Chapter 121 - Zael 2.0

The change didn't fade.

It didn't weaken.

It didn't even fluctuate.

It simply… remained.

Zael—no, whatever was standing in his place—took another step.

The mist parted.

Not forcefully.

Not violently.

It just… moved out of the way.

Like it understood.

Like it recognized something it shouldn't.

Another wave of creatures rushed in.

Faster this time.

More of them.

Drawn by instinct.

By the trial.

By the need to eliminate what didn't belong.

They never reached him.

The pressure around him didn't expand.

Didn't lash out.

It just existed.

And anything that entered it—

Collapsed.

Not torn apart.

Not destroyed.

Just… invalidated.

The third phase continued.

But it no longer felt like a trial.

It felt like a formality.

The pulses of primordial resonance that had nearly broken him before—

Now passed through him without resistance.

Without strain.

Without meaning.

[Primordial Frequency: Fully Integrated]

There was no reaction.

No visible acknowledgment.

He simply stood there.

Still.

Unbothered.

As if that result had always been inevitable.

The island shifted again.

The ruined structure in the distance trembled slightly—

Then stilled.

The voice returned.

For the first time—

There was a pause before it spoke.

"Phase Three… complete."

Even the system hesitated.

Like it didn't fully recognize what had just happened.

Then—

"Phase Four initiated."

The environment changed.

The mist thickened—

But not around him.

Around everything else.

The ground fractured.

The blood sea rose slightly at the edges of the island.

Shapes began to form—

Larger.

Denser.

More complete than the previous ones.

Entities that weren't just fragments.

But echoes of something that had once been whole.

They emerged slowly.

Towering.

Distorted.

Carrying traces of something ancient—

Something that had fought and fallen in this place long before Zael ever arrived.

They looked at him.

And for a moment—

They hesitated.

Not fear.

Not awareness.

Something deeper.

Then—

They attacked.

All at once.

The ground split.

Space warped.

The air itself twisted under the force of their combined assault.

He didn't move.

Didn't dodge.

Didn't defend.

The attacks reached him—

And ceased to exist.

Not blocked.

Not resisted.

Simply removed from relevance.

Like they had never been allowed to happen.

He tilted his head slightly.

The void in his eyes shifting—

Focusing.

Then—

He stepped forward.

Just one step.

The nearest entity—

Collapsed instantly.

Its form compressing into nothing under a pressure it couldn't comprehend.

Another step.

Another one fell.

Then another.

No effort.

No technique.

No skill.

Just—

Overwhelming existence.

The fourth phase ended faster than it began.

The last of the entities tried to retreat—

It didn't make it far.

The space around it folded—

And it was gone.

Silence returned to the island.

Complete.

Absolute.

Then—

He stopped.

Mid-step.

Slowly—

His head turned.

Not toward the island.

Not toward the structure.

But—

Up.

Into the mist.

Into something no normal perception could reach.

And he looked—

Directly at it.

The remnant froze.

Completely.

For the first time since the trial began—

He felt something he hadn't felt in a long time.

Not fear.

But exposure.

"…That's not possible."

His form flickered slightly.

Instinctively.

Even though there was nowhere to go.

Nothing to hide behind.

Because that gaze—

It wasn't searching.

It had already found him.

"…He shouldn't be able to see me."

A pause.

Then quieter.

"…Not like this."

Back on the island—

That arrogant smirk returned.

Slight.

Knowing.

"…"

He didn't speak at first.

Just looked.

Like he was confirming something.

Then—

He spoke.

"I know you have questions."

His voice was calm.

Controlled.

Completely different from before.

"But now isn't the time."

The remnant didn't respond.

Couldn't.

Not because he was unable—

But because he was trying to understand what he was looking at.

"I only came out," the figure continued, "because his life was in danger."

A small pause.

Then—

A faint shift in tone.

Not softer.

Just… deeper.

"He's still naive."

A slight tilt of the head.

"Doesn't know who he is."

Another pause.

"Or what he's meant to become."

The remnant's eyes narrowed slightly.

"…You're not Zael."

The smirk didn't fade.

It deepened.

"Of course I am."

A beat.

"Just not the version you've been watching."

Silence followed.

Heavy.

Then—

The figure's gaze sharpened slightly.

Studying the remnant now.

"…Although."

A small pause.

"…I am curious."

The remnant stilled.

"That form you're using…"

The void in his eyes shifted.

Observing.

Analyzing.

"…A remnant."

A step forward.

Not physically toward him—

But the pressure carried anyway.

Reaching.

Touching.

Understanding.

"And yet…"

A faint tilt of the head.

"…you've remained intact."

The remnant didn't move.

Didn't respond.

But his attention sharpened completely.

The figure continued.

"…In the blood mist of a divinity battlefield."

A pause.

Then—

Quiet.

Curious.

"…without being corrupted."

Silence stretched between them.

Not tense.

Not hostile.

But layered.

Like two things that shouldn't be aware of each other—

Now were.

The remnant exhaled slowly.

"…You're not supposed to exist like this."

A faint smile answered him.

"Neither is he."

A pause.

Then—

The figure's gaze shifted slightly.

Returning to the island.

To the structure.

To the trial.

"…But that's a conversation for later."

Another step.

The pressure receded slightly.

Not gone.

Just… withdrawn.

"For now—"

A faint glance back.

"—watch closely."

The smirk returned.

Sharper this time.

"Because this is the only time you'll get to see this version of him."
