of yam and another place with tomato sauce.

Febia watched him and asked, "Are you going to feed it that thing?"

Moonlight stopped and replied with a nod.

"Hrrgh," She dropped her spoon and leaned on the chair. "Are we sure that's the kind of food you should be feeding it?"

"Are you interested in it?" Phoenix asked, pointing a fork towards Febia.

Febia's expression shifted as she tried to escape the question. She scratched the ground by shifting her chair backward. "No. I'm just curious."

"Hmm, I see."

Phoenix stabbed a slice of yam with a fork and swallowed it. "Monsters adapt quickly to their surroundings. Their food diet can change basically anytime, for as long as the surroundings accept it."

Febia listened as Phoenix dropped a bombshell of lore. Moonlight quickly ran back up to feed his pet (hostage) some food.

He jumped atop his bed, resting his head on his hands while staring at the white ceiling. The thought of Cloud crossed his head, but he has lived without him for days. So, that never concerned him.

Moonlight looked to the window. Sunlight reflected on his dull black eyes and skin. He then raised his upper hand and asked himself, "What do I do?"

Phoenix asked him a question, "Are you going to school? "But he did not reply. So, he currently is brainstorming on his answer.

The more he thought, the more he realized the meaning behind her words, 'Heaven and Hell?'

Should he go to school and gain knowledge, learn new things, go on excursions and explore the outside world? This was heaven to him.

Or go to school, meet new people, take part in activities and be surrounded by complete random. This was hell to him.

"What should I do?" He asked himself before hiding his face in his pillow.

Time ran fast and the coming of evening was far approaching. But for Adna's, time ran slowly or rather time never moved at all.

Using his free time, Moonlight unboxed what they brought, arranging them neatly in his wardrobe. He took his time to check the quality, material, color and flexibility.

KNOCK! KNOCK!! KNOCK!!!

Just then he heard a knock. Three knocks specifically and he knew it was Phoenix at once. He quickly stood up and this time actually opened the door for her.

Phoenix gasped in shock as Moonlight, her son, welcomed her into his room. But she narrowed her eyes and sighed.

"Moonlight please, take a seat."

Moonlight tilted his head, puzzled. He sat on his bed while his eyes watched Phoenix take hers.

As she sat down, the bed formed a tension that he felt also; his veins telling him something big was about to happen. The air suddenly felt cold and he knew this was not like their former interactions.

"Have you thought about your answer?" Phoenix began.

He stayed quiet, humming silently while his eyes looked for where to settle.

"You haven't thought about that yet?" She asked.

He still stayed quiet. His mind dragged out thoughts from the deepest parts. If I go, I will learn new things and see the outside world but will meet new people. If I stay, I will learn nothing but will live peaceful in isolation with my companion Rowl.

This was a grave question. Should he choose heaven: to stay or to hell: to leave. Breathing slowly became a problem as his mouth opened and closed consistently.

Then finally,

"I will think about it."

That's what he replied with.

Phoenix let out a sigh as if she had been relieved of something big. She told him, 'Don't worry. I'll wait' and immediately left.

Moonlight ran to the door, checked if she had gone far away. When he realized she had, he slammed the door and threw himself on the bed with his face to the ceiling once more.

"What will I do?! If I go, I will…now, I understand."

He said to himself.

Frustrated, he threw his pillow to the ceiling, and it cracked.

"What do I do?" He whispered to the room.

The rowl suddenly climbed his body, coiled itself and went to sleep on him like he was a pillow. Moonlight pets its head. "What a strange thing."

Then he stayed quiet, letting silence settle deeply into the room.

"What is Cloud even doing?"

=====

On a sunny day, a boy striking a button sleeved shirt, black trousers and a shoe that was polished to greatness. The boy whistled, dragging some luggage to the front of a gate.

"My journey begins now."

The gate opened for him and he strolled right in. Sunlight passed through his dark skin and rested on his long black hair.

"Let's see what fantasy this world will show me."
