No wonder he kept bouncing around. It was the latest model, of course I'm grateful. But I think this is too much for a normal employee… oh, right.
"This is too much, but I hope you won't expect something from me."
I smiled while making the sarcastic comment. David flinched. His eyes darted away from mine and he was sweating profusely.
Both the guys in the hazmat suits suddenly backed away from the door. They sensed a presence coming towards this room.
Bang.
The door flew open.
A shout emerged from the woman on the other side of the door.
"Executive David!"
A voice most familiar to both David and me.
"The absolute nerve to dash just as the meeting concluded!! I swear, you'll be the end of me!!"
"Gah. Madam, how did you find me?"
David feigned innocence. Smiling widely at the furious Vivienne.
Both of them played cat and mouse around the room, trashing the stuff and breaking the furniture.
"Both of you. Leave this instant."
I deepened my voice in utter irritation. Both froze in their tracks. The hazmat suit was gone.
Two pairs of hands grabbed my neck, face, and arm. Pinning me on the ground, my arms were bent behind me, my face planted on the ground.
"Wha—what are you doing?!"
That's when I saw it.
My shadow was climbing the wall.
Black roots branched out from it, writhing silently.
The hazmat suits weren't restraining me.
But the malice inside me.
