Chapter 310 - Chapter 30: The Official Start of a Military Career

The garrisons of the four major legions within the Empire were not mere military tents, but complete structures similar to cities, or rather, miniature cities built to accommodate fifty thousand troops. Each legion was backed by a large city as a support and guarantee, responsible for maintaining the garrison buildings and logistics, and all fifty thousand soldiers in the legion were combat personnel.

Such a satellite-like small city, which was actually the garrison of Tohsaka Rin's legion, was located three hundred li further north from Wuxi City, near the Forest of Dangerous Species. At this moment, Tohsaka Rin and the City Lord of Wuxi City stood together on the head of the Wind God Winged Dragon, looking down at this type of legion city.

"...The general situation is as I've described. Does General Rin Tohsaka have any other questions?"

The City Lord of Wuxi City briefly explained the current situation of the Seventh Legion to Tohsaka Rin, who fell into a moment of contemplation before saying:

"So, out of the remaining 4,783 people, fewer than a thousand want to continue serving."

"That's right. They are all still in this camp because they cannot leave without the Legion Commander's permission."

"Understood. Thank you, City Lord, for looking after my soldiers. It won't be long before new recruits are supplemented, and there will be many more places where I'll trouble the City Lord then."

"It's my duty, my duty."

After taking the Wind God Winged Dragon to send the City Lord of Wuxi City back to the city, Tohsaka Rin returned to the current Seventh Legion garrison. She leaped directly from the dragon's head, air-dropping into the central legion command post.

"There's still a lot of work to do... Bang!"

Tohsaka Rin expressionlessly stamped her personal seal on the legion retirement application forms. This was Tohsaka Rin's legion seal as Legion Commander, signifying her approval of the retirement applications of the soldiers requesting to retire.

Tohsaka Rin casually handed the approved documents to Zhi Feng beside her. Zhi Feng looked at Tohsaka Rin with some difficulty and said:

"Big Sister, are we really letting all these veterans with war experience retire?"

It was already late at night. During non-formal periods, Zhi Feng would still call Tohsaka Rin "Big Sister," even though she was actually much older than Tohsaka Rin.

In a formal work setting, Zhi Feng would never voice any opinions on Tohsaka Rin's work decisions; she would only execute them without a word.

"It's useless. Those who survive a defeat are either the most afraid of death or the least afraid of death. These people applying for retirement have already developed a fear of the battlefield. Keeping them would only spread this fear to the new recruits. Now, I pray not for them to stay, but for all the cowardly, trashy cowards to retire and leave."

Zhi Feng couldn't help but hit her head with the document and say:

"As expected of Big Sister, her thoughts are always different from ordinary people. But after the new recruits arrive, how will they be managed and trained? After all, even with the officers, there are less than 2,000 people."

Tohsaka Rin's pen paused as she reviewed the documents. She rested her delicate chin on her hand, pondering for a moment before asking Zhi Feng,

"How long until the new recruits arrive?"

Zhi Feng flipped through the notebook in her hand and replied,

"According to previous records, there's still one month. After that, the Empire will gradually fill our personnel shortage."

"Soga."

Tohsaka Rin made the final stroke on the document with her pen, then picked up a blank sheet of letter paper from beside her desk. She wrote a letter furiously and handed it to Zhi Feng after a short while.

"Tomorrow, take this letter along with the list of retired personnel to the Lord of Wuxi City. This current camp can no longer meet our needs; I need a major overhaul!"

"Yes! Understood, Great General."

...One month later...

Tohsaka Rin stood atop the head of a rearing Wind God Winged Dragon, which, excluding its tail, was nearly three hundred meters above the ground. Before her was a formation of fifty thousand troops, neatly assembled on the military drill ground.

As the saying goes: when people number in the tens of thousands, they are boundless. A gathering of fifty thousand people indeed possessed a magnificent aura; in terms of numbers alone, it was no less than the Army of the King of Conquerors.

Tohsaka Rin stood on the dragon's head, her immense prestige subtly suppressing the entire field with her presence alone. Tohsaka Rin adjusted her voice and inner breath, then her voice was able to reach the eardrums of every single soldier:

"I don't want to talk too much nonsense. Those of you who have come here should have heard of me. I am Tohsaka Rin, who just defeated the entire Imperial Military Academy to become a Great General, and my first mission is to lead you bunch of trash."

Tohsaka Rin's words were practically inciting rebellion, but after a month of interaction, the thousand veterans and officers standing at the foot of the Wind God Winged Dragon had all grown accustomed to it.

"I will not welcome you, because you are not qualified. Without a doubt, among everyone present, I am the most unfortunate one. I am truly pathetic to have to become the Legion Commander of you bunch of trash. You should know, right? Coming to this legion means you get triple the military pay and several times more supplies than other legions. To be frank, I demanded all of that from the military department, but that is for my true subordinates, not for you bunch of trash."

After a brief pause, Tohsaka Rin continued:

"Don't think that just because you walk through this gate, you are my soldiers. I don't need shapeless dregs. Although they might be cannon fodder in other legions, there is no such position in my unit. First, congratulations on stepping into hell. Here, you will be forged and tempered like iron in a smelting furnace. Only those who can pass my assessment and become usable material can remain here. As for the rest, if you're lucky enough to keep all your limbs intact, perhaps you can go be cannon fodder in other legions. If you're physically disabled, I'll just tell you to roll as far away as possible."

Finally, Tohsaka Rin impatiently turned and waved her hand at her troops, appearing too lazy to say more and turning to leave.

"Saying more is just nonsense anyway. After three months, I estimate less than one-tenth of you will still be able to stand before me. I've truly been too generous talking so much to irrelevant people. Of course, I welcome anyone who is unconvinced to come find me. If you're unconvinced, you can report to the central command center. Whether it's rebellion or causing trouble, whether it's one or two, or thousands, even if all of you revolt, it doesn't matter. As long as you're prepared to pay the price, you can do anything you want. I've arranged for people to specially build a prison on the north side of the camp, large enough to hold twice your total number. How about it? Thank me for my generosity."

Subsequently, Tohsaka Rin's figure flashed and disappeared from the dragon's head, hundreds of meters high.
