Chapter 23 - Chapter 22: Court

Dragon Empire,

Teger Ugar and Supreme Minister Frogem were sitting comfortably in their spacecraft.

They were leaving the capital planet.

Meanwhile, civilians were dying in the war.

[Frogem]: Seeing them die is kind of frustrating. It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to usurp an Empire… the very Empire we stole from Girishika.

[Teger]: You are right, sir. However, we can simply build it again after eliminating Germio. We still have our trump card—the Sleeping Deity. We can end the war whenever we wish.

Frogem was drinking wine in his glass.

The Dragoling Minister sat on the couch like a ruler, with a woman on his lap.

Teger sat on the couch in front of him, smoking.

[Frogem]: I want to summon the Sleeping Deity right now.

[Teger]: Aren't you interested in watching more deaths and agony below?

[Frogem]: No. Their screams… those ridiculous faces… they disgust me. I would rather erase the enemy and claim the praise for myself. Summon the Deity. Now.

[Teger]: Hoho… as you wish, sir.

Teger drew a magic circle.

It was summoning magic… or perhaps sorcery.

Ancient characters were inscribed—some in Sanskrit, others in an unknown language.

Frogem watched with amusement, while the woman on his lap grew tense.

Gia…

The woman—his slave.

Serving him only to repay her debts… and to keep her family safe from the war.

She looked mortified.

This spell… it felt less like summoning, and more like a curse that would haunt the Empire forever.

Among all the symbols, one word stood out the most—

ASURA.

[Teger]: It is done, sir. The circle has been constructed. The rules were simple enough.

[Frogem]: Well done, Teger. Now summon the Deity.

Teger glanced back at Frogem, who was completely drunk and barely in his senses.

Teger's eyes… filled with something darker.

Betrayal.

[Teger]: Sir… the circle demands a sacrifice.

Frogem frowned.

Teger slowly approached him, step by step.

[Teger]: A body is required… to bridge the realms. Our "Sleeping Deity" does not reside here. I trust you won't object to a small sacrifice.

[Frogem]: Why would I? Throw this woman into the circle.

Gia's heart pounded violently.

She already knew.

[Teger]: You misunderstand, sir.

You… are the sacrifice.

Before Frogem could react, Teger grabbed him and threw his drunken body into the circle.

[Frogem]: AHHHH—!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! YOU TRAITOR—!!!

His body began to burn rapidly.

[Teger]: A small price, I would say. Our alliance ends here, Frogem. And do not call me a betrayer…You fed on the blood of your people just as I did.

We are equals.

Frogem burned to ash.

Even the ashes scattered into nothing.

The circle began to glow red.

Its rings spun in different directions.

Sanskrit characters began forming across the floor.

And then—

A single word emerged.

ASURA.

Teger turned toward Gia.

She was trembling.

[Gia]: Please… don't kill me… I have a younger brother… an old mother… I need to take care of them… please…

Teger lunged toward her, his face twisted.

[Teger]: Why the rush, sweetheart? Your family will remain safe… as long as you cooperate.

He forced her down.

[Teger]: Why resist? Weren't you born for this? Pain… submission… slavery…

The strong rule the weak. That is the natural order.

Suddenly—

A chill ran down his spine.

The atmosphere… shifted.

Detached.

Heavy.

Even Gia felt it.

An overwhelming power.

Rage.

It felt as if that rage alone could swallow an entire planet.

No—far beyond that.

Something that should not exist.

Perhaps…

A god.

Teger turned toward the circle.

At that moment, Gia slipped free from his grasp.

The circle was gone.

In its place—

A throne.

Black. Covered in ash.

Massive.

Too massive to fit inside the spacecraft.

Yet somehow… the spacecraft itself seemed larger now.

No—

The space had been altered.

Sorcery.

A towering knight stood beside the throne.

Large… even for a Dragoling.

Teger laughed loudly.

[Teger]: Finally… the Sleeping Deity has arrived. Your power is overwhelming, my lord. I can feel it—you could destroy anything by mere presence. I am your loyal follower, the one who summoned you. Please accept my req—

[Knight]: How dare you.

Teger froze.

[Knight]: To mistake someone as lowly as me for my Lord…Have you lost all sense, creature?

At that moment—

Teger realized.

He had unleashed something far worse than death.

If a being like this knight could erase the entire Dragon Empire…

And he was not the Deity…

Then what was?

Ash began gathering upon the throne.

It took form.

A man.

Calm. Smiling.

Young in appearance… yet ancient beyond measure.

[Kae]: My, my… it seems we have arrived somewhere troublesome once again.Kara… restrain your rage.

Creatures of this era are far too fragile. They will not endure it.

[Kara]: My deepest apologies, my lord.

Teger trembled.

The man had no overwhelming aura…

Yet his very presence demanded submission.

[Teger]: Wh… who are you…?

[Kara]: Kneel, wretch. You stand before the Asura Community Ruler…Lord Kae.

Teger collapsed to his knees instantly.

Crying. Begging.

War meant nothing now.

Only survival.

[Teger]: M-my lord… perhaps we can reach a mutually beneficial arrangement—

Kae's voice remained calm.

Unmoved.

[Teger]: A war has broken out in the Dragon Empire. Germio—the culprit—is a madman. A destroyer. He seeks to corrupt your domain. I summoned your highness to eliminate him… and restore peace to the world.

Kae smiled.

[Kae]: A distortion of truth… how predictable.

Very well.

Courtroom.

The world shifted instantly.

Darkness gave way to a courtroom.

Teger stood in the dock.

Gia was in the witness box.

[Teger]: What is this?! What have you done?!

You stand accused of murder… exploitation… false judgment… suppression of justice… trafficking… corruption… and crimes beyond count.

You are under trial.

[Teger]: Lies!! My lord, please—

Before he could continue—

Kara sliced his tongue.

[Kae]: Silence is often more fitting than falsehoods. You will speak when permitted.Judgment… rests with me.

Kae turned toward Gia.

[Kae]: Speak freely, child.

No harm shall come to those you protect.

Gia trembled.

Her family…

Her brother… her mother…

Fear consumed her.

Then—

A hand rested gently on her head.

[Kara]: Fear not.My lord delivers justice without fail.

Gia looked at Kae.

He nodded.

Still smiling.

[Gia]: …It's true.

She looked at Teger.

Broken. Bleeding.

Terrified.

Tears streamed down her face.

But this time—

There was rage.

[Gia]: It's all true!!! He did everything! He killed people… betrayed everyone… corrupted everything! He killed my father… my brother… just because they refused to give me to him!

He is a monster!!!

Teger tried to look at Kae—

But Kara blinded him instantly.

[Kara]: You dare raise your gaze toward my lord?

Kae struck the desk lightly three times.

[Kae]: Then let us proceed…

To sentencing.

His smile remained unchanged.

To Teger—

It was terror itself.

To Gia—

It felt like salvation.
