Cellie's POV
Diana looked at my shivering form and the duffel over my shoulder and then at my face and then back at the duffel, and her expression moved through three things in approximately two seconds before she stepped back from her apartment door and let me in without asking a single question.
I was inside before the relief of the warmth hit me.
"What's going on?" she said. "Why are you here? Is that mascara on your face? Did you cry?"
"Could I have a glass of water first?" I said. "I'm genuinely very thirsty."
She looked at me for a moment with the specific expression of someone deciding whether the water was the right call or whether she needed to upgrade immediately. Then she said: "Give me a second," and disappeared into her kitchen.
