The bright white fluorescent lighting of the bathroom illuminated Misty's face, she stared into the sink with her sharp hazel eyed gaze. Her hands rested softly on the hard porcelain.
'What the hell was that?'
'I couldn't see his desire, I couldn't see any emotions in that man at all'
'Was there an energy dampener in the room?'
Lifting her head she caught a reflection of herself, her eyes were glowing bright pink in her reflection.
'Fuck!'
'I need to calm down before my condition get worse, I wouldn't want to lose control here, Solonar still needs me' She sighed, wherever she was stressed reminding herself of what's important to her usually calmed her down.
This was the first time she had ever experienced something like this in another human.
'What if he wasn't human?', the fog of a particular memory clouded her mind.
She could still feel her power so she was sure that there wasn't any dampener nearby.
Suddenly a strange thought entered her mind
"Could he be one of those white eyed bastards?"
"If he was then I'll definitely have to kill him"
Her hand gripped the sink with that thought, the side of the basin seemed to be just a slight increment of pressure away from breaking under her grip.
'No, think about this rationally, the chances of him being one of them are almost zero, I'm also not in the best shape to fight'
"If I end up destroying the club I'd probably be discovered by them" she said aloud with a sigh.
Turning on the faucet, she splashed water on her face. Another attempt to ease her nerves.
'if I destroy this place and get discovered then they might discover Solonar's secret as well'
*BOOM!!*
The bathroom wall rumbled and vibrated, her subsequent thoughts rudely interrupted by the loud sound of an explosion.
"shit!" Misty said, running outside trying scout the situation.
Within the smoke she could see people running in panic trying to flee, something else also caught her eye; a fiery glow that resembled an arm, a heavy gust of wind passed the figure hidden in the smoke …
It was Chekov.
He was in full battle mode, his arm was on fire, his skin tinted a slight reddish hue, a low pounding hum also emitted from his body.
"He's a rage empath" Misty muttered to herself under her breath.
Just then her eyes caught a glimpse of something moving above her, It was camouflaging itself or invisible to her because she struggled to see and keep track of it.
Misty's eyes began to glow dimly with a soft pink hue, unlike the blazing shine that happened in the bathroom, she could finally see something moving fast along the walls.
Looking up, she and the creature locked eyes, she could feel, see, and influence its desire now that she had partially activated her emocore.
It was a giant reptilian creature, its scales seemed to shimmer, change color and bend the light around it making itself near invisible, especially in the low light of the club.
'You poor creature just trying to survive, you shouldn't have come here today'
She could feel that what ever that thing was it was just trying to survive, its strongest desire was to protect itself.
*Badum badum badum badum*
She could hear the low pounding hum that was Chekov's heart and essence working together to enhance his body slowly increasing in frequency.
'He might be a level 4 empath', Misty felt a drop of cold sweat roll down her back, 'there's no way I could have face him with my current state'
'not without risking getting caught here at least'
Fighting directly wasn't an option and she didn't need to either.
She enhanced the desire of the creature to attack and hurried to leave the scene lest she gets caught here.
She could feel the air in the space shift as the creature moved to re engage its battle with the rage empath.
*SHRIIIIIEKK*
The creature let out an ear piercing battle cry.
This was Misty's sign to fade into obscurity and exit the soon-to-be battlefield.
She pushed through to people of the middle city to get to the door where she found James injured with glass sticking out of his shoulder but he was unfazed.
"James"
"James!"
"JAMES!"
She finally shouted loud enough to catch his attention over the sea of noise caused by the people escaping.
"What happened?, I came out of the bathroom and there was this loud sound, and people were running everywhere, what's going on??", she said talking quickly and panicked.
Misty feigned ignorance to the whole thing, to almost everyone she was Candace the dancer, she couldn't act calm in these kind of situations and break the cover of her fake identity.
It worked remarkably well damn near every time, after all who would suspect their 10 year colleague of hiding something?
"That entitled prick apparently attacked someone inside an they turned out to be a bloody shape shifter" James said, with a sigh.
"What?!" Misty asked with genuine shock in her tone.
"yeah, I suggest you make your way home, I need to head back inside and make sure nobody got stomped to death in there, and I need to call city patrol in case anyone gets corrupted and loses control, there's no way we're continuing business tonight", he said pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration.
He noticed Candace's gaze on his injured shoulder and out of reflex glanced at it.
'I fucking hate my job'
He thought to himself and pushed through the crowd to get back inside without explaining his injury.
Misty stood there amidst the chaos for a few seconds, the sounds from the battle inside could still be heard, although they were much fainter now.
"I wonder who the shape shifter was?" she began muttering to herself.
"A level 4 empath…. he's definitely a hunter that got tipped off about a shape shifter, but why didn't he have any desire?"
"Maybe some new tech from …."
*Honk Honk*
"Hey miss, you going anywhere tonight?" a random hover-taxi driver's voice interrupted her thoughts as he leaned over the front passenger side to talk to her.
"Oh thank you, I was just spacing out a little bit", she said, flashing a polite smile at the driver she opened the back door on the left side and got in.
"Take me to the outer city please"
"That'll be 10 credits", the taxi driver said extending his rectangular payment terminal with 10 clearly displayed on the screen.
"…"
"wasn't it 5 credits this morning?"
"yeah but there's been an incident in the area so it's a bit more dangerous for us taxi drivers, I hope you understand" he said in a polite voice.
Misty stretched her arm and paid the fee with her wrist band without saying a word.
"Thanks for understanding" the same polite tone was now sounding like mockery especially when she checked the new balance on her band.
'shit I forgot to collect tonight's pay', now she was the one pinching the bridge of her nose in frustration.
"Is there a problem ma'am? "
"just fucking drive" Misty said the frustration evident in her tone.
