Gavin reacted instantly, turning around and lifting his hand, nearly throwing a punch before—
"Jesus Christ!" Jace hissed. "It's me!"
Gavin stopped his fists midway, before dropping them on seeing who it was, exhaling sharply.
"Wrong timing to sneak up on me, dude." His voice resonated.
"I didn't sneak up on you, asshole! I freaking called your name twice from across!" He threw his hands in demonstration, pointing to the corridor where he had been standing.
The underboss clenched his jaw slightly as he sized up the man before him.
Jace looked terrible, even worse than the last time Gavin had seen him when he came visiting his hospital ward with Lucrezia.
Dishevelled wasn't even the right way to term it. He looked sleep-deprived and annoyed beyond reason.
"You look like hell," Gavin muttered.
"Says the man dressed like hospital housekeeping." Jace fired back, glaring at him.
