Lloyd let out a sigh while shaking his head, observing how the last ashes dissolved on the table.
His gesture didn't convey surprise, but a contained disappointment, almost bored, as if he had expected something more from that reaction.
"Well..." he murmured, shifting his gaze from the charred remains to Bernard. "I thought seeing those documents would make you feel remorse or something like that... even if just for an instant."
Bernard raised an eyebrow, looking at him with a mixture of incredulity and disdain. The corner of his lips tensed in a slight grimace before letting out a small exhalation through his nose.
Remorse.
The word seemed alien to him in that context.
He straightened his back calmly, adjusting his sleeve with an automatic gesture while ordering his thoughts.
He didn't see those actions as "evil." Quite the contrary, he saw himself as a savior.
